More than 31 Years of Milestones
Ethridge ends a record-setting era as CEO and Executive Vice-President
I
n July 1985 when PEC’s Board of
Trustees hired Randy J. Ethridge
as General Manager, he arrived
prepared and ready to go to work.
A native of Stroud, Oklahoma,
Ethridge was chosen in 1969
as the first recipient of the
Oklahoma Association of Electric
Cooperative’s Manager-Trainee
Scholarship. During the college
Circa 1985, PEC’s CEO and
training program, he worked
Executive VP Randy Ethridge
at Verdigris Valley Electric
Cooperative, Collinsville; Central
Rural Electric Cooperative, Stillwater; and Western Farmers
Electric Cooperative, Anadarko.

Following his 1973 graduation from Oklahoma State
University with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Accounting, Ethridge joined Alfalfa Electric Cooperative
in Cherokee, Oklahoma, as Administrative Assistant. The
following year, at the age of 23, Ethridge became the
youngest rural electric general manager in the nation
which is an honor that he still holds 43 years later. He
remained there for twelve years prior to accepting the
position at PEC. Ethridge brought training and experience
in rural electric management to the Ada job that would
propel him for the work and subsequent success that lay
ahead for the co-op. His vision paved the way as the coop’s assets grew from approximately $26 million in 1986 to
more than $200 million today.
“Randy’s leadership and service for our cooperative
members has been tremendous,” said PEC’s Board
President Eldon Flinn. “His dedication to People’s Electric
and the entire electric cooperative network will certainly
be missed. We all wish him well in retirement.”
During his distinguished cooperative career, Ethridge has
served on numerous boards, including the National Rural
Electric Cooperative Association, CoBank, Central Area
Data Processing Board, Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma,

1
Late 1980s: Became the first electric cooperative in Oklahoma to
pay off all loans from the Rural Electrification Administration (REA);
computerized billing and energy efficiency rebates arrived along
with a unique customer ID numbering system on all meter poles.
2
2000s: PEC headquarters located at 1130 W. Main in Ada were
sold to the Chickasaw Nation and Administrative Services and
Operations are brought back together at 1600 N. Country Club
Road in Ada; automated outage and payment systems evolved to
include World Wide Web bill presentment and payment tools.
1990s: Became the first electric cooperative in Oklahoma to
remotely monitor all substations with a Supervisory Control
and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
3
2010s: Adopted an all-steel pole construction program
while PEC’s assets increase to over $200 million.

the late 1930s, Guy Binkley received a plaque at the 1985 Annual Meeting in recognition of his role as “Original Incorporator of PEC, May 24, 1937;” 3) Harold Hunter with the Rural
Electrification Administration (REA) received PEC’s outstanding loans payoff in 1987; 4) State Senator Dick Wilkerson (District 13, 1989-2003), 5) PEC’s Board of Trustees, circa 1987,

Tri-County Indian Nations Community Development
Corporation, and previously served as an alternate on
the Kansas Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors.
Ethridge served as a Trustee of Western Farmers Electric
Cooperative from 1978 to 1983. He served over 40 years
on the Oklahoma Association REC’s Board of Trustees and
was the board president in 1998.
Locally, he was voted “Ada’s Coolest Boss” in the Ada News
1994 Readers Choice Awards, and for his outstanding
leadership in the creation of the Ada Area Community
Development Corporation in 1996, the Ada Area Chamber
of Commerce presented Ethridge their Leadership Award.
“I am grateful to have spent the majority of my lifetime
serving rural electric cooperative members and am
deeply honored to have had the opportunity to lead PEC
for the past 31 years,” said Ethridge. 632402100
Among Randy’s most proud achievements at PEC was the
REA loan payoff which netted PEC over $7 million in 1987
and the more recent Lease/Leaseback which improved
PEC’s financial position by over $13 million in 2004.
Incoming CEO Kevin Wood, who will take over the reigns
from Ethridge on September 1, reflected on Ethridge’s
distinguished career. “Randy has been a remarkable
leader and
mentor who
has been
responsible for
a great portion
of PEC’s success
over the years.
He leaves a big
September
set of shoes to
24
fill,” said Wood.
End PEC Day at
the Parade
Ethridge added,
“At PEC, we
always try to
honor God and
seek His wisdom
and that has
made all the
difference.”
