Two Stadium Of Fire Tickets

The County will be giving away two tickets to the Stadium of Fire Concert
& Fireworks Display
Anyone interested can register by filling out a ticket at the Courthouse
between now and Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 5:00 pm.
Registration will also be available Saturday from 8 am – 12 pm at the
Flaming Gorge Market and from 7:30 – 8:30 pm July 1st at the Baseball
Diamond behind the Elementary School.
The Drawing will be held at 8:30 pm following practice! Enter your name
for the chance to see Miley Cyrus, the Blue Man Group, Glenn Beck and an
awesome fireworks show at this year’s Stadium of Fire!
Limit of one registration ticket per person.
The winner does not need to be present to win, but must pick up the Show
tickets before 5 pm on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 or another name will
be drawn. Donations will be gladly accepted, but are not required!
Funds received will be used to start up the Library!
Sheriff's Department advisory group met for the
first time on June 26th. There will be monthly
meetings and anyone is welcome to attend if they
remain positive and help to look to find solutions to
situations. There were about 20 people at the first

Bridger Valley Relay for Life
The American Cancer Society sponsors
50% of Proceeds of any artwork sold will be
donated to the Bridger Valley Relay for Life.
Relays all over the country including one in
Bridger Valley where some of our local
residents plan to participate. Artist Doe
Gardiner of Doe’z Art Werkz will be donating 50% of the proceeds from sales of
her artwork between now and July. She is
also working with others to create additional activities/fundraisers. July 17th and
18th is the actual date of the relay. She

AREA CELL PHONE
RECYCLING PROJECT
How many old cell phones do you have sitting around the house, thrown in a drawer or in a box in the garage? If so,
you are a candidate to participate in a two-fold project which is called Cell Phones for Soldiers. You can donate your
old cell phones and accessories and, in doing so, you are helping to keep our landfill free of these phones and batteries,
etc. Cell Phones for Soldiers, started by two teenagers in Massachusetts, collects cell phones, recycles them, and with
the proceeds buys prepaid calling cards for our troops serving in the Middle East. For each donated and recycled
phone, they are paid enough to provide one hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. You will be supporting our troops as
well as being environmentally friendly to our Mother Earth! You can see a short video and learn more about this nonprofit organization by visiting their website @ www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com which has raised almost $1,000,000 in donations and has distributed over 400,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.
Your support is much appreciated. Please look for the recycling boxes located at the Daggett County Courthouse and
at the Manila City offices. Let’s keep clean by recycling and show our support of our troops!
Planning and Zoning
The Planning and Zoning Commission has been busy this spring working on the General Plan, holding hearings
for Lot combinations, subdivisions and changes to the Planning and Zoning ordinance, plus looking at a large
number of building permits. Several members of the Planning Commission will be stepping down soon and
new members will be needed to take their place. It’s challenging and requires some dedication of time.
There are times when we meet twice a month and outside reading and studying of the zoning ordinance and
related documents is helpful.
The Planning and Zoning Ordinance is posted on the County website at: http://www.daggettcounty.org/
DocumentView.asp?DID=8 . Building inspections are required for any construction, enlargement, alteration,
repair, moving, demolition, or change of occupancy of a building or structure. There are some exceptions like
one-story detached accessory structures less than 120 square feet, painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets or counter tops do not require a building permit. For questions contact the Building Inspector at (435)
784-3218 ext. 202 or the Planning and Zoning secretary at 784-3218 ext. 134.
Obituary - Dolores Ylincheta Terry passed away peacefully at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal
on June 4, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was the second of four children born to John and Aniceta Ylincheta in Salt Lake
City on June 30, 1923. In 1925, the Ylincheta family moved to Manila. Dolores attended school in Manila and graduated
from high school in Ogden in 1941.
Dolores married Heber Jex Terry on Dec. 19, 1941 in McKinnon, Wyo. She became a member of the LDS church
and was sealed to Jex in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. Together they raised three sons, John Charles “Jack,” Randal James
“Randy,” and Dennis Jex “D.J.”
Dolores will be remembered for her heart, laugh, rose gardens, homemade crescent rolls, and her pride in her
Basque heritage. She was a hard-working, ambitious lady who retired from First Security Bank in 1985 after years of service.
Her main interest in life was her family and second to that she enjoyed snowmobiling, water skiing, hunting camps, knitting
and crocheting.
Dolores is survived by husband, Jex Terry; two sons, Jack (Shirley) Terry and D.J. Terry; brother, Art (Jill) Ylincheta; 11
grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, John
and Ani Ylincheta; brother, John Ylincheta; sister, Blanche Von Gyurscy; and brother-in-law, Alex Von Gyurscy; son, Randy
Terry; great-granddaughter, KayCee Herbert, and great-grandson, Lane Ward.
Funeral Services were Monday, June 9, at the LDS Glines 1st and 5th Ward LDS Chapel in Vernal at 11 a.m. Viewing
was on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and at the chapel one hour prior to services. Interment
was at the McKinnon Cemetery in McKinnon, Wyo., at 3 p.m. under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

