FASHION EXPERT » LAURA “LULU” ROBINSON
How would you describe your personal style?
My style tells a story and my closet is a library. Every
piece in my wardrobe has a time and place that makes
waking up in the morning an opportunity to share finds
from my travels and mix them with fashions new and old.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
The Lexington Co-Op is one of my favorite places to
shop in the Elmwood Village. From local produce to
natural apothecary needs, the Co-Op has it all in a fun
and welcoming environment located right in the heart
of the Elmwood Village. I’m also a treasure seeker –
you can find midcentury modern at Ró and thrifty
vintage gems at Second Chic.
Second Chic, Blush and HerStory by Katie Ambrose.
Vera Pizzeria by Joe Cascio. LuLu Robinson by Nathan Peracciny.
What do you love most about
Buffalo?
The creative community. Mostly
everyone I know is up to their
elbows in paint, production and
preservation.
What’s Buffalo’s best-kept
fashion secret?
Bureau. This little secret isn’t something I can
keep to myself even if I want to. Aside from
Bureau being an incredible bespoke suit shop
for men and women, it’s more about the
experience that takes place the moment you
open its bright red door. You’re a pro shopper. Any shopping secrets
you would like to share?
Less is more. Allow yourself to be the most
important part of the look. The rest is just
for decoration. #NiagaraUSA

Hertel Avenue
Hertel Avenue is known for its amazing antique finds
and home décor stores. It’s crawling with an incredible selection of art-deco antiques, vintage goods and
contemporary furniture pieces and home accessories. A burgeoning shopping district with roots in the
Italian community, Hertel is a great place to eat,
chill, drink and soak up all the action.

What do you love most about Hertel?
It’s the quintessential place to go and spend
the day. Shopping local, visiting unique shops,
grabbing dinner from one of the many
amazing restaurants and ending with a
delicious cocktail!
What’s Buffalo’s best-kept fashion secret?
Hertel is filled with amazing interior design
shops. Moda Vintage happens to be one of
our favorites. Where else can you find
vintage Chanel boots alongside perfect
vintage bar cart essentials?
FASHION EXPERT » KARINA LOPEZ & CURT ROGERS
How would you describe both of your styles?
KARINA: I hate to use the phrase eclectic,
but it truly is. My style varies from girly-girl
one day, to jeans and a tee the other.
One thing I love to do is mix high with low.
I’ll wear my Balenciaga bag with my Target
flats any day!
CURT: I feel that my style is very versatile.
I try to keep it comfortable and being able to
transition it from the work place to a night out.
Sneakers are for the gym, keep your feet looking sharp!
Where are your favorite places to shop?
KARINA: Modern Nostalgia, of course. I also love to
stop into room Buffalo to shop for my perfect, future
home. You can’t beat the restaurants either!
CURT: Blue Collar and O’Connell’s are the men’s
stores in Buffalo which I absolutely love. Locally owned,
they’re both hidden gems that carry top designers for a
great price.
What’s your most-prized
possession in your
closet?
KARINA: I recently
purchased this adorable
elephant necklace from
Modern Nostalgia that
I’m not quite sure how
to take off!
CURT: Will Leather Goods Wallet and
Stubbs and Wootton smoking slippers, they’re
always a hit when I wear them out.
What’s your best cheap score of late?
We were on the hunt for that perfect vintage
bar cart. These days bar carts can range from
$800 to well over $1,000. We hit the jackpot with
our newest bar cart from Moda Vintage
for a whopping $200!

East Aurora
Not only can East Aurora stake a claim as the
birthplace of the American Arts & Crafts
Movement, thanks to the Roycroft Campus,
but EA also houses the headquarters of FisherPrice Toys. Now that packs a punch! Over the past
few years, East Aurora’s shopping district has quietly
expanded, with boutiques, restaurants, cupcake
cafés and much more to satisfy everyone’s palette.

