Angus boasts beautiful countryside with its mountains, lochs and woodlands allowing
visitors of all ages to enjoy the great outdoors. The Angus Ranger services provides a host
of environmental activities from guided walks and self-led trails to more adventurous
activities such as hillwalking, orienteering and various watersports. Woodland
management and the construction of bird boxes for nature conservation are also an
attractive feature. There are also exciting activity days for children of all ages that the

The Montrose Silver Arrow was presented in 1850 by the Burghers of Montrose as a
prize for an archery competition to be held on the Links. The competition has been
held every six years over the last 160 years. Archery competitors from the Royal
Company, resplendent in their ancient uniforms will assemble in the car park of the
Park Hotel at about 2.30pm. They will then march down Dorward Road to the Links.
The archers will shoot with traditional long bows over a distance of 180 yards at a
target known as a "clout". Spectators are welcome to watch the parade and the
competition which will continue for about 2 - 3 hours, ending in the presentation of the
Silver Arrow to the winner.
