Ross Orlando's Tahoe Spotlight
Lake Tahoe is once again the host
for the most prestigious and entertaining
Celebrity Golf Tournament in the world.
The 24th Annual American Century
Championship
Tournament
at
Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, July
16-21, is a perfect place to check out the
huge variety of celebs, have a cocktail,
eat some lunch, and enjoy the natural
beauty of the lake and surrounding
mountains. This golf competition is
mixed with fun and laughs with around
80 players. You'll see Charles Barkley,
John Elway, Jerry Rice, Aaron
Rodgers, Ray Romano, Shane Battier,
Stephen Curry, Ray Allen, Bode
Miller, Brett Hull, Goose Gossage,
Marshall Faulk, Jeremy Roenick,
Ozzie Smith, Michael Waltrip, Jack
Wagner, Kevin Nealon, Jim McMahon,
Anthony Anderson, Greg Maddux,
John Smoltz and Mike Eruzione to
name a few. Some new celebs this year
are Michael Phelps - 18 time Olympic
Gold Medalist, baseball great Chipper
Jones and from the Blue Collar Comedy
Tour, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill
Engvall. I have photo shot this amazing
event every year since 1990 and seen
an incredible list of celebrities over the
years having a great time in our town.
Mike Eruzione, the captain of the 1980
US Hockey Team, is one of the few that's
been invited every year since 1990. He
scored the winning goal against the
Soviet Union and went on to win the
Gold metal against Finland. Beating the
Soviet Union, legendary commentator
Al Michaels (who once played in the
celebrity golf) coined the phrase, "Do
you believe in miracles?", right before
Mike scored the winning goal. ESPN in
2008, voted it was the greatest highlight
of all time by the viewers. Eruzione told
me that if he didn't score that goal, he'd
probably be a truck driver the rest of his
life. "Miracle on Ice", what an amazing
story. The Korbel Long Drive contest
on Friday is fun to watch. NBC-TV
covers this spectacular event for all to
see Lake Tahoe's beauty. Harrah's is
the host hotel and Arthur Hervey at
Center Stage will have many celebs
singing with him. Enjoy the outdoor fun
at Edgewood Tahoe.
Harveys

Up", and she played music from Heart,
Foreigner, Joe Walsh and Led Zeppelin.
Her brother that sells merchandise out
front even sang a song with Gretchen
and that song is on her new CD that's
on her own label, Redneck Records.
She has fun on stage and is a great
performer. Next is Wayans Brothers
July 6th and Russell Brand July 27th.

Glaude, July 12th Too $hort, July 18th

Horizon has Illusion Fusion with Alex
Ramon. Harveys has The Improv with
host Howie Nave and new comics each
week. Cabo Wabo, Sammy Hagar's
place, has entertainment nightly.

And remember, Music fuels your
soul. Have fun, you're in Tahoe!
Tahoe's Shoreline Needs Your Help!
How can you help Keep Tahoe Blue? With the summer season in
full swing, Tahoe’s beaches and shoreline will be receiving a lot of wear
and tear. Beachgoers, paddlers, boaters, shoreline hikers and other
recreationists can help by packing out all trash (even if it isn’t your trash),
respecting wildlife and always cleaning up after pets.
There’s also a new way to protect Lake Tahoe while you play in
Lake Tahoe. The League to Save Lake Tahoe, also known by our slogan
“Keep Tahoe Blue,” has come up with a new volunteer program called
Eyes on the Lake, which recruits water lovers to help stamp out aquatic
invasive plants. These weeds clog boat propellers, impede clear views
of the lake’s bottom, and can create a more hospitable environment for
other invasive species that don’t belong (like those giant goldfish you’ve
been reading about in the news.)
"There's just too much water for us to survey to keep these weeds at
bay,” said Nicole Gergans, natural resources manager with the League.
“We need more ‘eyes on the lake,’ so we’re inviting the public to help us
locate infestations, small or large, while they enjoy a day on the lake.”
One main goal of the program is to identify and stamp out small
infestations before they grow large, which is a more cost effective
solution to controlling these invaders.
