Twenty years ago, one year old twins girls were trying to walk-knocking
everything in sight off the table…a two year old watching Barney with
the volume at high decibel- eleven year old Julie desperately begging
for new shoes so she could be like the “cool” girl in her class-8th grade,
Mike, bumming and sulking because he went from the “A” team to the
“B” team in CYO basketball, (his life was over-his words), and freshman
in high school, Jim, who needed me to sit down right now and help him
with his algebra so he could pass his test and stay eligible to be on the
high school basketball team. Life in our house…the neighbor dropped
by with comforting words, something like, “Treasure these times because they go by so fast.” Not sure she loved the look I shot her.
I can remember trying to bring a sense of calmness to my home with the
family rosary. Not sure we said holy, devout rosaries…my recollection
is the dog barking, kids squirming on the coach, and my husband saying
the fastest Hail Mary’s ever recited.
The nest is empty now…more time to reflect-quiet rosaries being prayed
with my husband. But, it’s not better, just different. What I am sure of
is that the time of raising kids, despite the chaos, is a holy time. Amid
all the noise, amid all the end of the day fatigue, my neighbor (who happened to be a grandma) was right…those were treasured times.
So, go ahead and shoot me a look. These
are treasured times for you, too. Raising
children has its trials, but no doubt God will
richly bless you and carry you, especially
when you need His grace most.
May this time of Advent bring moments
(even short ones) of quiet stillness to your
home and your heart.
In the Triumph of God’s Great Love,

A Caroling We Go
One more week until the Christmas program! Join us
at Sacred Heart on Thursday, December 10th at 6 and
7 pm to hear Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grades perform “A Caroling We Go!”
The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade performance
will begin at 6pm. Please make sure your students
are in their classrooms by 5:40 so they can get lined
up and ready to sing! If you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th
grade student, their performance will begin at 7pm,
so be sure they are in their classrooms by 6:45.
Wardrobe for this concert is nice Christmas clothes!
No jeans or t-shirts please. Make sure shoes are
comfortable enough for standing and dancing
around, and be aware that students will be sitting on
the floor if it is not their turn to perform on stage.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Sacred
Heart’s Christmas Program!

Academic Excellence & Achievement
Highlights of December
Kindergarten: Kindergarten students will be working on symbols of the season and their legends,
Advent, and preparing for the birth of Jesus. The students will also be working on learning the
author, illustrator, and the main event of a story. Kindergarteners will be building nativity scenes
with their buddies as well as making stockings, advent wreaths, and a count down chain to
Christmas.
1st Grade: In 1st grade, they are studying about Advent. The students are learning that Advent
is a time about waiting and anticipating, the meaning of the Advent Wreath, and preparing to
celebrate the birth of Christ.
2nd Grade: The 2nd graders are celebrating the season of Advent by preparing themselves and
waiting patiently for the birth of Jesus. The students are following an Advent calendar with a
different activity each day to keep them focused on the real meaning of Advent.
Yearbook Club
SHOJ Staff Quick Shot
Dear 8th grade families,
The yearbook club is putting baby/toddler
pictures of all of the eighth graders in the yearbook
like we have before. We would like you to send
in a baby/toddler picture of your eighth grader to
put in the yearbook. We would prefer if you would
send in a digital copy to Mrs.Barragree by emailing
it to her school email, [email protected] or
putting it on a jump drive and bringing the jump
drive to the office or to Mrs. Barragree. Make sure
your student’s name is on the jump drive or the
envelope. If you do not have a digital version, you
can have your child bring the photo to school and
turn it in to the office or Mrs. Barragree. If you send
in a physical photo, make sure your child’s name
is on the back of the photo or on the envelope. (All
hard-copy photographs and jump drives will be
returned.)

Favorite Work of Mercy: “To visit the sick”
Thank you to the following families who have
already submitted their photos: Adkins, Barragree,
Bourman, Dwyer, Feldman, Haymaker, Janatello,
Monslow, Morrissey, Mosburg, Parsons, Plattner,
Schreifles, Steere, Steffens, Stork, Varzaly, Warlop,
and Wentzel! (If you don’t see your name, but
thought you submitted a photo, please email Mrs.
Barragree!)
While it can be hard to spend time around those who are
sick and see them suffering, I know my visits have the power to bring a smile to their face and help keep them positive
during their tough time.
Thanks and God Bless,
What you might not know: I’M PREGNANT!!! I’m having
a boy and he is due May 21!
