A HISTORY
The most brilliant innovation is one that provides a solution before others even recognize a need. That’s what happened when the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) opened its doors in 1977. Despite decades of overwhelming
popularity, the electric guitar had been virtually ignored by college-level music programs. GIT provided exactly the
kind of education guitarists everywhere had been dreaming about, and virtually overnight it became the number-one
destination for serious guitarists throughout the world.

in non-performing music industry fields
including Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist Development,
Guitar-Making, and Film. Program lengths
vary from two quarters/30 units to three
quarters/45 units depending on the area of
emphasis, and may be taken alone or combined with Performance programs to earn
an Associate Degree.

MI’s world-renowned performance-based
contemporary music training is combined
with comprehensive studies in theory, ear
training, music history, arranging, composition, conducting, music production, and
general education. Optional minors are
offered in Music Industry Studies and Audio Production.

merges four quarters of instrument training with two quarters of intensive studies
in Music Business, Audio Engineering,

The Drum Program at MI (originally the Percussion Institute of Technology) has earned
its reputation as the world’s foremost contemporary drum school based on a unique
system of performance-based education.
During classes, labs, and private lessons you
absorb each new technique or concept with
your drumsticks in hand, and the learning
cycle isn’t complete until you put it to work on
the drum kit under actual performing conditions.

hands-on playing opportunities for drummers,

A professional contemporary keyboardist is a multi-tasker by definition. Playing the keys is only the beginning – a new generation of technology behind the keys has multiplied the keyboardist’s role to include composer, arranger, engineer, and producer. The electronic keyboard is a
