This successful telenovela from Chile
follows a prominent physician and family
patriarch Angel Mercader (Héctor Noguera)
as he tries to teach his seven unruly sons
how to be men in a man’s world, but they
defy him and get under his skin to get his
attention, love and validation. Angel is too
concerned with losing face to realize that if
he doesn’t adjust to the middle class values
of his children and wife Consuelo (Liliana
Ross,) they are going to cut him off forever.
The lack of father-son affection manifests
itself in all kinds of superficial affairs in
which the men seek solace creating all
kinds of havoc and hidden pain. Particularly
hurtful is the physician’s relation with his
openly gay son. Will Angel Mercader be
able to adjust before damaging his family
too deeply or will he continue, at all costs
and to all lengths, with the male legacy of
being machos.
