Personal Survival Techniques
Master (Workboats, less than 500gt)
The MCA is bringing into force a route for certification restricted to workboats that is structured to provide a progressive
career path for those in the workboat industry.
Candidates meeting the requirements will be issued with an STCW Certificate of Competency limited to service in workboats
of 500gt or less with an unlimited area of operation. This will be based on the certification requirements for large yachts
detailed in MSN 1802.
To qualify for issue of this new CoC, candidates must Hold a Master (Code Vessel less than 200gt not more than 150
miles from safe haven), and Officer of the Watch (Yachts, less than 500gt) CoC. Please also see the progression chart
overleaf for detailed information of other certificates that must be held.
