Where there is love
there is peace.
Internal peace brings
External Justice.
Peace makes your
heart and face beautiful.
Peace symbolizes
perfection.
Peace in heart is
peace in world.
Nothing but spiritual
understanding between one nation and
another, and between
rich and poor, will produce goodwill and
thus bring real peace
and prosperity.
Dear All,
„Omega strives to produce youngsters who are balanced, with soul, mind and
body working in unison, with soul guiding the mind in its activities and the body acting under the guidance of the mind.‟ is our founders vision for the school. It happens
as we create a peaceful environment both inside and outside. We must remember and
remind ourselves few lines of former President of our country Dr APJ Abdul Kalam
which he shared in European Union Parliament, „Where there is righteousness of the heart…
there is beauty in the character, Where there is beauty in the character… there is harmony at house

and small problems,
for issues concerning
the treatment of people are all the same.
In this issue of our Value Based Spiritual Education (VBSE) Newsletter we bring the
activities and students contributions in learning and experiencing peace.

My neighbor Aditya who is younger to me always snatches
away all crayons from me and pulls my hair. One day he felt
that I was hurt with his actions and came to me for forgiveness. My father has always taught me to respect elders and
love those who are younger than me. And Aditya also bought
a sorry card for me. Seeing that I forgave him. Now I love
him so much.

Peace is soft, sweet and silent

It helps us refrain from being violent.
A garden of flowers reflect a lot of peace.
To obtain peace you need no fees.
Meditation is a way to peace.
In your heart, it opens locked doors with special keys.
Peaceful images and pictures in my mind
A place of silence which I could never ever find.
I as a pigeon, free to express my peace
You could even show it by planting more trees.
The lands of flowers, the lands of fun
Would definitely need peace as we need the sun.

Mahatma Gandhi
I read that Mahatma Gandhi
said that be honest, if you did
a big mistake accept it.
One day I was playing, by
mistake I broke a glass. My
friends ran away but I did not
run because I thought about
Gandhiji‟s „Be Honest‟.
I went and said, Sorry and
they said that whenever you
get money you have to pay.

Students taking the Peace Walk and Hand
Written Peace Slogans in Kolapakkam
Peace in heart brings
peace in the world. This
was the message from our
students of 7th and 8th std
as they took out a Peace
Walk around local community near the school. Nearly
400 students took part in
the Peace Walk as a part of their Value Based Spiritual Education (VBSE)
instilling in the young minds and local community an awareness on Inner
Peace. Students also distributed hand made greeting cards with message of
peace in heart, among local community and residents.
They held hand written chart papers with Inner Peace message as they walked
around the residential areas. Earlier in the school, the Correspondent flagged
off the start of Peace Walk with a talk on the importance of Inner Peace. The
Senior Principal briefed the students on the road safety and the Head of the
VBSE Dept. spoke on the value of Inner Peace among the students. The local
administration along with police provided their kind support and co-operation
during this peace walk..
“We started the peace walk with lot of joy. On the road a man asked what we are doing, I said „We are spreading awareness on
Peace‟. He replied to me that „Yes, it is good when everywhere peace is there, people can enjoy the sound of nature, birds twittering,
water flowing. So please continue to do this. He appreciated me and also the school for preparing a very good theme. I felt very
thankful to the school‟. Enjoy peace and you will be happy.” —Roopak VIII E
“We walked with quotes like „Let there be peace in the hearts!‟. We gave peace cards to aunts, children and nearby people. Though I
felt irritated during the walk, now I feel proud of marching to spread peace in the surroundings. When completed I felt very happy,
peaceful and proud of myself as we have spread the greatest power of the world „PEACE‟.”— S Lipi Sugan VIII E
“I realized that when we started, people would also get inspired and join us to spread awareness around about inner peace. Not only
the students but also the people showed great interest and enthusiasm. It was great to see people learning something from this peace
walk. It was really an inspiring and peaceful experience.”—Krishna Negi VIII E
One of the main things that we learnt in this topic is, 'Think Globally Act Locally'. This is the basic for everything. Any problem or
issue that occurs in our society is usually a problem that prevails globally. Misunderstanding, inequality, prejudices, etc bring the
division of the society. Only continuous, tireless and true work that is against social evils can eradicate or wipe them off our
society. We can attain equality, love and wealth through compassion and compromise.
S Vignesh VIII A
I want to ……..
Do something different for my country
Be responsible for my country
Learn to be together
Understand others
Respect our national anthem
Create a sense of brotherhood
Learn not to discriminate between anyone.

