Walk Way
THiS
TO GET TO KNOW A PLACE PROPERLY IS TO FEEL IT, TO CONNECT WITH NATURE, AND TOUCH DOWN
ON FOOT. HERE ARE FOUR INCREDIBLE WALKING TRAILS VOTED BY YOUR DESTINATIONS TEAM AS UNMISSABLE.
1
The Surf Coast Walk, Torquay Victoria
Time: 6-7 hours / or sections thereof.
Distance: 30 kilometres.
Description: Medium grade.
Stay: Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Torquay.
T
o experience the spectacular beauty of the Great
Ocean Road and its surrounds, the Surf Coast
walk offers much to see and do. It is a 30-kilometre
long marked trail, which can be completed in
sections. It begins at Deep Creek Reserve on the
Esplanade, which is right opposite Wyndham
Torquay.
The walk takes in spectacular coastal views,
fabulous children’s playgrounds and public art. In
its entirety the walk passes through Bells Beach,
Point Addis, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven and
Torquay. A complete guide is available from the
Torquay Visitor Information Centre or visit:
www.visitgreatoceanroad.org.au/surfcoastwalk
Bring: Comfy shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen,
water, camera and warm clothes in the cooler
months.
2
The Overland Track, Tasmania
Time: 5 -8 DAYS / or sections thereof.
Distance: 64 kilometres, plus many side trips.
Description: Medium grade. Camping gear is
required for overnight walks.
Stay: Camp at Lake St Clair National Park, or for
day walks stay at Cradle Mountain Lodge. Stay at
Wyndham vacation resorts Asia Pacific seven mile beach
while in hobart.
T
he Overland Track is internationally renowned
as one of Australia’s most iconic bush walks,
situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair
National Park. The 64-kilometre, six-day trek takes
walkers right to the heart of one of Tasmania’s
World Heritage areas.
The walk starts at Ronny Creek in Cradle
Valley. Over the next six days, hikers journey
through a landscape of ancient rainforests, verdant
valleys carved by glaciers, fragrant eucalypt forest,
buttongrass moorlands and beautiful alpine
meadows. The walk concludes at Australia’s deepest
lake, Lake St Clair.
Six days is the average time taken to walk the
track, but walkers can choose to create their own pace,
depending on how many rest days or side-trips they
wish to enjoy. For those who do not wish to undertake
the full walk, a number of shorter treks ranging from
20 minutes to several hours to overnight are available
from Lake St Clair and Cradle Mountain.
Phone (03) 6233 6047 or check with the local visitor
centres for further information. Conditions can change
unexpectedly so careful planning is essential. More
details on what to pack can be found here:
www.parks.tas.gov.au/overlandtrack
After the trek you will be wanting some well-
deserved resort luxuries! Stay at Wyndham Seven Mile
Beach in Hobart for some creature comforts on either
side of your journey.
Bring: To walk the full 64 kilometres you will need to
carry a week’s worth of food, cooking equipment and
camping gear on your back. There is an option to sleep
in huts but they do get booked out rather quickly and
walkers should still carry a tent in case of emergency.
Info: Permits required from November to May; walk
must be completed north to south during this time.

Queenstown to Wanaka will leave
you awe-inspired, as you wind your
way through valleys surrounded by
rolling mountains and vast fields like
Cardrona and Treble Cone that in winter
are blanketed in snow and brimming

The centrepiece of this laid back

Lake Wanaka is a year round attraction
but summer is when the real fun
begins! Boating enthusiasts take to the
lake exploring its every corner and
discovering hidden coves and secluded
islands. Pick up the pace at the nearby
Klutha River, where jetboats glide
you through the crystal clear waters,
skimming over rocks and sandbars and
powering through rapids.
For those who prefer to do their
exploring on dry land, there is a
plethora of walking tracks in nearby Mt

you through the rugged wilderness,