FASHION EXPERT » VANESSA FROST
How would you describe your personal style?
I’ve spent a lot of time in NYC and California,
so I definitely have an urban edge mixed with a
California beachy feel. I’m obsessed with vintage
Coach bags, but still love my rainbows and Patagonia!
Where are your favorite places to shop?
West End Gallery has beautiful local artisan jewelry
and The Dress Shop has amazing vintage/boho pieces.
A perfect day in East Aurora includes:
Elm Street Bakery coffee, cocktails at Bar Bill with
friends, and a trip to the Knox Farm!
Dress Shop, Ooo La La Boutique, MUSEJar & Vanessa Frost by Katie Ambrose
Roycroft Campus by KC Kratt
Best places to grab a bite to eat?
Bar Bill, Rick’s and Elm Street Bakery.
Cool galleries to check out:
East Aurora has a very deeply rooted artistic
community, with loads of history. The best places
to check out would be the Roycroft Campus,
West End Gallery and red FISH Art Gallery!

Williamsville
First settled nearly 200 years ago, this village is a
destination for those who want to skip the malls
and prefer the allure of an old-fashioned Main
Street shopping experience. Williamsville has come
a long way from its historic roots, hosting a bevy of
boutiques, cafes, gift shops and restaurants. From
indulging in a few cocktails to shopping for your
favorite brand, it’s all just steps away from the
beautiful Glen Falls.

FASHION EXPERT » ERIN SCHERER
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is a mix of classic prep with a dash of boho.
I’m pretty minimal when it comes to accessories so I
tend to invest in staple pieces like a nice bag, leather
boots, and pearl earrings. Comfort is key for me.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
Tesori has one-of-a-kind pieces for home decor. I always find something I love at LeeLee, they have
great taste. What do you love most about Buffalo? I love how it’s a small city with lots of eclectic neighborhoods and a caring community. The close proximity of these neighborhoods make it so easy to get
around on foot or bike. Being so close to Lake Erie
and the Niagara River is such a treasure, especially in
the summer!
What’s Williamsville’s best-kept fashion secret? I think the key to a good outfit is a good foundation; Blum’s has the best selection of women’s undergarments, not to mention bathing suits and pj’s.
Bee Maternal is a new boutique that has not only
maternity wear but beauty products and classes for
the moms-to-be.
You’re a pro shopper. Any secrets you would
like to share? Visit your favorite shops often! When new apparel
comes in there are only a few sizes available so make
sure to shop often. Get to know the shop owners,
as they get to know you and your style they can
recommend pieces.
All photos by Katie Ambrose
Favorite places for a drink?
Trattoria Aroma on Main serves up a great cocktail
and has a fantastic wine selection. The Eagle House
always has craft beers on draft. A perfect day in Williamsville includes: Breakfast at Break’n Eggs Creperie, followed by
exploring Glen Falls with a black raspberry ice cream
MUSEJAR
from Sweet Jenny’s.
Who serves the best Village grub? Creekview serves up a great meal every time I’ve
been. Billy Bar, a new place from the owner of
Tabree, has Williamsville’s only raw bar, and the
charcuterie plate is excellent. Glen Park Tavern
also has a mean beef on weck sandwich! VILLAGE ARTISANS

FIRST FRIDAY
Allentown
With cool vibes dating back to the 60s, this quaint
historic neighborhood is a perfectly quirky spot with
a local vibe. Filled with bars featuring live music,
trendy restaurants, local art galleries, antique shops,
bookstores and boutiques, Allentown offers an
off-the-beaten path look at Buffalo’s indie culture.