The League is hosting free training sessions this summer to educate
volunteers on how to identify aquatic weeds. To sign up to be a volunteer
and find out training dates, visit our website: keeptahoeblue.org/news/
events/
Eyes on the Lake is led by the League, in partnership with the
Tahoe Resource Conservation District and the Tahoe Regional Planning
Agency, as well as 40 other organizations, public and private, that make
up the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program.
The League hosts numerous other volunteer opportunities, like
beach cleanups, weed pulls, forest restoration and water quality
monitoring. To find out more, visit our volunteer page at keeptahoeblue.

Entertainment & Events
Summer 2013 has officially arrived,
and we’re so proud to bring you an
amazing line-up of entertainment for the
season. From major concert tours, to
comedy, to magic, there is something
special happening in Lake Tahoe for
everybody. What a line-up! In a nutshell,
The Wayan Brothers, The B-52’s and
KC & The Sunshine Band, Slightly
Stoopid and Atmosphere Bass Camp
2013 w/ Exicision, Adventure Club,
Seven Lions, The M Machine, and more,
Russell Brand, Whitney Cummings,
Rebelution, Matisyahu, Steve Martin,
and much more!
If you love comedy, then don’t miss
The Wayans Brothers featuring Shawn
and Marlon Wayans to the MontBleu
Theatre for a one-night only performance
on Saturday, July 6. The two youngest
brothers from the talented Wayans family
have made quite a career in comedy over
the past 2 decades as actors, writers,
and producers. These world-famous
comedians became a household name
starring in the 90s in the Emmy Award
winning sketch comedy TV series, “In
Living Color”. They went on to create and
star in “The Wayans Bros” sitcom, which
headlined the WB network lineup for 5
years. It was later sold into syndication
and was the very first WB TV show to
achieve this feat.
In the early 2000s,
the two were responsible for producing,
co-writing, and starring in the smash
blockbuster hits and award winning
films, Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2.
Recently, Shawn and Marlon have been
busy co-writing, producing, and starring in
the other box office hits and fan favorites
including, Little Man and White Chicks.
Marlon can also be found in the 2009
blockbuster film G.I. Joe: The Rise of the
Cobra. While these brothers are not on
the road performing their sell-out standup comedy, they are busy planning their
next big project. Don’t miss this one-night
only stand-up comedy performance live in
South Lake Tahoe!
PR Entertainment and MontBleu
are excited to bring two truly iconic and
legendary musical acts, The B-52s and
KC and the Sunshine Band to the
MontBleu Outdoor Event Center, for onenight only performance under the stars on
Sunday, July 14. Between “The World’s
Greatest Party Band” and “The Founder
of the Dance Revolution”, it is certain to
be an unforgettable evening of music and
dancing. With a career spanning over
30 years, over 20 million albums sold,
and timeless hits such as “Love Shack,”
“Roam,” “Rock Lobster,” and more, it
is no wonder the B-52s continue to be
among the most cherished rock stars
ever. Grammy Award winning KC and
the Sunshine Band’s music is among the
most recognizable with songs featured in
over 200 motion picture films as well as
every major sporting event in the world
including the Super Bowl, World Series,
and The World Cup to name a few. With
smash hits including “Get Down Tonight,”
“That’s The Way (I Like It),” and “Boogie
Shoes,” it will be impossible not to tap
your feet and start grooving to the music.
One of the biggest shows of the
concert series will undoubtedly be
Slightly Stoopid and Atmosphere’s
Kickin’ Up Dust tour, July 18, along with
Tribal Seeds and The Grouch & Eligh. Tickets for this show are going super fast,
so get them while you still can.
A brand new event has been added
to this concert line-up, Bass Camp!! This
is an all-day/all-night Electronic Dance
Music Festival that will begin at 4p and
end in the outdoor at 11p, but stay tuned
for all-night after party information coming
soon. Headlining Bass Camp, EXCISION,
from British Columbia, will feature The
Executioner Video & Lighting Installation,
which is fresh off the heals of this years
Coachella Festival.
