JOHNSTOWN — 2014 brought the Fox
Run Golf Club the distinct honor of being
named by the Reader’s of the Leader Herald
as the area’s “Best Golf Course”. Fox Run will
not skip a beat in working to earn that recognition again. “ We are already out on the course
beginning to pick up debris and such that
mother nature brought us this winter. The
greatest news is that all 18 greens made it
through the winter without any damage,” said
Rich Scott, GM and PGA Head Professional.
Projects that we worked on last year are paying
off this spring, specifically the drainage work.”
“The course is draining better than ever,”
Scott said. “Although we are going to get a late
start, it looks like the turf is going to be awesome this year. The greens will continue to be
the best in the area. We have hired seasoned
Golf course Superintendent, Marvin Seaman
to oversee our maintenance crew, which is
headed by Mike Stoutner, who has been with
us for 14 years.”
Joining Mike will be, Noah Scott, Josh Nethaway and several other grounds crew. Fox Run
will continue to lead the Junior Golf initiative.
Jane’s Tee’s have been a great hit, with children under 14 playing free with a paid adult.
“We are also, hosting a team for the PGA’s
Junior League Golf, which is Little League for
golf,” Scott said.
Children 7-13 will be able to join the team
and have the opportunity to play against other
courses.
“Players will be provided with jerseys and
hats and play a two-person scramble format,”
Scott said.

Player Development award. There will also be
two Junior Summer camps that will be held in
July and August.
Don’t forget Fox Run when you are looking
for a place to host your Wedding, Birthday
Party, Prom or and other functions. Our professional staff will make sure that your day is

AMSTERDAM — The course was established in 1937 boasting an original Robert
Trent Jones design. Starting this season, the
Golf Commission will invest time and resources to restore the course to its original
design.
Darren Graf has joined the staff this year
as the new superintendent. Graf has been
working with personnel from the Robert
Trent Jones Architectural Group to begin the
upgrades. The greens will be the first phase
and golfers this season will see marked improvement in them as well as other areas of
the course.
If your looking for advice on how to play
this challenging course you might want to
speak with Joe Merendo.
Beginning his 31st year as the course professional, he knows every aspect of the
course.
Joe has a wealth of knowledge knowing
every lie from the fairway to the greens.
After consulting Joe, golfers must then
tackle the hilly fairways and small sloping
greens on their own.
If you’re a golfer that likes the risk/reward
shot, you will love our signature 15th hole.
The creek that lies in the middle of the fairway is 220 yards off the tee.
The fifth and sixth holes are very picturesque while the seventh tee boasts a 180-degree breathtaking view of the Mohawk
Valley.
After your round, please stop by the clubhouse and say hi to Laura Elmendorf.
Laura’s lunch and dinner specials are some
of the best in the area.
The clubhouse is a complete dining facility offering breakfast, lunch or dinner. Laura
also offers a complete catering service for
banquets at the clubhouse that offer both inside or patio dining.

CAROGA LAKE — The Nick Stoner
Municipal Golf Course was established in
1925. It is located just 10 minutes north of
Gloversville and Johnstown at 1803 State
Highway 10, at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in beautiful Caroga Lake.
The ever-changing scenery makes this golf
course unique. It’s not uncommon to see
deer, fox and turkeys while playing a round at
The Nick.
PGA Golf Professional/Superinendent
Steve Jennings continues to make improvements to the course. Several new tees will be
built and existing ones renovated this year to
enhance your golfing experience at the Nick
Stoner Golf Course.
The golf course offers a pro shop and also
has cart and club rentals. Lessons are available by appointment.
Leagues are very popular at Nick Stoner.
All levels of golfer are invited to join the various groups that play the course Monday
through Friday.
In 2013, this course was voted as the People’s Choice Award among the golf course
in Fulton County.
Before May 1, individuals can become
members for $495 and couples for $915.
After May 1, an individual membership is
$550 and a couples membership is $975. Individual membership plus season cart rental
is $940. A junior membership (age 20 and
younger) is available for $125.
Daily rates at Nick Stoner are a great deal.
Greens fees for nine holes are $12 every day
(with cart $20). Playing 18 holes will cost
$22 ($34 with cart). This year, we are introducing a new free play for youths age 7 to
15. On Fridays after 4 p.m., kids will play for
free with a paying adult. The Monday
through Wednesday special is 18 holes and
cart for $24 per person.
Details have not been finalized at the time
of this printing, but let’s just say you may
drive away with some new wheels for a holein-one at The Nick.
Also look for new senior tees this year.
Even after this hard winter, all the greens
are looking even better than last year.
