Watershed - is an area of land that water flows over or
under on its way to a stream, river, lake or other body of water.
In Mahoning County there are six (6) major watersheds:
Upper Mahoning River, Meander Creek, Mill Creek, Yellow
Creek, Little Beaver Creek, Lower Mahoning River; each of
them cover several thousand acres. Boardman Park lies
within the Yellow Creek watershed. The land area drained in
the Watershed is 39.4 square miles in Mahoning and
Columbiana Counties, and includes the lakes of Pine, Hamilton,
Burgess and Evans. The Watershed also includes parts of
Boardman, Beaver, Springfield and Unity townships, the
villages of Poland and New Middletown and the city of
Struthers. Lake Evans provides the drinking water for Struthers,
portions of Boardman, Poland, Beaver, Springfield Township,
New Middletown and the cities of Lowellville and Struthers.
McKay’s Run Creek is one of the major streams found in the
watershed and carries water to Yellow Creek in Poland,
which then flows into Lake Hamilton located in Struthers.

Boardman Park consists of 227 acres. 67 acres are
developed for recreational use and the balance,
160 acres, is preserved for natural habitat, which
supports many native species of plants and animals
and is an excellent representative of Ohio’s glaciated Beech/Maple forests and lowland hardwood
forests. It is these two diverse, yet balanced, uses
that truly make Boardman Township Park the
“Green Oasis” of the community.
