2014-Pre-conference workshop-UKM
UNIT SUMBER HAIWAN MAKMAL (LARU)
FAKULTI PERUBATAN
UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA
Kolej Tun Syed Nasir
Jalan Temerloh

Introduction
Introduction
Intravenous route is often used for anesthesia of small and large
animals, inoculation of pharmaceutical products, compound,
nanoparticles and infectious agents to animals. It is important for one to
master the skill of administering drugs to rodents (mice and rats) through
intravenous route since these animals are widely used as test subjects
in many experiments. In addition, if one is able to apply the technique
accurately, the number of animals used per group can be reduced. Data
derived from the experiment is also reproducible and convincing.
Although various methods and techniques have been introduced for
administration of substance through intravenous route, however; no
methods are perfect.
This workshop is organized by LARU & LASAM, and has been
conducted by Laboratory Animal Resource Unit, Faculty of Medicine,
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for almost 10 years. The course has
benefited many participants from local higher institutions in Malaysia. The
workshop is targeted for young scientists, researchers, and students
currently conducting research projects using animals. The workshop is
limited to 50 participants. This two-day workshop covers theory and
practical aspects of intravenous route administration of anesthetic drugs
on mouse, rat and rabbits. It is a must for the participant to learn and
master the technique before embarking on any animal experimentation.
Course Objective
To obtain basic knowledge and skill of inoculation and anesthesia in