This massive
production coupled with the explosive
Excision set is like no other. A behemoth
production set-up and a true technological
breakthrough, “The Executioner” is
a video-mapping masterwork that
displays an impressive 420 square feet
of world-class, true-3D, video-mapped
animations guaranteed to daze and
amaze fans. “The Executioner” will
include the greatest projector available
in the world and cast some of the
most intricate and amazing animations
available today onto a mechanical
bunker in which EXCISION will perform
a live set that will simultaneously sync
audio with video using groundbreaking
technology. EXCISION is revving
up the audio experience and inviting
back Canada’s PK Sound—which
worked with him on the sold-out 2012 “X
Tour”—as the official audio provider for
the “Execution Tour,” packing more than
100,000 watts of full-on bone-crushing
sound.
The line-up for Bass Camp 2013
will also include some of the biggest
names in EDM, including Adventure
Club, a Dubstep Duo hailing from
Montreal. Seven Lions, from Santa
Barbara, one of the most truly innovative,
versatile, and sought-after producers
in all of dance music; it is undeniable
that Seven Lions is on an exponential
rise to international prestige. The M
Machine from San Francisco will be
bringing their “Live” set to Bass Camp this
year. The M Machine Live is made up
of Ben Swardlick, Eric Luttrell, and Andy
Coenen. The group has quickly risen to
prominence on the strength of their wholly
original and forward-thinking sound.
Fiasko Daniels, from San Francisco,
was born with Synesthesia, and has
always felt an unusually deep connection
with sound and music. An Insomiac
Discovery winner for EDC (Electric Daisy
Carnival), Fiasko is fresh off the release
of his debut EP which charted #2 on the
Beatport Top 100 Electro House charts.
With EDC already under his belt, and
a series of appearances in Lake Tahoe
for PostGlobe and #420, Fiasko Daniels
is quickly beginning a favorite among
EDM concert fans here in the West and
beyond. AndDrop! is the brainchild of
DJ Joe Wiseman and producers/brothers
Harris and Sylvain Kauffman. The San
Francisco based crew has made a name
for themselves in the Bay Area with their
fusion of hard-hitting electro, big builds,
and melodic breakdowns. From local
legends to internationally recognized
artists, AndDrop! was thrilled to see
their debut EP "Boogaloo" (Techibeats
Records) hit the #1 spot on the Beatport
Top 100 Releases chart in January 2013.
Later that month "Miles's Song (Original
Mix)" was featured by Chuckie on his
BBC 1 Radio residency. The Boogaloo EP
culminates four years of experimentation,
resulting in their unique take on emerging
dance genres. Showing love to the
local community of EDM DJ’s/producers,
Bass Camp is pleased to welcome Dead
Robot, and BeatKarma to this year’s
lineup who will open the show. Doors
open at 4pm. Tickets are just $35.00 in
advance, and available at all Ticketmaster
outlets, at the MontBleu Box Office or
online at Ticketmaster.com or TicketFly.

Comedy From The Mountain
Is it just me or has it felt like Tahoe
is in the midst of a humid renaissance?
I can’t remember being bitten so much
by mosquitos than this past month. I
forgot Tahoe even had mosquitos let
alone humidity for that matter. I forgot
about how hot it gets here too this
time of year. Then again we’re kind
of spoiled believing anything over
74 degrees is considered ‘hot’ when
in Phoenix at this time they tend to
average around 112 degrees and just
down the mountain triple digits as well
so no, not complaining.
Speaking of hot, how did we
manage to get both John Caponera
and Carrie Snow on the same bill?
‘Cap’ (as we affectionately refer to
him as) is a favorite up here and he
likes to include the whole family when
he comes up here. I mean, why not?
The kids are on summer vacation and
since dad only has to work less than
an hour a night that’s more time with
the family. John was in Showtime’s
“The Godfathers of Comedy” and has
also been on “The Good Life,” hosted
Comedy Central’s “Jocks” and ESPN’s
“Talk II.” He guest-starred on NBC’s
long running hospital drama, “ER,“in
addition to “Love & War,” “Blossom”
and one of my favorite cable shows,
“Tales From The Crypt” on HBO. One
would think that being a comic and an
actor would be enough to keep one’s
plate full right? Not with Caponera. He
also does incredible voice impressions
tap into his love of sports. ‘Cap’ (that’s
we affectionally call him) does some
of the best voice impressions when
it comes to sports announcers. He
can thank his upbringing in Chicago
for that. What is definitely one the
highlights of his act is recreating the
sounds and mannerisms of the late,
great Chicago Cub’s announcer,
Harry Caray. But Cap goes beyond
just impersonating him. He places him
in these unorthodox, crazy situations
while broadcasting the sports event
and as wild as it may seem probably
could have happened for real. You
have to see it to really appreciate the
bit. My other favorite voice he does is
that of Vin Scully, the long time voice
for the LA Dodgers. Also on the bill
is the aforementioned Carrie Snow.
