LinkOne Information Required When Changing Computers –
LinkOne WinView (Version 5)
This document is intended to assist users to move their LinkOne software to another computer,
providing information on how to access the configuration, settings, licenses and other information on
your old computer to transfer to your new LinkOne WinView installation on a new computer.
LinkOne WinView
There are a number of configuration areas that you may wish to migrate such as book settings,
licenses, notes and more. Below is a list of each of these settings, and how to obtain this information
from your current installation.
NOTE: Ensure that all saved information is stored on a portable device to enable
easy access for implementation on the new computer.
NOTE: LinkOne WinView can operate with side-by-side versions installed on one
computer. If installing another version, the settings can be set on installation to
migrate to the new version.
Books
The Books settings show the layouts that have been defined for different areas of LinkOne WinView.
Typically most of these are by the default settings, but in the case of some integrated solutions, there
may be some additional configuration pieces that you may need to transfer.
The steps to review your book settings and capture any of this information are shown below.
1. Open LinkOne WinView.
2. Go to Tools > Configuration.

3. Go to Books in the menu. If the layout is not default, take a screen capture and save.
4. Select the Books > Layouts > Folders in the menu. Take a screen capture and save.
5. Work your way down the Books menu, taking screen captures of each pane that is not set at
default and saving.
Libraries
Libraries are the defined locations of your LinkOne books. These locations must be defined in order to
gain access to your LinkOne books.
The steps to review your library settings and capture any of this information are shown below.

2. Go to Tools > Configuration.
3. Select Libraries in the menu and take a screen capture of the Libraries pane and save. If
necessary, expand the pane so that the whole library path is visible.
4. Check Configuration Manager and Content panes and screen capture if required.
Licences
These include both your installed software licenses and any security keys that may be required to view
your LinkOne books. Without these you may not have access to all the data you did before.
The steps to review your Licences settings and capture any of this information are shown below.
1. Open LinkOne WinView.
2. Go to Tools > Configuration.

3. Select Licences in the menu and expand the Licences pane so that the entries are visible. Take
a screen capture for reference.
4. Double click on each licence / security key to show the Edit Licence pane. Copy the whole
licence number, including the <>. Paste into Notepad or Word and save.
5. If there are any licences under Common Licences, double click on each licence and copy the
whole licence number. Paste into Notepad or Word, noting that they are Common Licences
and save.
Notes
Notes are sometimes supplied with your LinkOne books or used internally to communicate important
information associated with your LinkOne books to all users.

4. Take a screen capture of the Note Defaults pane and save.
Selection List
This information defines the fields that appear in your selection list and any configured formatting.
Some integrated solutions may have unique selection lists defined.
The steps to review your Selection List settings and capture any of this information are shown below.
1. Open LinkOne WinView.
2. Go to Tools > Configuration.
3. Take a screen capture of the Selection List pane and save.

4. Take a screen capture of the Folders pane under Selection List and save.
Viewer
This information can include any unique information and settings for your installation. Typically most
of this information will be default. However, if you have any plugin’s installed, defined books to be
opened on start-up or any advanced LinkOne WinView settings, this section will contain the required
settings.
The steps to review your Viewer settings and capture any of this information are shown below.
1. Open LinkOne WinView.
2. Go to Tools > Configuration.
3. Take a screen capture of the Viewer pane and save.

4. Take a screen capture of the Internet Connection pane and save.
5. Take a screen capture of each of the Navigation History, Plugins (ensure all the plugins on the
pane are recorded), Position Format, Recent Books and Window Caption panes and save.
Start-up Behaviour
This information can include any unique information on defined books to be opened on start-up.
There are a number of options available, so it is important to capture the Start-up Behaviour preferred
for your installation.
Browse for a Book is the default setting. Other settings available are shown in the screen capture
below.

Setting Preferences on the New Computer
It will be necessary to transfer the configuration settings to the new Computer.
Open LinkOne WinView and go to Tools > Configuration.
Work down the menu, matching settings to the relevant saved screen captures.
Licences
Select the
button at the top of the Licences pane.
Paste the licences copied from the saved Notepad or Word file.
NOTE: When pasting the Viewer licence into the Licences pane, ensure that the
complete licence is copied and pasted.
