Many, many thanks for all the greetings and cards that
were sent for my birthday. I am very thankful to our
heavenly Father for all the blessings we share. When we seniors venture to get
something – get there and forget what we came for – it is not a memory
problem; it is Mother Nature telling us that we need the exercise. May God
bless us all with peace, love, health and happiness.

ROSARY CORNER
“Confitemini Domino quoniam bonus, quoniam in saeculum misericordia
eius”; “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his steadfast love endures for
ever” (Ps 118: 1). So the Church sings on the Octave of Easter, as if receiving
from Christ’s lips these words of the Psalm; from the lips of the risen Christ,
who bears the great message of divine mercy and entrusts its ministry to the
Apostles in the Upper Room: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,
even so I send you.... Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any,
they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (Jn 20: 21-23).
Before speaking these words, Jesus shows his hands and his side. He points,
that is, to the wounds of the Passion, especially the wound in his heart, the
source from which flows the great wave of mercy poured out on humanity.
From that heart Sr. Faustina Kowalska, the blessed whom from now on we will
call a saint, will see two rays of light shining from that heart and illuminating
the world: “The two rays”, Jesus himself explained to her one day, “represent
blood and water” (Diary, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, p. 132). from the Homily
of John Paul II’s Canonization Mass of Sr. Mary Faustina Kowalska

Building a Church Home ~~Part I
“… the Catholic Society of Wilmington are intending to erect their new church
building …within the present year. Rev. Mr. O’Donohue, their Priest, stated to
the Society at his late visit, that it would be ready to be dedicated next winter.
He is reported to have stated further that he had funds enough at command
to build the house independently of the aid of the members here, but it would
not be proper to do so, inasmuch as all ought to have a pecuniary interest in
the building. He, accordingly, read to the Church as assessment which had
been made on each member, which he and she were expected to contribute
to the building fund. The well-known promptness and energy of that
denomination in Church building, is a sure guaranty that they will accomplish
whatever in that line they undertake. We take the liberty of suggesting in this
connection, to the Methodist Society here that if they do not bestir themselves
the new Catholic Church will, probably, be finished and dedicated before
theirs, although they have had a year’s start in the race.” From The Clinton
Republican Friday, January 26, 1866 under the headline “Another New Church
in Wilmington” and the archives of the Catholic Telegraph as transcribed by
Doris Pease, parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Wilmington,

Coming together to know God, Love God, and Serve God through Jesus Christ. We pray for a fruitful and joyfilled year walking together in faith, hope, charity, and mercy.
AN INTRODUCTION FROM OUR NEW DRE
Hello St. Columbkille Parishioners,
My name is Glenn Gigandet and I am your new Director of Religious Education! My family
and I are thankful and overjoyed at this opportunity to meet and serve all of you. I want to
share with you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Minster, Ohio, which is located an
hour north of Dayton. Minster is a hardworking, Catholic, and German community. Although
Minster is small, it has a predominantly Catholic identity. A sign of this is exhibited by the fact
that the public elementary school I attended gives children open release time every Wednesday
morning to attend Mass. This environment, coupled with my Catholic family, made for a strong upbringing in the
faith, and heavily influenced my decision to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS). At FUS I obtained
three degrees: Theology, Philosophy, and Catechetics. I have over 3 years of Religious Education work experience
in a parish and Catholic school setting. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Lara, nearly 4 years and have
three beautiful children (one still in the womb). Now Christ has called me here to serve you, and how blessed
I am to do so! Thank you for this opportunity and I pray God will bless all of you and your families!
In Jesus Christ,
Glenn Gigandet