Peace is inside our heart
Not only in the place where we live
But all human have peace in their hearts.

My happiest moment of peace was during
a church mass on Christmas. I felt really
peaceful and happy to have all my family
together at one place.
And it also felt really good to wish everyone at midnight. I had a really peaceful
night that I will remember forever. This is
one of my best experiences of peace.
A Nivedha Angelin VIIIB
I experience happiness and peace when I
go to a mosque and pray to God. When I
try to connect with God I get inner peace.
I feel so light and spiritual. I feel that a
very strong and spiritual power inside me.
It feels like the best place on earth. I
forget all my worries and only feel like
enjoying the inner happiness and peace.
Nasrin Nesha VIII B
In spite of so much wealth in some parts of the world, peace is wanting. The
external means are adopted in vain for earning peace. Unless we turn ourselves
inwards, seeking peace, we cannot have even a grain of it.
Babuji
The happiest moment of peace was
when I spent a week in Satkol. The
place was extremely quiet because
every single human believed that
Silence is the language of Gods. And
every evening there used to be Golden
Silence and the best part was the
nights, normally I do not get sleep that
easily but there I slept soon after the
9‟O clock prayer and I woke up in the
morning I saw the most beautiful
mountains, Himalayas. That day was
very peaceful and happy.

During summer vacation I went to Sai Baba Temple at Mylapore. I prayed to God and came to
meditation hall. While meditating my mind was slowly getting calm and calmer.
After sometime we got up and went outside. My mind became more light and
it is the happiest moment of peace. Because of the peace, I got my tensed
mind to be peaceful. So I am going to temple frequently to make my mind
peaceful. I believe that is the best moment of peace I get.

Once I saw some boys crowded at one place with sticks and I just wanted to
know what was going on. I came to know that they were beating a small rat, as
I was the oldest over there I had the courage to scold them and so I scolded
them and carried the rat in my hand and left him near his hole.

I celebrate my birthdays in Prema Vasam (A home for differently-able children
in Gerugambakkam), for the past few years with the children there. It‟s our

Students in the Ashram getting an experience of community service
Students of class IX were taken to do service in Sri Ram Chandra Mission Ashram at
Manapakkam. They were divided into different groups and were given various tasks in
the Ashram. This was to give the students a spirit of working in team, knowing what it
is to work for a community cause, sense of cleanliness and to respect the dignity of
labour whatever work one may be engaged in. It was amazing to see the spirit with
which the students performed this activity. Their feedbacks below, show that they
opened their heart and mind to such activities.
The job was to pull out the unwanted grass. After sometime, I realized how hard it was
to do these types of work and I also realized that farming was not an easy job and how
a farmer struggles to survive doing these types of work. Just to do it for half an hour I
was tired but they do it all day, so in this trip I realized that farming was really hard and this activity was really nice experience which I
would like to do again.

We experienced the joy, happiness and satisfaction in cleaning the solar panel in the terrace. At first, we were wondering how do we
clean such a huge solar panel. Then, at last we were amazed that we have finished the work so quickly and easily. We learnt one
thing—if we need to finish a work successfully, we have to follow “Work like playing and Play like working”. Our instructor‟s
friendliness and advice helped us very much.
M Venkatakrishna IX D
I felt pleasure working with nature. It was an enjoyable day. Now I know the pain of the gardener, because I did one of his jobs.
Shiv Prasad IX E
I was asked to do mopping. It was a nice experience as it gave me a feeling that
whatever job one does, it should satisfy oneself. One should do it wholeheartedly.
I wish this would happen again.

