D EA R ACC FANS , F R I EN DS & ALU M NI :
elcome to the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s
Golf Championship. As you enjoy our competition, you are
witnessing national-caliber student-athletes performing
at the highest level.
The ACC is coming off successful fall and winter Olympic sports
seasons in which our conference captured two NCAA team
championships and 10 individual NCAA titles. We look forward to
completing a banner year as our spring sports teams and studentathletes continue to build on a longstanding winning tradition.
Last season saw ACC women’s golf complete an outstanding year
as Virginia captured its first team title and Duke’s Leona McGuire
took medalist honors at the Championship. Duke led the ACC’s 11
teams in the NCAA Championship at Bradenton, Florida, by
reaching the semifinal round. Two ACC golfers placed among the
top 15 in individual competition.
The ACC has long stood for excellence on the course and in the
classroom. That commitment was demonstrated last season, when
62 women’s golfers were named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll,
having earned a 3.0 GPA or better for the school year. That was one
of several highlights in a year in which 82 ACC teams in all sports
received Academic Progress Rate recognition awards from the
NCAA, once again the most of any Power 5 conference.
Our congratulations and best wishes go out to all of our studentathletes, our coaches and programs, and my sincere thanks to you
for your support of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Sincerely,
ACC teams have captured
nine team titles so far this
season. Top-ranked Duke
leads the way with three
championships, followed
by Notre Dame and
Louisville with two, Florida
State and Virginia one
each.
John D. Swofford, Commissioner
Atlantic Coast Conference