FEASTS CELEBRATED THIS WEEK
February 7th – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading: Luke 5:1-11
This week’s Gospel takes us to a place where large crowds of people are pressing upon Jesus on account of their great need to have him in their lives. Some
may be there because they are sick, or blind, or crippled. Some may be there because they are hungry. We do know that they are all seeking Jesus and listening
to the word of God in his teaching. So, regardless of what other motivations might be in play, they are there receiving Jesus’ presence and his message. After
speaking with the crowds at length, Jesus tells Peter to let out into the deep for a great catch, and though Peter has been out “all night,” he obeys Jesus. We also
can sometimes feel as though we have tried and tried to fight on our own, without success. Yet, the presence of Christ in our midst is always like a morning light
which enables even the most unlikely victories to happen. In our work in defense of life and justice, do we always maintain a constant connection with Jesus,
or do we need him to bring that morning light of his presence back into our efforts?
Prayer: Today, pray for yourself, that you will become inspired to a deeper and more constant alertness of God’s presence in every moment.
Action: Sometime this week, sit down and drink a cup of coffee or tea with Jesus, just the two of you.
February 8 – St. Jerome Emiliani
St. Jerome Emiliani was born in Venice in 1486. He converted to Christianity after a rather dissolute youth, and dedicated himself to the service
of the poor, the sick, and abandoned children. He founded a congregation (Somaschi) which looked after the education of children, especially
orphans. He died of the plague while serving the afflicted.
February 8 – St. Josephine Bakhita, Virgin
Saint Josephine was a young Sudanese girl sold into slavery and brought to Italy where, while serving as a nanny, she was sent to live with the Canossian Sisters
of the Institute of the Catechumens in Venice. There she was baptized, and having reached majority age, was granted her freedom by Italian law. In 1896, she
joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity where she served humbly for the next twenty-five years. She died after a long and painful illness, during which she
would cry out to the Lord: “Please loosen the chains... they are so heavy!” Her dying words were “Our Lady! Our Lady!”
February 11 – Our Lady of Lourdes: World Day of the Sick
We commemorate the Virgin Mary’s appearance to Bernadette Soubirous, a 14 year old peasant girl. This created a stir in the town, and Bernadette
was asked to recant her story by the local officials. The parish priest told her to ask the lady’s name. Bernadette returned and said, “I am the
Immaculate Conception,” a title for Mary which Bernadette would not have known. The Blessed Mother asked for a chapel to be built on the site
of her appearance, Lourdes, France. Please visit fr.lourdes-france.org

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS
The next “Bundle Sunday Clothing Drive” is scheduled for the weekend of
April 30/May 1, 2016, before and after all Masses. We respectfully request
that you hold all items until the clothing drive. Please do not drop them off
at Church or the Parish Office. There will be a SVdP truck/trailer available in
the parking lot for drop-off on these dates. Because we do not have adequate
storage for these items, St. Vincent de Paul/St. Columbkille Conference
cannot accept donations of clothing, small furniture, or household items, with
the exception of our scheduled “Bundle Sunday” clothing drives. We do not
accept large furniture or appliances. As always, we thank our parishioners for
their outstanding support of our mission to serve the poor of Clinton County.
If you have any questions or you know of someone in need, we can be
reached at 937-382-6851.
NOMINATE A CHAMPION OF MERCY!

its Centennial Awards Dinner in October. The top award recipients will
receive $1,000.00 each, which will be donated to the charity of their choice.
Nominations are due by May 21, 2016 at ccswoh.org/ChampionofMercy.

BLESSINGS AND ANOTHER WORD FROM OUR
WORLD YOUTH DAY MISSION PILGRIMS…
Does it really take a trip across the ocean to help a young person grow closer
to our Lord? Of course not. But, World Youth Day does have an impact on
the lives of those that attend. For example, a young man from Italy attended
the World Youth Day in Denver when he was 19 and is now known as Father
Capucci, judicial vicar for the Archdiocese of Denver. Another example,
includes a young police officer who was assigned as a security guard for the
event and after hearing the Pope speak, he came back to his faith and asked
God to help him get his life in order. A few years later, his wife and children
became Catholic and he became a Deacon. Young people “see the face of God
in their brothers and sisters around the world” as stated by an attendee of
WYD in Spain. Finally, to share some research about the United States: 1 in 5
priests ordained in 2013 and 1 in 4 religious men and women who professed
vows participated in and had a good experience of World Youth Day. We hope
and trust that our WYD pilgrims will have a life-changing experience, too.
