and business offices line along the main street, Watanabe-dori
Avenue. In close proximity is the relaxing Ohori Park and spots

The stylish museum opened in 1979 and was designed
by Kunio Maekawa, one of the apprentices of Le
Corbusier, the famous architect of the 20th century. With
the collection of artworks including important cultural
properties, the museum is well worth checking out.

Keyaki-dori Avenue
This building was first constructed in 1909
to house the Kyushu Branch of Nippon Life
Insurance Company. The 19th century
British style building of red bricks and
white granite, with a dome shaped roof
and various other features. It is designated
as a national important cultural asset.

Hakata Area
About 100 zelkova trees line the 800 meter long
street. The trees make a colorful tunnel over the
street; green in spring, and red and yellow in
autumn. The avenue was selected as one of the
Best 100 Spots of Fukuoka City and one of the Best
100 Boulevards with Trees in Japan.

Fukuoka Castle Ruins / Ohori Park
Ohori Park is located next to Maizuru Park,
whose symbolic landmark is Fukuoka Castle
Ruins and widely known as a viewing spot of
cherry blossoms. In the center of the park is a
beautiful pond and attracts many joggers,
cyclers and people seeking a resting place.

Canal City Hakata
It is located in between Hakata Station and Tenjin. Hotel,
theatres, shops, restaurants, showrooms and various other
facilities are located along the 180 meters long canal.
Opened in 2011 as a new landmark of Kyushu, it
serves not only as a station building but is also
tenanted by Amu Plaza Hakata, which holds over
200 shops, City Dining Kuten, one of Japan’s
largest restaurant zones, and Hakata Hankyu
department store, its first store in Kyushu.

Festivals and various other cultural activities with history and tradition
are alive in Hakata. The area also has major commercial facilities such
as JR Hakata Station and Canal City Hakata, as well as Nakasu, which
glitters with neon lights at night and known as the largest entertainment
district in Kyushu.

Hakataza Theater
Hakataza Theater is designated exclusively for plays
and hosts popular musicals, kabuki and other plays
on a monthly schedule. It features a classical
exterior, gorgeous audience seats, hanamichi
(extensional stage) and stage rotation function for
kabuki plays.

Located between Naka River and Hakata River, Nakasu is the largest
entertainment district in Kyushu. Here you can find many
long-established restaurants and bars. Along Naka River, many
Yatai street stalls will be set up at night, which is a special feature
of Hakata attracting many tourists daily.
It is a grand tutelary of Hakata and also friendly
referred to by the nickname, Okushida-san.
Hakata Yamakasa festival is dedicated to this
shrine, and is widely known as the summer
feature of Hakata.

This 234 meters tall tower is the tallest marine tower in Japan. It is a symbolic
building of Fukuoka City and friendly referred to by the name of Mirror Sail, which
