AMSIS Tutorial – Petroleum Fisheries overlay
AMSIS Application Quick Tutorial
This is a short tutorial created by the Australian Fisheries Management
Authority to demonstrate how to overlay petroleum titles under fisheries
layers. It will also show how to interrogate a petroleum and fisheries location
on the map using the ‘legal interest’ tool.
Layering Information
1) Load the AMSIS application (http://www.ga.gov.au/imfamsis2/?accept_agreement=on) in an internet browser.
2) Select the ‘petroleum’ theme. All themes have all the layers; the
petroleum theme makes the most sense.
3) Click on the ‘layers’ tab
4) Open the ‘petroleum’ layer group and click the empty white square.
This turns off all the layers in the group.

5) Click the empty white square on the ‘other themes’ layer group. This
turns off all the layers in the group.
6) Click on the ‘petroleum titles’ layer.
2
7) Open the ‘fisheries’ layer group and click the double tick white square.
8) Zoom into a location that has petroleum titles and see the resulting
map:

Legal interest tool: petroleum and fisheries
1) To check the petroleum interests, use the ‘legal interests’ tool. Choose
the radio button petroleum layer group; note that the layers that will be
searched are on the right-hand side. Select a point on the map that has
a petroleum title or key in coordinates, then click ‘search interests’.
2) Open the ‘petroleum titles’ result tab to see the results.
5
3) If you want to detect the fisheries areas under the location, click
‘search again’ and select the radio button for either Commonwealth
fisheries or state fisheries. When you select ‘search again’, the
application remembers the latitude/longitude location you had
previously selected. After selecting the next layer group (either
Commonwealth fisheries or state fisheries), click ‘search interests’.
6
4) Note that Commonwealth fisheries has many layers to search so the
query may take some time. The results will display a list of fisheries.
