YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos and acts as a
distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers.
Al Jazeera English has a partner channel that features the AJE live stream as well as most of the news
reports and programmes produced for the channel. Each programme strand has a Show homepage
which can be subscribed to that presents lists of episodes and clips. Playlists can be used to group
videos together.

The live stream is currently available on the Al Jazeera English Facebook. Al Jazeera will launch a
Facebook application soon which will include much of the website content and VOD of news and
programmes.

Dailymotion is a video sharing website with over 135 million unique monthly and 1.8 billion videos views
worldwide. Video content is currently being copied from YouTube to Dailymotion and the Al Jazeera
English channel on Dailymotion will be launched soon.

Google Chrome web applications are advanced interactive websites. You can access the web apps that
you install from the Chrome Web Store easily through shortcuts in Chrome’s New Tab page.
The Al Jazeera English Chrome application includes articles, blogs and programme videos. It also has a
“Watch Live” feature for viewing the live stream of the channel.

blinkx is the world’s largest and most advanced video search engine. It has an index of over 35 million
hours of searchable video and more than 720 media partnerships, including national broadcasters,
commercial media giants, and private video libraries.
Al Jazeera has a channel on Blinkx which displays uploaded videos.

Livestation partners with live news channels from around the world to give access to quality live news
coverage - on any device, be it on your computer, mobile phone or TV. Viewers can watch any news
channel for free or go premium for high quality.
Live video is available on the Al Jazeera English channel on the Livestation website as well as through a
desktop application and Livestation apps on multiple platforms.

By downloading Real Player and purchasing a SuperPass subscription, you can get 24/7 access to Al
Jazeera English, BBC World News, CNN, Euronews and other live news channels. France 24 and
Deutsche Welle are available without subscribing.

The partnership between Maktoob and Yahoo! was established in 2009 with the aim to strengthen and
support Arabic content on the internet in the Middle East region. This partnership involves adapting
existing products to the Arabic language while also working with local developers to develop and offer
new and compelling products. The current focus is to facilitate the growth of online Arabic content to
accommodate the increasing number of internet users searching for information in the language.

A podcast consists of episodes of a series in digital audio or video files subscribed to and downloaded
through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device, such as an iPhone.

iTunes is a free application for the Mac, PC, iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. It lets you download, organize
and play digital audio and video on your computer.
Al Jazeera English has a Site on the iTunes platform which lists the podcasts available. There are audio
and video (SD & HD) podcasts for almost all programmes.

4.1. Al Jazeera English Applications

The Al Jazeera English iPhone app features
content from the Al Jazeera English website
including Top Stories, Blogs, Opinion, and
Features as well as access to full-length
programme episodes. Live streaming of the
24-hour live news broadcast is available in
audio and video format free of charge.
New version under development

The Al Jazeera English Blackberry app
is available on BlackBerry App World.
Features include 24 hour free access
to Al Jazeera’s live broadcast, all the
latest news stories, opinion pieces,
features, spotlights, videos and picture
galleries from across the world.

The Al Jazeera widget now comes preloaded on all Samsung Wave devices across the Middle East and
North African region, allowing you to get the latest news updates from Al Jazeera in both Arabic and
English.
Nokia users can download Al Jazeera's news widget from the Nokia Ovi store. The news widget,
available on compatible Nokia devices gives users quick and easy access to real-time news updates from
Al Jazeera English.
Nokia TV
Nokia devices will soon be able to stream TV shows from broadcasters’ catch-up services. The service
will debut in Finland and will be a "signature hub" on the Windows Phone 7 devices, meaning that users
can touch a tile on the home screen to access the service and be directed to programming offered by
major broadcasters online after they have aired on TV.
Development in underway for making Al Jazeera English available on this service.

4.2 Third party mobile and tablet applications
These applications usually aggregate content from content creators and owners and present them in a
unique way in their application. Al Jazeera usually supplies content to these companies in the form of a
feed and it is limited to news content.
Flipboard features articles and news videos from Al Jazeera English curated in
magazine format.
Pulse is a news reading application for iPad, iPhone and Android that
transforms your favourite websites into an interactive mosaic.
Mobiles Republic is a leading publisher of applications for smartphones, tablets
and connected devices. Mobiles Republic's free news app, News Republic, will
feature full Al Jazeera English news articles and video content.
My Taptu is a social feed reader that aggregates content from online sources
such as news feeds, Facebook and Twitter. The app is available on iPhone and
Android devices and can be personalized by selecting the feeds that you are
interested in.
SkyGrid have apps on iPad, iPhone and Android that aggregate news feeds
and shows users what’s trending and updates them on interests that they
follow.
4.3 SMS Alerts
Text updates are produced in Arabic, English and French by the Arabic channel and news is categorized
as follows; Politics, Sports, Economics and Breaking News. Users Subscribe to the service either via

5. Over The Top Television (OTT)
OTT TV allows viewers to watch content that is available on the internet. The video is delivered via
broadband connections and so bypasses the traditional providers of TV services – hence the term ‘over
the top’.

The Al Jazeera application for Samsung Smart TV allows viewers worldwide to live stream the English and Arabic
news channels at any time. It is the first live streaming news application in the Gulf region.
Samsung’s Smart TV range is dominating the Gulf region with 45% market share in the Smart TV category and 50%
market share globally.

The latest Sony Bravia televisions offer on-demand video entertainment. The televisions connect to your
existing broadband connection, so you can enjoy on-demand access to internet videos through the
BRAVIA Internet Video Applications.

Google TV is a Smart TV platform from Google co-developed by Google, Intel, Sony and
Logitech. Google TV initially launched October 6, 2010, with official devices from Sony and Logitech.
Logitech have since discontinued their Google TV devices. New partners include LG, Samsung and Vizio,
some of which have 3D capabilities.
The Al Jazeera English application includes articles and news and programmes videos.

Live video via Livestation app
Roku is a small device that streams movies, TV shows, music, and other entertainment to your TV via the
Internet. Since Roku streams (rather than downloads) video, you get instant access to a huge library of
entertainment without having to store any video files on your computer or hard drive.
Al Jazeera English live streaming is available on the Roku platform via the Livestation application. An Al
Jazeera application is being developed that will include live video and VOD for news and programmes.

Boxee is a small device that streams films, TV shows, music, and other entertainment TVs via the
Internet. It comes with thousands of TV show episodes available from the Internet.
A Watch Later feature allows users to send web videos, including TV shows online, to the Boxee device
from any Internet browser.
Al Jazeera English is available on the Boxee platform via the Livestation application.