5th Std students with Peace Cranes, before sending them to Japan
Sadako Sasaki inspired our
children, so much that they too
wanted to make 1000 cranes to
promote peace in the world. As
they were doing, it brought peace
and unity among themselves
while making it. The connection
between paper cranes and peace
can be traced back to a young
girl named Sadako Sasaki, who
died of leukemia ten years after
the atomic bombing in Japan. These 1000 cranes made by our children as
symbol of peace have been sent to Peace Memorial in Japan. WEBSITE

It‟s a moment when I see you, It‟s a moment when I feel you
When will the moment come that you bless me?
Peace is parents and teachers for me.
I love them so much
They help us in many ways
We love each other, take care of each other.
If I ask my parents to take me anywhere, they will immediately take me there. I love them so much, they also love
me.

Difference is of the essence of humanity.…The
answer to difference is to respect it. Therein lies a
most fundamental principle of peace: respect for
diversity.
Peace of mind is that mental condition in which you have accepted the worst.

Among many VBSE videos seen, the
one which really inspired me was the
video which showed a man who
doesn‟t have a leg but even then
when he heard the national anthem
he really puts an effort to stand up
straight. This creates the worth of
nationalism before our country.

Wanted - Real Citizens…
You are born as an individual
Now grow into a person
For an individual loves himself
A person loves his family
Don't remain only a person
But grow into a citizen
For a citizen loves his country
Don't remain only a citizen
But be an enlightened citizen
For an enlightened citizen
Serves his country
Don't remain only
An enlightened citizen
But be a spiritual citizen
For spirituality will expand
your heart opening the
doors to peace and the freedom.

I was inspired by Dr. Abdul Kalam. When he was a small kid his

VBSE has played a crucial role in maintaining self discipline for
every individual. We will notice its importance when we become
global citizens. We notice that people who like spiritual life always
excel as they keep their work and personal life balanced. We are
lucky to have VBSE which sets a base for a child and teaches him
how to be a good citizen. VBSE has played an important role in
my life. According to me a person becomes a good citizen when
he voluntarily lets an ambulance pass through a traffic jam. That
will be the first lesson in humanity. VBSE has always been a true
friend who teaches me values.

won many cups and

win trophies. She succeeded in winning many tournaments. And
in badminton which is my favourite sport, she has won bronze
and silver medal at Olympics. She has lost tournaments but she
tries her best to win the next tournament. R Maheethaa VI C
VBSE teachers inspire me. They are kind. I always get motivated
by their talks. To be truthful, I look forward to having VBSE
everyday. Whenever there is VBSE, my mind becomes so peaceful that I forget all my worries and troubles. Once, there was the
music period after VBSE and there was an assessment. I was
very scared. After VBSE, I actually wanted to participate in the
assessment. I like Quiet Time in VBSE. It makes me feel one
with God. I want to thank VBSE Mam for correcting my bad
habits and attitudes.

