Tongue Cleansing: Bacteria build-up on the tongue
is a proven major cause of bad breath and
acts as a reservoir of bacteria
for forming new plaque
on clean teeth. Tongue
cleaners are an effective way of
removing these bacterial deposits.
Used daily, after tooth cleaning, they can
prevent bad breath and restore taste.
Diet: To be healthy, the mouth like the
rest of our body needs a balanced
diet. The frequent consumption of
sugar containing food, drinks and
confectionery can lead to tooth
decay. Regular consumption
of acidic drinks (such as fruit
juice and fizzy drinks) can
cause tooth erosion and
should be limited to meal
times wherever possible. Water and milk are safe choices
for in-between meals.

If you cannot brush right after eating, a piece of sugar-free
chewing gum is a good substitute. That’s because chewing
gum increases your saliva, which is the mouth’s built-in
defence system against the effects of acids on the teeth and
the development of plaque .

A guide to good oral hygiene
Thoroughly brush all tooth surfaces and gum margins twice
a day with a fluoridated toothpaste. A gentle scrub technique
with a small soft-to-medium texture TePe toothbrush should
be used. Powered toothbrushes are popular and can be just
as effective as manual brushes but require a slightly different
brushing technique. Your dental professional will be able to
advise you how to use a powered toothbrush correctly.
Smoking: Staining, bad breath and increased risk of gum
disease are all associated with smoking. Tobacco, whether
smoked or chewed, renders the gums less able to
defend themselves, wound healing is delayed and
consequently gum disease is often worse in smokers.
The incidence of oral cancer is increasing and is linked
with smoking and alcohol consumption. Giving
up smoking can be extremely difficult, ask
your dental professional for advice.

the easy way
– a guide to interdental cleaning
TePe Interdental Brushes, the easy and
effective way to clean between your teeth
What is interdental cleaning?
Interdental cleaning is the removal of plaque and impacted food
from between the teeth, which your normal toothbrush cannot
reach. This is where a lot of dental disease starts. Floss and
interdental brushes are both good ways of removing plaque,
although many people find interdental brushes easier to use.
Whichever method is chosen, interdental cleaning should be
carried out at least once daily. TePe Interdental Brushes are
the most recommended brand by dental professionals and are
available in 9 colour-coded sizes.
How do I know which size
TePe to use?
Ideally, you should consult a dental professional. Brushes
should never be forced into a space but the bristles need to
make contact with the teeth and the gums in order to remove
plaque. Generally, the spaces between the teeth at the front of
the mouth are smaller than those at the back. You may need
to use more than one brush size.
Are TePe Interdental Brushes safe to
use on dental appliances, crowns,
bridges and implants?
How to use TePe
Interdental Brushes
Front of mouth: Insert the brush
into the space between teeth at
gum level, turning slightly (diagram
1). This technique aids access and
prolongs the life of the brush. Once
inserted, gently move the brush
backwards and forwards a few
times to remove plaque and debris
(diagram 2).
Back of mouth: The new TePe
Angle™ brush, with its long handle
and pre-angled head, is ideal for
cleaning difficult-to-reach areas
such as between the teeth at the
back of the mouth.
Brush care: Always rinse
brush in clean water during
and after use.
Do I stop using the TePe
Interdental Brushes if my
gums bleed?
How long do TePe Interdental
Brushes last?
No. If your gums bleed on
brushing, then you probably have
gum disease (gingivitis).
TePe Original Interdental Brushes are
available in 9 colour-coded sizes.

The TePe Angle can be used to
clean from both the tongue and
cheek sides. (diagrams 3 & 4).
The wires used in TePe Interdental Brushes are
plastic coated and safe to use.
We recommend you change the brush every
week or when the bristles become worn
or wires become buckled or distorted.
Undue force and bending at severe
angles will lead to damage of the wire.

range of sizes. The chart below details sizes available, pink
being the smallest size and black the largest. Please seek
the advice of your dental professional to establish the correct

Diseased gums can bleed very easily. Regular interdental
cleaning will result in healthier gums. If bleeding persists,
contact your dental professional.
