Customer Safety and Honda Recalls
Dear Distributor Dealer Principal,
It is your ongoing obligation under Federal Law that each new Honda powered product subject
to a safety recall must be fully repaired prior to its retail sale. This is critical to ensure customer
safety and to protect the reputation of, and goodwill toward the Honda brand, Honda powered
products, and trademarks. Failure to repair units affected by safety recalls prior to retail sale is
a violation of federal law, and carries the potential for fines up to $100,000 per violation and
up to $15 million for repeated violations.
Dealer Actions and Requirements:
• Review this information and the enclosed service bulletin with all your Sales and Service
personnel.
• Instruct all relevant staff how to use the distributor’s internet site to check for recall or
product update campaigns prior to a retail sale transaction or unit delivery.
• Place the enclosed poster in a prominent position near your cashier area.
Actions for Noncompliance:
• Failure to complete all outstanding safety recall repairs prior to delivery to the customer or
placed in service may affect your status as an authorized Distributor Dealer.
• Through your Distributor, AHM may notify CPSC of a dealer’s non-compliance.
If you have any questions, please contact your Honda distributor representative.

SAFETY AND EMISSIONS RECALL NOTICE
MODELS 7262 & 7270 MANTIS TILLER
Dear Mantis® Tiller Customer,
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, and the California Air Resources Board, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is conducting a safety and
voluntary emissions recall of the fuel tank installed on certain Mantis tillers with Honda engines. Our records
indicate that you may own one of these tillers.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has determined that your tiller may be emitting pollutants in
excess of the federal emission standards as defined in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. These
emission standards were established to protect the public health or welfare from air pollution.
What is the problem?
The fuel tank grommet (located on the side of the fuel tank) on affected engines may not have been
properly manufactured and could crack or tear. If this occurs, the grommet could dislodge and result in a
fuel leak.
B WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or seriously
injured if gasoline from a leaking fuel tank is ignited. If the fuel tank is leaking:
• Move the tiller away from any source of ignition.
• Drain the fuel tank into an approved container.
• Do not use the tiller until it has been repaired.
Is your tiller affected?
Affected engines can be identified by the emission label
with date code AA as shown to the right:
If your tiller does not have this date code,
your tiller is not affected by this recall.