Students of X std in action, Paying ‘A Tribute to Nelson Mandela’
Simple
Thoughts
Once there was a
man...
But one song isn't
enough
A Tribute to Nelson Mandela by 10th Std
Peace and Justice was the value for which 10th std students came
together to pay a rich tribute to Nelson Mandela on 28th of Jan.
The following activities were performed by students as a mark of
respect and remembrance to Nelson Mandela. Activities included
Speeches, Songs, Dance and a Poem on him titled „Simple
Thoughts‟.
Hero of a Million Hearts
A man may sacrifice what he wanted, but this man sacrificed what
he got, what he had. Everything that he dreamt of was nothing but
humanity which I admire. He is the cream of humanity and leadership. This man is none other, but Nelson Mandela. - Ajay Rangan
To Africa’s best man
He was an inspiration
Here is what I can
For many to unite their Nation
A tribute to pay
For his soul we pray today
Is too less for this day.
This his memory will lead us the way.
In prison he did stay
Nikhil Xavier John X E
To show us the way
Now I am finally living free Oh..
Now the world is empty
All we have is memories
Rest in Peace, Sleep well my Angel....
You showed the world, Never surrender
I will wait here forever...
You taught me to fight my own battles...
When I fall you pick me up
When I said my life was tough
You wipe my eyes and say dear one
So listen to me....listen to me...
These are simple thoughts only simple thoughts
These are simple thoughts that I have of you…
Simple thoughts, only simple thoughts...
This is all I got...
Sleep well my Angel...
-- Composed & Sung by students of X as a 'Tribute to Nelson
Mandela (Excerpts from the song)
Excerpts from a speech on Nelson Mandela by Yasasweni X A
The world is still mourning the loss of beloved South African leader, Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison fighting to dismantle the institution of racism and the system of apartheid.
He was given the name „Nelson‟ at the age of 7, when he attended primary school and was required to take on a „Christian Name‟.
Later in life, he was known by his clan (tribe) name „Madiba‟.
Mandela‟s patrilineal great grand father was ruler of the „Thembu‟ people in South Africa. His father was a local chief and counselor
to the monarchs.
Mandela had a life long love of gardening which he developed when he went to a boarding school. He used to involve in protests
against the anti-colonial parties and was expelled from University. He completed his degree from prison. Later he was given more
than 50 honorary degrees from Universities all over the world. He won the Nobel peace prize in 1993. His autobiography „Long walk
to freedom‟ was published in 1995.
We children must pay our heartfelt gratitude by following his quotes „Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to
change the world‟ and „It always seems impossible until its done‟.
A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet eaten in anxiety.

I am Bhavna, one of the
class 11 students who visited your school yesterday.
As promised I'm writing to
you today to express my
feelings about the trip.
Sitting in that classroom
and listening to you and
your wife Uma's life story
just left me speechless. It
was so inspiring to know
A wall with sand filled plastic bottles, paper made tables, and cycle pedaling to produce electricity.
that throughout your lives
be it school, college or
work life you both have managed to contribute so much to the society. Just the fact that you went to the people living on the
pipelines and cleaned their toilets, built roads with bare hands, cleaned various general hospitals, everything just struck my mind
as absolutely amazing. That really is genuine social work. And the fact that just few of your friends, saving money everyday
could slowly build a trust and just create wonders. It opened my eyes as to what one person or a few friends could do for the
society if they have the will. I would like to thank you so much for letting us students visit your school. It was the most different
environment I have experienced. All the new innovative sustainable techniques actually put to practice like the plastic bottle
walls, newspaper benches, window farming and the cycle powered computer lab! All that was in theory, actually seeing it in
practice really influenced us. Also the complete and holistic approach for the students' education. The thing that I guess touched
me the most is that everyone there who have almost nothing are doing so much to support the world. The children full of smiles
and the community now having work and three meals a day, really is a miracle. All this has inspired me also to take up some
time to contribute. All my birthdays I have decided to visit such schools or orphanages and spend time with them and giving
them gifts. Also our school is helping a local municipal school, and for that I'll volunteer to take remedial classes for their students. I also talked to my parents about this trip and we would all like to visit one day, if you'd like. I once again thank you for
giving all of us this great opportunity to face reality.
Love, Bhavna XI
Few global issues such as child labour, inequality, global warming, etc can
be reduced by implementing good solution in the area we live in. Gradually it enlarges and the total world will be happy. Citizenship is a word
which describes unity, relationship and responsibility of us for the
world....Its our thinking, if we think broadly the world is ours and we are
citizens of it. So, think broadly and let our ideas involve welfare for all.

How to bring harmony in your neighborhood/community?
I think most of harmony comes from self respect and understanding of all
the people in the community. A good community leader can also contribute a lot towards it. When people are deprived of their basic needs, we
can help one another irrespective of color or creed.

