As an early adopter of technology, Carrie Kerpen
understands the impact of social media and that it
can be a confidence killer for women. If we were to
look at our friends, our colleagues and our
competitors' social profiles, we'd see lives that seem
absolutely perfect. And why not? Social media
creates a highlight reel of our greatest
accomplishments. But behind the mask of social
media, there is great struggle, even for the most
successful of leaders. In this presentation, Carrie
unveils an honest exploration of how her own
experiences and struggles as a leader have led her to
take risks she never thought she would, and become
the entrepreneur that she wanted to be.

If your data team only collects data and creates
reports, you are not maximizing their value. This talk
will cover how to collaboratively communicate with
your data team. Both data team members and data
consumers will benefit from learning about how to
ensure data findings have context and are business
action oriented. I will also give some personal
examples of where this has gone horribly wrong.
Olga Mack is the founder of
the WomenServeOnBoards.com movement making a
fiscal and social case for gender equality on
corporate boards. Olga will be presenting her findings
and demonstrating how you can encourage gender
equality on boards.

new data-based tracker, the Bloomberg GenderEquality Index, and what companies and leaders
need to do to help make sure more ambitious
employees have a shot at the top.

Combatting Stereotypes in STEM
We have years of experience in working with
organizations to create a context for high
performance. We do this by weaving together
innovation practices with individual transformation
work causing a shift people’s relationship to Integrity
and authentic communication and as a result we
have seen strategy implementation teams produce
extraordinary business results. In my presentation I
will discuss the secret sauce of creating a culture of
high performance, one that creates a structure for
extraordinary business results. the foundation for
these results are: Integrity, authentic communication
and innovation processes.
When women first entered the workforce and began
advancing into leadership positions, there was only
one model for how to lead: like a man. That model
has its advantages, but is inherently incomplete
without its feminine complement. Any effective leader
must value and demonstrate qualities of both, yet too
often the feminine gets lost in the competitive culture
of More, Bigger, Faster, NOW. Conscious Feminine
Leadership empowers women leaders to own and
value their strengths as women. By inviting
mindfulness, inclusivity, authenticity, and self-care
into our work, we can shift the culture and create a
more holistic and healthy way of doing business. This
interactive session will show you how you can begin
incorporating Conscious Feminine Leadership
practices and ideals in your everyday work life and
see that effort ripple outward to effect real change.
In the new knowledge economy, outdated 20th
century approaches to HR and performance
management are incapable of supporting a highly
competitive and productive workforce. Savvy
companies are redesigning their workplaces based
on cutting-edge research in psychology and
sociology. Formerly obscure academic terms like
stereotype threat, unconscious bias, and growth
mindset are rapidly becoming key concepts for HR
professionals. This talk will explain the core business

freelance journalist and the Career/Business Editor for
xoNecole. As a freelance journalist, she has written
exclusive interview features that combined have been
shared over 70,000 times through various social
media mediums. Besides xoNecole, her work in
digital media has been featured in publications like
Blavity, Black Enterprise, HerAgenda, Blogionista,
and Houston Style Magazine.
Alanah wants to challenge the notion of what it
means to be a woman. Her presentation will

Politics is ineffective and uninspiring right now. What
we need are new voices in political leadership. I will
talk about the need to get more young women to run
and why including this diverse, fresh thinking group
will help change politics and society for the better. Adding young women to a Congress where the
average age is 62, 94% are white and 81% are male
will help break the partisan gridlock and bring new
solutions to problems that haven’t been considered
before. I will talk about how we inspire young women
to run, and how we train them to win. I will also
discuss the barriers that hold young women back
from running and how to overcome them. Parna is also a STEM ambassador and an advocate
of women in technology. Her presentation will focus
on education in STEM, and how we can ensure more
students to study the STEM subjects and pursue
'non-traditional' careers.
Diversity and inclusion is more than a gender and
racial gap; it is also a language gap. To increase the
percentage of women in leadership, we must learn
the language of the leaders at the table. In our
research, we recognized that our participants
remained at the “beginners table” and mislabeled
their expertise due to a lack of confidence to leverage
new leadership skills. It takes confidence to learn a
new language, but it is a necessary part of increasing
the percentage of women leaders. The language of
leadership will bridge the gap for women who are
seeking to fill elevated leadership and advisory roles,
while limiting the effects of professional intimidation.
The Confidence Factor for Women in Leadership is
based on 4 years of in house research and the
language barrier for women was one of the top
issues women expressed was the lack of preparation
for high level leadership roles. This talk will give
women the confidence to create value in the
marketplace by limiting the language gap.

total size of the women’s economy. However, limited
data has prevented a more nuanced sense what the
women’s economy really looks like. How do
“women’s products” meet targeted needs? How
does women’s consumer power vary globally, or
between spending categories? Drawing on newly
published evidence from International Finance
Corporation (IFC), this presentation will highlight what

