February 8, 2015 - Christ the King Catholic Church
FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FEBRUARY 8, 2015
From Fr. John Kim
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ:
On the fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Church celebrates World Marriage Sunday, recognizing the fundamental importance of marriage and the family to the life
of Christianity. In the very first part of the Book of Genesis, the scripture describes the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God (Gen
1:27), and continues that marriage was instituted in Paradise when man was in
innocence (Gen 2:18-24). From here, we can deduce that the very nature of Marriage is indeed holy, sacred and communal through oneness as God shows us by
His very own nature – the Holy Trinity, One God and Three Persons.
But the very nature of marriage – the communion of persons – also implies the self-sacrifice of one another. Imagine
person “A” has grown up in a different family tradition, in a town with a different type of family, large or small. Then
person “A” meets another person “B” who has grown up with a different background, and yet they become one and
form the communion of persons, and both persons should learn how to lose and accept each one, both the good and
the bad. No wonder marriage is the training ground, the discipline, and the school for growing toward that communion. We know that this is a key element for a successful marriage yet how changing it can be.
In honor of National Marriage Week, the week of February 7 -14, Christ the King parish would like to recognize and
congratulate all the couples who celebrate a five-year increment anniversary (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20 years, etc.) on the
following weekend, February 14 and 15. Please kindly contact Mrs. Sophia Gomes at 254-220-9736 or [email protected] by Tuesday, Feb 10th. You can also contact our church office.
There are a few changes among our parish staff. Due to personal reasons, Mrs. Becky
Beechem and Mrs. Manuela Challis, parish secretaries, along with Mrs. Donna Leune, publication specialist, have resigned in December 2014. Their dedication and love for our parish
was truly reflected on the parish office, and I greatly appreciate their effort in the past.
Continuing their legacy, we have new staff on board. Ms. Nora Collazo will be a new full-time
secretary to assist me in any administrative tasks while responding and transferring any call
to the office, along with Mrs. Elida Castro, Sacraments Coordinator, and Mrs. Krista Kaulfus,
Communication Coordinator. Every sacrament requires certain preparatory works, and Mrs.
Castro will work for coordinating Infant Baptism, Marriage preparation and its paper work,
funerals and Quinceañera. Mrs. Kaulfus will organize the bulletin, events and news on the
church website, our future mobile app and any inter-parish and local community communication. Please welcome them warmly and take some time to get to know them.