she had a one-woman show called,
“7000 Sailors Can’t Be Wrong” which
was my first introduction to her. Her
first big break came as a writer for
Rosanne Barr. First it was helping out
her stand up and that lead to writing
for Rosanne’s very popular (and at
times volatile) television sitcom of
the same name. This segued into
three seasons as the Story Editor
on “Roseanne”where Carrie ran her
own “joke room.” She also gueststarred on the sitcom as well. Carrie’s
writing style in addition to her stand
up is smart. She takes her time with
the joke be it quick punch to the gut
or as a story with a funny conclusion
which are my favorites. I love her
observations and take on life coming
up with some very astute lines. One
of my favorite sayings from her is
this: “Having a male gynecologist
is like going to an auto mechanic
who doesn't own a car.” I know! Her
writing is very much her own but as
mentioned will share with others such
as the time she wrote the copy for the
MTV Music Awards for the monologue
and also wrote sketches for Saturday
Night Live when Roseanne hosted
it. It’s great having both Carrie and
Scott together . Consider this week
a double-headlining show happening
July 10th through the 14th.
Another great line-up we have is
Michael Pace and David Gee. Pace has
been on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,”
the Emmy nominated “Comic Relief” (also
on HBO) and performed at HBO’s Aspen
Comedy Arts Festival and has no stock in
HBO whatsoever. He’s been on TBS, PBS
and the nationally-syndicated “Comics
Unleashed” and “Bob and Tom Show.”
You’ve probably also seen him on A&E's
“Evening at the Improv” as well as on
Showtime’s (What? Not HBO?) “Comedy
Club Network.” The Los Angeles Times,
Chicago Tribune and Denver Post has
described Pace as an “expressive, natural
performer,” a “chameleon mastering
everyday characters,” with the “wellscrubbed look of a mischievous boy-nextdoor with perverse habits.” Like myself
Pace has performed overseas entertaining
our troops numerous times in Iraq, Kuwait
and Afghanistan. Working with Pace is
David Gee who is the perfect choice to
have paired with Mike Pace. People still
talk about the special he did with Rita
Rutner on Showtime’s “Rita Rudner And
3 Potential Ex-Husbands.” The reaction
from the audience after hearing Gee’s
jokes was great. What a perfect venue too
filmed at the California Theatre in San
Bernardino in front of a sold out crowd
of 1700. Gee (who dropped the ‘k’ for
professional reasons) is without a doubt
one of the best host and emcees in the
business and it was Gee who mentored
me when I first got the gig as host/emcee
for The Improv starting in Reno some
fourteen years ago before coming up to
the Lake in 2001. He’s very gracious that
way and if I mess up now you know who
to thank. In addition to his recent stint
on Showtime David has also appeared
on “The Tonight Show,” was a semifinalist on ABC’s “The Next Best Thing,”
“Access Hollywood,” “Entertainment
Tonight” and, as mentioned earlier is
always asked to be the host for numerous
Howie Nave
fundraisers, celebrity golfing events and
even memorial services. I might add too
Gee isn’t bad at writing poetry (okayhilarious poetry) that, if we’re lucky finds
their way into his stand-up routine. He is
by far the most well respected host in the
business. Pace and Gee together July 17th
through the 21st.
Howie Nave is the host/emcee/
manager of The Improv @ Harveys every
Wednesday through Sunday and also
hosts his own morning show (“Howie’s
Morning Rush”) on KRLT 93-9 The Lake
M-F 6-10am which also streams online
so you can log on anywhere all over the
planet and catch Howie’s radio show. He
also writes a weekly comedy column for
Action Magazine. You can follow him on

Fly Fishing
Summer is here and the fish are
waiting and eating of course! There might
not be as much water this year but the
fish don’t seem to mind yet, look for things
to slow as we get closer to the month of
August. Stillwater fishing might be our
only savior. Check these places out for
now all of which are fishing pretty well!