For women it’s no longer acceptable for companies
to just “shrink it and pink it” - the old “lets just scale
down the men’s version of a product” and add a
glossy coat of what is perceived to be a “female
pleasing color” on them just doesn’t work as a selling
tool anymore. Women want and need, research to
create a product that works for them on every level
for superior performance, fit, and functionality. They
want to see the research, they want to know WHY,
and most of all, they want to see someone like
themselves using the product in a honest way.
Marketing campaigns need to strive for using real
women over models, athletic builds over skinny girls,
action vs lounging, and have a message and climax
to them that makes you want to take action and

population — and they are on the frontlines — often
more deeply impacted than men and boys by
poverty, climate change, food insecurity, lack of
healthcare, and global economic crises. Their
contributions and leadership are central to finding a
solution. Through the power of personal stories, we
can bring forth the issues that need to be addressed
for impactful and measurable change. Women are a
critical solution for peace and prosperity. The panel
strives to engage discourse and dialogue to build
bridges through a respectful and impactful engage of

Shahla Haeri is an Associate Professor of Cultural
Anthropology and the former director of Women's
Studies Program (2001-2010) at Boston University.
She has conducted ethnographic research in Iran,
Pakistan and India, focusing on the implications of
marriage contract, gender inequality, comparative
feminisms and fundamentalisms, and women’s
political leadership in the Muslim world. Her
forthcoming book, tentatively called “Muslim
Women’s Paths to Power: From Bilqis to Benazir,”
concentrates on the challenges of authority faced by
charismatic Muslim women sovereigns (2017). She is
the author of Law of Desire: Temporary Marriage,
Mut’a, in Iran (1989, Revised Edition 2014), and No
Shame for the Sun: Lives of Professional Pakistani
women (2002).Dr. Haeri is the producer and director
of a video documentary (46 min.) entitled,
Mrs. President: Women and Political Leadership in
Iran, focusing on six women presidential contenders
in Iran in 2001, and is the recipient of several
postdocs, fellowships and grants,
Edina Skaljic was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina,
and she spent her childhood and adolescence
between Bosnia and numerous refugee camps
in Croatia, during the Bosnian genocide. It is during
this difficult period that Edina’s strong desire for
equality, justice, and being a voice for the voiceless,
was born. Her activism and community organizing
primarily focuses on genocide awareness and
refugee issues. She volunteers for various local and
national organizations, and is a co-founder of the "I
Also Was a Refugee Campaign", focusing on
debunking harmful myths
about refugees, and sharing positive and inspiring
stories of current and former refugees. Edina holds a
Bachelors Degree in Business Management
from Simmons College, and works as a finance
professional for Boston University. Shaheen Pasha is a journalist and assistant professor
of international journalism at the University of
Massachusetts-Amherst. She worked as the Middle
East Regional Editor for The Brief, a legal magazine
published by Thomson Reuters. Prior to launching
the magazine, Pasha was the Islamic finance
correspondent at Thomson Reuters, based in Dubai.
She taught journalism at the American University in
Cairo and Pace University in New York. She was a
banking and legal reporter at CNNMoney.com,
covering the Supreme Court and the Enron trial.
Pasha was also a reporter at Dow Jones Newswires,
where she had a daily column in the Wall Street
Journal and appeared as a regular correspondent on
CNBC Asia, covering the ADR market. Her freelance
work has appeared in Quartz, The Daily Beast, USA
Today and The Dallas Morning News among others.
She has a master's degree in journalism from
Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and a
bachelor's degree in speech communication from
Pace University.

Prior to establishing MIIM Designs, Eskandari was the
Director of the American Institute of Architect
Associates. In 2012, MIIM Designs LLC was awarded
the "Faith and Form Award" from The American
Institute of Architects. The International Museum of
Women in San Francisco awarded MIIM Designs for
the "Sacred Space" exhibit, re-configuring gendered
spaces in religious architecture. Recently, MIIM
Designs was the architect for the new Children’s
Museum of Manhattan’s America to Zanzibar: Muslim
Cultures Near and Far exhibit. MIIM Designs currently
is working on projects in New York City, San
Francisco Bay Area, Accra, and New Delhi. Eskandari is a Rothschild Fellow at Cambridge Judge
Business School and graduated from Aga Khan
Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard + MIT.
She serves on the Board of Open Architecture
Collaborative and Harvard Iranian Alumni Association
and is an Advisor to Harvard's FDR Foundation,
CleanAcwa, and the 1947 Partition Archives. She is
Sadaf Baghbani immigrated to the United States
soon after the end of the Iran/Iraq War. She holds a
Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology and Political

McNair Scholar, an ACCESS Women in Science
Scholar, Desert News Foundation Fellow, and a
human rights writer with the Good of All Pendleton
Foundation. She has spent time in South Africa as
part of the US Department of Education Fulbright
Program for McNair Scholars where she conducted
independent research on skills development among
HIV+ men as well as development and grant
production for local charities throughout Southern
Africa. Sadaf's passion lies in philanthropy where,
after years of development work with philanthropic
initiatives around the US and abroad, helped with the
creation of a foundation for a Major League Baseball
player, as well as with members of the Qatari royal
family for both foundation and business