Students Inviting Vivekananda Ratham with our School Band and hand written Quotations
Teacher for all seasons
People in India and across the world celebrated the 150th birth
anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. As part of such celebration, Sri Ramakrishna Mission in Chennai started a Ratha Yatra
of Vivekananda. It started from Coimbatore and travelled
many thousand kilometers before reaching Porur. We welcomed with our band, K Vedhathri of VI H, enthralled public
with his Silumbum, Hand written posters made by our children
with Vivekananda's quotations were held high, one of our student read Quotations of Swami Vivekananda in public addressing system in Porur, Chennai.
Dear Friends,
Teachers like you, are very few
and hard to find too, who create our moments anew
Teachers paint our minds and guide our thoughts
Share our achievements and correct our faults.
Inspire the love for knowledge and truth as they light the path
We walk through our youth
For our futures brighten with each lesson they teach
Each smile they strengthen each goal they help to reach
For the dawn of each poet, each philosopher and king
Begins with a teacher and the wisdom they bring.
A teacher is like Spring, who nurtures new green sprouts.
Encourages and heads them whenever they have doubts.
A teacher is like summer whose sunny temperament
Makes study a pleasure preventing discontent.
A teacher is like autumn with methods mature and clear
Lessons of mellow colours and a happy atmosphere.
A teacher is like winter whose pristine pure life
Reflects calmness and serenity that helps in worldly strife
Teacher, you do all these things with a pleasant attitude
You are the teacher for all seasons and you have our gratitude.
I Pranav Murali being a Indian citizen of India would like all
schools from nook and corners of India to understand that our
future Indians need to be aware that being an Indian we should
also learn to respect and sing the National Anthem with pride
and patriotism with all our hearts. It is therefore our duty to be
familiar with the lyrics of our National Anthem and I also wish
that schools should have a choir rather than using audio tracks
so that children learn to sing and grow with patriotism. Even if
you are a migrant from another country please accept and respect our National Anthem. Pranav Murali VII B

is ours and we are citizen of it. So, think broadly and let our ideas give welfare for all.

A country's jewels are these five: unfailing health, Fertility, and
joy, a sure defense, and wealth. Thirukkural 738
Although in possession of all the

Kabir said of himself he was ‘at once the he child of Allah and Ram’.
IT is the mercy of my true Guru that has made me to know the unknown;
I have learned from Him how to walk without feet, to see without eyes, to hear
without ears, to drink without mouth, to fly without wings;
I have brought my love and my meditation into the land where there is no sun
and moon, nor day and night.
Without eating, I have tasted of the sweetness of nectar; and without water, I
have quenched my thirst.
Where there is the response of delight, there is the fullness of joy. Before whom
can that joy be uttered?
Kabîr says: "The Guru is great beyond words, and great is the good fortune of
the disciple."
Vision for the School - does it reflect a school having huge buildings, having a big laboratory or having a big infrastructure? Not at all. Great schools will have great teachers who love teaching and with
great vision. The vision should be to make a beautiful school, generating righteous youth, happy youth
who are professionally sound and morally upright. Hence, it should generate quality youth who are an
asset to the nation. Can the Schools create Califa Omar, Omar Khayyám, Al-Beroni, Mahatma Gandhi, Nobel Laureate CV Raman, a great mathematician Ramanujan, a great pain remover Mother
Theresa, a Poet Bharathiar or a great economist Amartya Sen. Can we generate the environment
needed for promoting the creativity leading to development of such type of personalities by the
school?
Normally, people will be discussing the performance of the school in terms of percentage of passes
with distinction. 100% will be considered outstanding. 90% very good, 80% good. This is the present
method of evaluation of the schools by the parents, by the govt by the management. I feel that there
is a need for paradigm shift in thinking in the evaluation process.
According to me, the best school is one where the students complete the school up to 10+2 after
25000 hours of education in the campus. The student has to become full-fledged responsi-
ble citizen for the nation who will be able to realize his dreams and not be frightened
of any problem. He should be groomed to be physically fit, academically sound with capacities for

research and inquiry, innovation, use of high technology, moral and entrepreneurial leadership. He
should be emotionally mature and spiritually awakened. For nurturing such an individual, what is the
role and what should be the vision of the teachers. Teachers should have just one vision statement,
that is "my vision is to give the students all-round capability, that is, always creative, observant, aim to
acquire knowledge continuously leading to the generation of an excellent performer with sterling character built with the unique tradition of the school". — Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of
India.