INDIGO ART GALLERY
Best places to grab a bite to eat?
Cafe 59 is a good lunch spot for coffee and a
sandwich. The patio at Cantina Loco for a Spicy
Margarita and dinner with friends.
What is Buffalo’s best kept fashion secret?
Studio Hart Gallery on Allen has a great selection
of local artist-made jewelry.
FASHION EXPERT » AMY HARTMAN
How would you describe your
personal style?
My style is art inspired. I love to
mix the pieces. My typical outfit is
a collage of patterns, unique color
combinations, handmade and vintage.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
I love all the great vintage shops on Allen.
A perfect day in Buffalo includes:
An evening walk to enjoy the historic architecture,
a First Friday gallery crawl in Allentown, including
checking out the new street art murals. Stumbling on
one of the many music and literary events going on
any night of the week.
What does your current fashion wish list
consist of?
I am looking for vintage dresses from Latin and South
America, wool plaid, items with wood details, and
ALWAYS vintage modernist fabric and accessories.
Where do you love to shop in Buffalo?
Elmwood Village Fabrics and Hyatt’s for DIY
supplies and, of course, all the vintage shops.
Best cheap score of late?
A great pair of hammered metal earrings from an
artist trunk show at The Dress Shop for $25.
Do you have any particular shopping strategies?
Try looking in shops you might not normally shop
in. A mix of high and low end pieces allows for the
occasional splurge. Don’t pass up one of a kind
pieces that you love. Tell shop owners what you are
interested in. Many times they have more selection
than what is out, or they know where to find it.

ANGEL TO
APPLE
Hop on the I-190 N in downtown Buffalo and head
to the elegant Village of Lewiston, located on the
lower Niagara River, just minutes from the Falls.
Lewiston is dotted with an amazing array of eateries,
and inviting shops. Shop, stroll and enjoy the
atmosphere that fills this quaint little village,
and do it with a delicious custard in hand from
Hibbard’s – believe us, it’s worth the drive.

FASHION EXPERT » SOPHIA SMITH
How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my style as classic with a dramatic
twist. I LOVE color and am not afraid of wearing
something a little bit over the top.
Where are your favorite places to shop
in Lewiston?
My favorite places to shop are the antique stores
in Lewiston like Antique to Chic, because you can
always find something unique and special.
Angel To Apple, Antique to Chic, DiCamillo’s And Sophia Smith by Katie Ambrose.
Center Street by Rhea Anna.
A perfect day in Lewiston includes these
three things:
A sail on the gorgeous upper Niagara river, a picnic
with champagne, brie, grapes and olives, and attending
or having a fun cocktail party at night.
Best place to grab a bite to eat?
Without question, my favorite place to dine in
Lewiston is Carmelo’s - the food is always scrumptious, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and you
may bring your favorite wine for a small corkage fee.

This gift shop is a true extension of the gallery, offering a
broad range of work by local artists. While most museum
gift shops are filled with knick-knacks and memorabilia, the
Burchfield’s shop is filled with work by local artists. There
are some seriously cool, collectable items to be found.
The museum itself is known for showcasing cutting-edge
artists and exhibitions, and the creativity obviously doesn’t
stop at the art.
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! The Zootique is full of
animal-themed items from around the world, as well as
Buffalo Zoo branded T-shirts, sweatshirts, stuffed toys,
postcards, calendars, mugs and educational toys.
A Zootique gift can be the perfect way to remember your
day at the third oldest zoo in the United States, which is set
within the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed Delaware Park.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff estate, situated on the
Lake Erie shore, was the former summer home to one of
Buffalo’s prominent families. At its gift shop, browse through
hundreds of Frank Lloyd Wright and arts and crafts style
items, including necklaces, apparel, household décor and
many Graycliff exclusives. Handmade wooden bowls
created from local trees felled by a storm are just one
unique find.

FASHION EXPERT » ERIN HABES
How would you describe your
personal style?
I love an androgynous look. A cozy
fisherman's sweater with a great
pair of jogger jeans mixed with
some bold accessories. It’s all about
materials and texture. And, definitely sneaks or flats,
I’m always on the move!

the top of the list. O’Connell’s offers the ‘backbone’ of a

you feel as if you just went back in time, when retail was a
rather refined affair!
