Principal
Jesse Morrill
We had an awesome day with our incredible new 6th grade class on
August 19th. Our newest Mustangs were introduced to the staff, practiced
opening lockers, walked their schedules, and participated in team-building

Welcome Assembly
We had a great time with
our students on Friday,
August 26th at a welcome
assembly to kick off the
2016-17 school year! At the
assembly, we learned about
what it means to
demonstrate Kinard
character and how students
can be involved at Kinard
throughout the year. We
also participated in some
very fun and animated
class cheers!

Student Absences
If your child is ill and will not be attending school on a given day, please be
sure to call in to our 24-hour attendance line at 488-5401. Please leave us
your name, your child’s name, and his/her student ID number. Even if you
contact your child’s individual teachers to notify them of the absence or
request make up work, you still need to call the attendance line to confirm
the absence with our office staff.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Save the date! Our fall Parent/Teacher
Conferences are scheduled for October 6th and
13th from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Parent/Teacher
Conferences are a great way to meet your child’s
teachers, learn about your child’s classes, ask
individual questions about your child’s academic
progress, and gain insight into a variety of school
resources to support your child’s learning
throughout the year. More information regarding
the specifics of these evenings will be coming soon.
We hope to see you there!

School Dress Code
At Kinard, we follow the PSD dress code, which can be found
in the 2016-17 Student Rights and Code of Conduct booklet.
Students at Kinard are encouraged to dress in a neat and

participate in all school-related activities, regardless of
weather.

Clothing must cover the torso and should not reveal
personal garments.

Shirts with no straps or very narrow straps, or shirts too revealing
are not appropriate attire for a school setting; short shorts also fall
into this category.

Shoes must be worn at all times.

Hats should be removed when inside the building, unless part of a
celebration/event or necessary for an individual due to special
circumstances.

Backpacks may not be worn during the school day and need to be
kept in lockers.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities
School Accountability Committee
We are reaching out to all parents to extend an
invitation to serve on the 2016-2017 School
Accountability Committee (SAC). The SAC is a
wonderful opportunity to enhance our
partnership with parents through an organized
group composed of both parents and teachers at
Kinard.
The SAC has a very specific focus, established by
the Colorado Department of Education and
Poudre School District. Primary topics for analysis and discussion will
include budget allocation and Kinard's Unified Improvement Plan
(UIP). Other topics that may be discussed in this committee include, but are
not limited to: parent involvement, student transitions, curriculum,
instruction, assessment, systems for support, communication, technology,
leadership, decision-making, positive behavior support, and school-wide
capacity building.
Our first meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 19th from 6:00 - 7:30
p.m. If you are interested in serving on the SAC committee, please RSVP to
Theresa Varn at [email protected] or 970-488-5400.
Kinard Parent Partnership
Kinard Parent Partnership is a group of dedicated Kinard parent volunteers.
Their main goal is to help make your child’s educational experience at
Kinard be the best it can be. The Kinard Parent Partnership works closely
with Kinard staff to support all educational endeavors.

The first Kinard Parent Partnership Meeting for the 2016-17 school year will
be Thursday, September 15th, 2016 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Kinard
Media Center. The purpose of this meeting will be to share with parents
different ways they can contribute time, energy, resources, and ideas to
help make Kinard an even better place for our students. If you signed up to
volunteer for and/or participate in one of our parent volunteer

Notes from your Parent Partnership
Coordinators
“Hey there, Kinard family! My name is Wendee Brungardt, and I'm
grateful to be a part of the Kinard parent partnership team! I have
the honor of heading up the staff appreciation team. It's a joy to
be able to show our wonderful staff at Kinard our appreciation for
all the many sacrifices of learning and time they give our kids.
Some of the things our team does: back to school encouragement
for the start of the year, classified staff appreciate week in
October, winter breakfast in December, salad and soup lunch in
spring, then in May teacher appreciation week. I would really
enjoy having more parents as a part of my team to contribute in
these different events.”
-Wendee Brungardt
“A fun and creative group- the Parent Wellness and School
Environment team is given the opportunity to help enhance and
improve the environment at Kinard. Our definition of
“environment” covers the mental, emotional, physical and social
needs of the students and staff. We collaborate will all the Parent
Partnership teams to foster wellness in all events. Our
contributions include, but aren’t limited to: creating and updating
bulletin boards and display cases, organizing and distributing
"testing treats” during the assessments in April, and facilitating
resources for the school’s Staff Wellness Team.
We are continually evolving and expanding and look forward to
another exciting year at Kinard. Hope you will consider joining us!”

Kinard Parent Partnership Fund
Help us continue to make Kinard an excellent and
high-achieving school by contributing to the
Kinard Parent Partnership Fund! The Kinard
Parent Partnership Fund is intended to raise
money to support our students and school. The
fund provides families an opportunity to
contribute to a variety of school-wide needs. The
fund monies help us to support student activities
such as: Kinard Karnival; 8th Grade Celebration;
student socials; and staff appreciation, in addition
to supporting school-wide needs in technology, music programs, athletics,
and much more.
By contributing to the Kinard Parent Partnership Fund, you are ensuring
that Kinard will continue to achieve the high levels of academic success and
stellar community involvement that has been recognized over the past
twelve years. Your continued generosity is what allows Kinard to truly be
the school of choice for middle school in PSD! Click here to download the
fund form and learn more about how we use the generous contributions
from our community. Please bring any fund contributions to the main office
by Friday, October 14, 2016.
Last year’s funds were used to refresh instruments in our band and
orchestra programs, and we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all
contributors!
Spring Semester 2016 Honor Roll
