Attracting experienced personnel very difficult
Attracting recent college graduates easier
Labor Issues
•
•
•
•
•
•
Technical labor pool limited in Palm Beach County
Retired technical personnel (like P&W) currently employed
Palm Beach County not nationally recognized as technology center
Local competition for limited labor pool
High fixed costs to conduct business limits salaries
Offshore / subsidized competition limits pricing and growth
Retention of Workforce
•
•
•
Young College Professionals can’t afford housing entry
Housing / taxes / insurance too expensive for experienced employees
Perception of secondary school systems

Florida Turbine Technologies
Competitive Challenges
• Highly Competitive Aerospace Sector – Outsourcing to
lower labor and facilities cost areas has become
increasingly more prevalent, which is impacting PBC’s
ability to compete in maintaining and creating hi-tech
jobs in the area - will always be pressure
• Lack of Matching Grants - Many other states offer
matching federal Small Business Innovative Research
(SBIR) grants to help win and further spur growth in hitech area – offering matches will compound growth in
our area
• Complex Incentive Process - FTT has aggressively
pursued state and county incentives, and these efforts
are not without costs due to the time involved and the
complexity of the process – need to simplify
