RECAP OF LMRFD BOARD MINUTES AND ELECTION

Administrator John Flynn reported that as of the end of April LMRFD has a quarter million in the treasury and should have a decent cash balance at the end of the fiscal year, depending on repair and
maintenance of our ambulances between now and then. The new budget for 2016/2017 was passed
out and will be posted for public notice. Administrator Flynn officially adopted the tentative Revenue
and Expenditure Budget totaling $906,011. A public meeting will be held on June 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the
Dolan Springs Chamber of Commerce office. This is when the newly elected board members will be
sworn into office. Also, the budget for 2016/2017 will be reviewed and a date, time and place will be
set for a public hearing as required by Arizona statute. John Flynn set a tentative date of June 22,
2016 for final approval and adoption of the budget by the new Board. The newly elected board members are: David Anthony, Steve Berg, Deborah Cass, Charlotte Kiffer and Eric Terrill.
A line of credit has been established at National Bank of Arizona. Flynn also recommended Gabe Buldra of the James
Vincent Group as accountant. He is a CFO for a number of fire districts. Flynn approved an operating IGA with the
Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District for fire prevention services. Fire Chief Tony DeMaio announced that Ellen
Reh-Bower is retiring after 10 ½ years as the Administrative Office Manager. Nancy Scott is currently in training as the
new Administrative Office Manager. The Chief reported that LMRFD answered a total of 58 calls, 32 EMS and 23 transports during April. LMRFD has been plagued with vehicle maintenance and radio problems. The new reporting system
that all fire districts use is having ―hiccups‖. Chief DeMaio is working on a contract with the State Forester and the
Homeland Security grant is ongoing. Two new P.O.C. paramedics were put on shift, and he reports that he has scheduled Paramedics in Meadview and he hopes dark days in Station 43 will soon be reduced. Chief DeMaio has attended
WACEMS, Fire Officer’s class, Infectious Disease Control class and a DPS fingerprinting class that will enable him to
begin doing in-house necessary background checks for new hires and volunteers. LMRFD will participate in a County
Emergency Management bus crash at Diamond Bar and Pierce Ferry Road.
The call to the public included a question on how much does a new ambulance cost? Flynn answered, $180,000 if
new. He is looking at moving a box from one we currently have to a new cab and chassis. Another question was the
cost of the Chief’s truck. Flynn answered that it depends on what is purchased, $18,000 would be a low cost. Another
question was ―how does LMRFD collect bad debts of $336,000?‖ Flynn answered that most of this debt is due to contracted assignment from Medicare and AHCCCS and there is no way to collect this as long as LMRFD accepts Medicare and AHCCCS. Ambulance rates are based on what Arizona DHS allows.
The next Board meeting will be Monday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Station 43 in Meadview.

MT. TIPTON SCHOOL TAKES TOP HONORS IN KUSD STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TESTS!
At the beginning of each year, students take a pre-test: one test in Math and the other test in English Language Arts (or ELA). These assessments are tests on what students will be learning throughout their upcoming year. In short, the pre-tests provide a baseline
for beginning student knowledge.
After each education quarter, students are tested in both Math and ELA on what they learned in class for that particular quarter.
Teachers and administrators are able to monitor the growth of each individual student (by subject) by comparing the pre-test results
with the results from each quarter assessment. Finally, at the end of the year, students take a comprehensive end-of-year test.
Again, using the pre-test scores (taken in the beginning of the year) teachers and administrators are able to assess how much growth
(and achievement) each student earned in each subject throughout the year.
I am pleased to announce that Mt. Tipton excelled and shined throughout the Kingman Unified School District (KUSD). The following are the results of the end-of-year tests:

