Premier Studio Tour in the Country
I would like to invite you to join us for the Toe River Studio Tour
this December 6-8, 2013. It is perhaps the largest and the
longest running studio tour in Western North Carolina; you will
find craftspeople and artists in nearly every medium, many tops
in their field.

An Old Time Christmas
Saturday, December 7
The tour is a FREE, self-guided trip that will lead you to some
unique places in our community that is situated between Mt.
Mitchell and Roan Mountain. Visitors travel through valleys,
past streams, across rivers, over hilltops, and experience
breathtaking mountain vistas as they those many out-of-theway studios. Meet the artists, see where they create and where they live. Our small towns also
offer an array of galleries, studios, and other quaint businesses you won’t want to miss.
To take the tour all you need is this guide, and then follow the red, arrowed tour signs. Stop
by either one of our TRAC Galleries to pick up your map and view the artwork on display.
The TRAC Spruce Pine Gallery features an exhibit of tour participants well-ahead of the tour
weekend and provides a great visual tool for planning your trip. Also, TRAC’s Burnsville Gallery
is open to welcome you with a display of some of our tour participants’ artwork.
Our Tour Committee works hard all year long to improve the tour. One suggestion we’ve
heard was to move the June tour dates and make the times consistent. We’ve queried artists
and participants, and we’re pleased to announce that we have moved the Spring Studio Tour
to the first weekend in June. Now we can say the Toe River Studio Tours take place “the
first weekends in June and December” and the times for both are Friday from noon to 4 pm,
Saturday and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. We thank you for providing feedback and hope
you will continue to give us your opinions that can help to make our tour even better.

P.S. Check page two for the special events we've scheduled during the Tour. On Friday,
December 6, enjoy the reception, meet and greet the artists and plan your next two days,
then walk up the stairs and listen to singer, songwriter, storyteller, Michael Reno Harrell, in a
special Christmas performance at 7pm. And on Saturday, the 7th, TRAC will present an "Old
Time Mountain Christmas" from 2 to 4pm at the ARC. There will be activities for kids of all
ages and music by the Traditional Arts Program for Students [TAPS] instructors. This program
is sponsored by the NC Arts Council, a state agency, and the Blue Ridge National Heritage
Area.