Manila Celebrations
Friday, June 13th was Manila’s 50th Birthday Celebration. The celebration was held at the Town Office complex. The Fire trucks were pulled out and people were able to mingle, dance, sing karaoke and of course eat
birthday cake. Residents and visitors mingled with dignitaries from surrounding communities, while other dignitaries including Governor Jon Huntsman sent their
congratulations and regrets for not being able to
attend. It was a fun evening for those who attended!
Saturday, June 14th was the annual Manila Festival
at the County Park in Manila. It was a great event
with lots of activities for the kids, informational and
craft booths, and of course lots of food. There was
a Karaoke Contest that was a lot of fun for listeners
and participants. We have some really talented
singers in our community. Our State Senator Kevin
Van Tassell from Vernal and Republican Congressional candidate Bill Dew did a great job of serenading the audience prior to the contest. Congratulations to all the participants and thanks to
those who sponsored the prizes.

Digital TV Information
On February 17, 2009 full-power TV stations will cease broadcasting on their current
analog channels. If you are in the market for
a new TV verify that it is capable of receiving
a digital signal. Daggett County along with
the rest of Eastern Utah has already converted to Digital signal. If you wish to receive
TV without the assistance of a Satellite company you will need a converter box. Information about transitioning, coupons and a list of
vendors can be found online at: https://
www.dtv2009.gov/AboutProgram.aspx .
Each household is eligible to request up to
two coupons worth $40 each to be used toward the purchase of up to two, digital-toanalog converter boxes.
If you have an analog TV and Satellite
service you will be fine. You do not need to
do anything else. If you want to pick up overthe air-television, without purchasing Satellite
service you will need a converter or digital TV
(SDTV, EDTV or HDTV) and a digital antenna.
Many people in our area are currently taking
advantage of over-the-air-television. Channels include 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 14. Several of
these channels have multiple channels with
different programming. Antennas in most of
the County should be pointed towards the
east as our County’s signal comes in just north
of Dutch John. If you are south, east or in
Dutch John adjust according to your location.

Mosquito Update
The Daggett County Mosquito Abatement District received a $10,000 grant from the State to continue
larvaciding efforts within the County. Jeff Gosar was hired to help with this effort this summer under the supervision of manager Rick Summers.
The first aerial spraying is scheduled for sometime between
June 29th and July 5th, based on weather and pilot availability. A second spraying may be conducted towards the end of July or early
August depending on conditions. Flights start after 7 pm until dark
and at first light until 8 am, based on temperature, wind and possible
rain. Fyfanon (Malathion) is the chemical used.
The Mosquito District is not set up or funded to deal with other
pests like horse flies, gnats or grasshoppers. If mosquitoes are a problem on your property the district has traps that can be placed on
your property to determine the type of mosquitoes and quantity of
mosquitoes.
We can then provide additional assistance based on those results.
Each property owner can help by dumping standing water in buckets barrels or receptacles on a regular basis (It only takes 3-5 days for eggs to hatch and change to flying mosquitoes capable of laying more eggs). Water should be moved a little more frequently if possible and not allowed to pool up at the low end of fields or gardens. If you have ponds or stagnant water that can’t be otherwise channeled, please contact the Mosquito Abatement District at (435) 784-3218 ext. 202 or 134 and leave
a message if no one is in the office.