These impressive rankings are the result of the hard work of students, teachers and staff. If you have been reading these Mt. Tipton
articles throughout the school year, you know that Mt. Tipton has implemented many new and innovative programs to excite and
invigorate our students. Our after-school-programs have included the Homework Club, sports programs, the Garden Club, and special English programs for English Language Learners (ELL). Two separate Friday school sessions have included special math programs, writing workshops, drama workshops and hands on gardening workshops. Students have participated in many community
events including parades (in Dolan Springs and Meadview), Christmas caroling at local businesses, and even community cleanups.
And of course, you and your support of our school played a big part in our success this year. Thank you all for your unwavering
support and belief that the students of Mt. Tipton School can achieve high expectations and also be a leader in the Kingman Unified
School District.
So, climb on board the “Bright Future Train of Today” with our students at Mt. Tipton School. The train whistle is blowing as we
chug away from the station and begin another exciting journey. Leave some room in the lids of your eyes to open even wider as we
travel to new and exciting subjects next school year. Future projects will include expanding our hydroponics gardening (with the
help of the University of Arizona Agricultural College), expanding our raised bed gardening (with the help from University of Arizona Master Gardeners), the study of drones, robotics, and computer coding/programming. All of this to prepare our students for
the cutting-edge careers of tomorrow……today!

Mohave County Supervisor Jean Bishop is happy to announce Mohave County Public Works & Information Technology’s new application to the County’s Geographic Information System on the Mohave County Web Site. This is a map
based viewer available for open maintenance petitions which will allow you to access the County Highway and Roadway
Maintenance petition information.
This application was developed entirely in-house and is free for users wishing to access this information. The application shows the geographic location of each open petition as well as petition-specific information on the road name and
limits, Board of Supervisors action acknowledging receipt of the petition and the length of the petitioned road.
If anyone would like to access the County’s Geographic Information System application viewer, it is accessible through
the Mohave County website www.mohavecounty.us. From the main home page select the ―Departments‖ tab, choose
―Public Works‖ followed by the ―Engineering‖ tab. From the ―Engineering‖ page select ―Roadway Petitions‖ where you
will be able to open the Map Viewer and search for open petitions through map navigation or specific road name search.
Orange represents Regular Road Petitions and purple denotes Tertiary Petitions. Click on orange/purple highlighted
road sections to view information on petition details.
As many of you already know, Mohave County maintains unsurfaced roads accepted for regular maintenance through
an assigned road grading route/circuit while those roads accepted for tertiary maintenance entails work consisting only
of roadway surface smoothing and minor repairs. Tertiary maintenance will normally occur only after all other roadway
maintenance operations in the County’s routine roadway maintenance system are complete.

KRMC‟s Dr. Rivera Joins Komen Board
Kingman Regional Medical Center Medical Oncologist, Dr. Edgardo Rivera has been appointed to the board of directors
for Susan G. Komen Arizona. The board of directors is responsible for establishing the strategic vision of Komen Arizona. Headquartered in Phoenix, Komen Arizona’s mission is ―to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering
people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing science to find the cures.‖
In March 2016, Dr. Rivera began a 3-year term as Northern Arizona’s only representative on the 21-member board. As a
Komen Arizona board member, Dr. Rivera is responsible for meeting the mission and advancing the work of Komen Arizona. Dr. Rivera’s position on the board will strengthen the relationship between Kingman Regional Medical Center and
Susan G. Komen Arizona, a relationship that will benefit breast cancer patients in our community and beyond.
Dr. Rivera joined KRMC’s medical staff in January, 2015. Prior to coming to Kingman, he served as Medical Director of
the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona and served as Medical Director of Methodist Hospital’s
Breast Center in Houston, Texas. He also served as a Professor of Medicine on the faculty of the University of Texas,
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the Breast Medical Oncology Department.
He has conducted extensive medical research on various cancer treatments and therapies with an emphasis on breast
cancer. He is an author of over sixty published cancer research papers and is considered one of the nation’s foremost
authorities on breast cancer.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s regional office in Kingman began the ninth season of its popular Summer
Wildlife Series on May 27 with a free, one-hour presentation on the desert tortoise.
The Summer Wildlife Series sessions are held on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingman Mohave County Library, 3269 N.
Burbank St., in Kingman. The remaining presentations are scheduled: June 17 — Native Colorado River Fish; July 8