East Carson River Fishing Report
The catch and release section
below Hangman’s Bridge: Prime time
on the East Carson River! The flows are
perfect and the fish are looking up, the
further downstream you get the better. The
PMD’s, Drakes, Caddis, Yellow Sallies and
Stones have been coming off throughout
the day. The evening hatch has been the
best with PMD’s. The fish seem to move
quite a bit and are not always in the same
places as the week before, look for them
in faster water as things warm up.
Above Hangman’s Bridge: Fishing
well from Hangman’s Bridge up to the
Highway 4 Bridge. Look for areas where
the stocking truck can get to and there
should be fish! Hatches have been good
with PMD’s, Caddis, Little Yellow Sallies,
Stones and Ants. Fish a Stimulator with a
dropper Nymph or pull a Bugger for best
results. The Resort areas as well as the
Campgrounds have been good. Look for
fish above the Highway Four Bridge as
well and if you want more of a wild trout
experience fish above Wolf Creek in the
Backcountry!
West Carson River Fishing Report
Perfect shape for now but expect
the flows to subside soon which could
make for tough fishing. The Pocket Water
sections in the Canyon are fishing the best
from about Sorenson’s down stream to
the Woodfords area. The meadow has
been good but with the lower flows the fish
tend to be spooky. There is a lot of Little
Cutthroat in the system with a few bigger
Rainbows planted by Alpine County.
PMD’s, Yellow Sallies and a few Green
Drakes as well as Beetles and Ants on
the surface. Subsurface: Copper Johns,
Flashback PT’s, Yellow Sally Nymphs and
Buggers. The Blue Lakes road area can
be a lot of fun for smaller fish!
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report
Above the 267 Bridge: Flows are in
prime shape and the fishing is good. Look
for Yellow Sallies, Stones, Caddis, PMD’s
and Green Drakes. The evening hatches
of Caddis have been wonderful until dark!
Streamers will take a fish or two as well
especially early or late in the day.
Year round section (CA) below
267 Bridge: As the upper sections, the
flows are great for this time of the year
and should stay that way for the month
of June into July. Golden Stones, PMDs,
Yellow Sallies, Caddis, Green Drakes and
Crawdad imitations. The dry fly fishing has
been great some days and the Nymphing
good. The Glenshire area, Below Prosser
Creek and just above the Boca inlet have
been good. Surprisingly the fishing in the
Herschdale area has been good as well
even with the higher flows. The word is
the canyon section has been great with
Caddis into the evenings.
Indian Creek Reservoir
Fishing has been doing well with
Buggers, Calibaetis, Damsels and Blood
Midges. Look for the evenings when the
wind dies down for some good action
on the surface with Blood Midges and
Damsel Nymphs. Buggers in Black, Olive
and or Brown have been working well.
Float tubing gives you the best opportunity
Victor Babbit
and the shallow end seems to fish the best
this time of year.
Caples Lake - Things have been
getting better lately with quite a few fish
being taken around the Woods Creek
Area. Big ugly dries or pulling streamers
are your best bet. Renting a boat and
accessing the Emigrant bay area is a lot
of fun and the fishing can be great back
there. The Dam area as well as the
Spillway tend to fish well for all of the
stockers that have been put in lately and
a lot of them are huge!
Red Lake Fishing Report- Float
tube the upper end for best results. San
Juan Worms hung under an indicator with
a Copper John or Blood Midge Dropper
will work well. Trolling Buggers will take
a few as well. Try the Dam Area during
the evenings for fish rising to Para Adams
if you can keep them away from the Bats!
Have fun fishing the Tahoe Area and
if you need additional information on these
fisheries or any others in the Tahoe area,
stop by the shop and we will set you up with
whatever you might need for a wonderful
day of fishing! Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters
has Guides available for fly fishing and or
Spin Fishing for the Half, ¾ or Full Day.
