economics, etc. The faculty also aims to round off the student’s education via close links with
industry, thanks to the strong relationships developed by the faculty with public and private
economic actors. These partnerships contribute to the Faculty professional network,
facilitating work experience through the practice programs and helping students to have the
best start in their career.
An important element of the Economics Faculty philosophy is the notion of community; the
Faculty belongs to the students, and they play an active role in their own education through,
for example, feedback they can give to others on internship experiences, practice period in
different enterprises, or activities with the student association. We are committed to

Piteşti City
Piteşti is the seat of Arges county and is located 110 km north-west of Bucharest. The city's population is
155,383 inhabitants (2011 census), being the 13th-largest urban center in Romania. Archaeological findings
show that in the perimeter of Piteşti there are traces of human presence dating back to the Paleolithic but the
first document that mentioned the city with the current name was issued in 1388.
Piteşti is called "the city of the tulips". Since 1978, in Piteşti is organized an annual fesival of the tulips called
Symphony of the Tulips, a socio-cultural event unique in the country due to which the city is known both in
Romania and abroad. The joining of the two words "symphony" and "tulips", was aimed to combine the field of
music and floriculture to express better the human feeling of joy generated by the coming of spring.
The city is located in the central-southern part of Romania, in the historical region of Wallachia. The landscape
is dominated by hills covered with forests. Over the centuries, Piteşti was, for short periods, temporary
residence of the Wallachian rulers.
Piteşti is the center of the automotive industry in Romania. Dacia Renault plant is located just 15 km away, in
the small town Mioveni. In the city and the surrounding areas there are major companies producing
components for the automotive industry: Leoni Wiring Systems, Johnson Controls, Lisa Draexlmaier Autopart,
Faurecia, Valeo Cablaje, Aka Automotive, Inergy Automotive, Lear Corporation etc. Modern trade is dominated
by international companies such as Auchan, Carrefour, Metro, Praktiker, Lidl, Profi, Kaufland, Billa and others.
Among the important personalities of Romania, originating from Piteşti, we will mention here:
 Ion BC Brătianu (1864-1927) - Romania's prime minister for five times (1909-1911, 1914-1918, 19181919, 1922-1926, 1927);
 Armand Călinescu (1893-1939) - Romania's prime minister (1939);
 Rudolf Schweitzer-Cumpăna (1886-1975) - Romanian painter.
In the recent years, the development of the city was helped by European Union funded projects that have
allowed the construction of business centers, refurbishment of streets and parks. In 2013, Piteşti was
designated European City of Sport. Argeş County Museum has a section dedicated to the sport in Argeş County.
Also, in the museum is the National Gallery of Naive Art. The football team of the city, FC Argeş, was founded in
1953 and won the title of champion of Romania in 1972 and 1979.
Piteşti is a multicultural city. In the city, besides numerous Orthodox churches and of other religions, there is a
Catholic church, an Armenian church and a synagogue.

Râşnov Citadel
Râşnov citadel was called "peasant fortress" because the main occupation of its builders was the agriculture.
Peasant fortresses were part of a defense system of the Transylvanian villages exposed to invasions. This
fortress had a defensive role against the armies invading Transylvania through Bran and was the only chance of
survival for the inhabitants of neighboring areas. In 1335, during a Tatar invasion that ravaged this part of
Transylvania, Râşnov and Braşov were the only citadels remaining unconquered. This is also the first
documented attestation of the fortification.
The importance of the citadel was given by its location on the trade route that linked Wallachia to Transylvania.
The architectural style is simple, the main goal being the defense of the city. Today, inside the citadel there are
the ruins of 30 houses that were designed to protect the residents and their property during wars.

Bran Castle
(also known as “the Castel of Dracula”)
In 1377 the Hungarian King Louis I of Anjou issued a document granting to the people of Braşov (“Kronstadt”
– The Crown’s City) the privilege of building a castle. Through this document, the Saxons of Transylvania,
from the region encompassing Braşov, were urged to participate in the building of Bran Castle. The Saxons
(“Sachsen”) of Transylvania are a population of German origin settled in this region in the twelfth century by
the Hungarian Kings.
The construction of Bran Castle was complete in 1388. The Castle stood at the South-Eastern border of
Transylvania and served both the role of customs and the role of a fortress – it was used in an attempt to stop
the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. Initially, Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Ţepes) was allied with the Saxons of
Bran and Braşov. Then, a conflict errupted between the Vlad the Impaler and the Saxons, who requested
higher customs taxes and supported his opponent for the throne. During his second reign he passed through
Bran in early 1459 with the Wallachian army in order to attack Braşov. The source of the conflict was the fact
that the Saxonsrequested higher customs taxes and supported his opponent for the throne of Wallachia. The
army of Vlad the Impaler burned the city’s suburbs and murdered hundreds of Translvanian Saxons. The
destructions determined the Saxon community of Braşov to seek revenge. The Saxons created manny stories
about the Wallachian prince, describing him as a tyran.
The myth of Dracula was created by the Irish writer Bram Stoker. Before writing Dracula, Bram Stoker met
Ármin Vámbéry, a Hungarian writer and traveler. Dracula likely emerged from Vámbéry's dark stories
(manny created by the Transylvanian Saxons). Stoker spent several years researching European folklore and
mythological stories of vampires.
After the First Wolrd War, Transylvania became part of Romania. On December 1st 1920, the council of the
city of Braşov, led by Mayor Karl Schnell, offered the Bran castle to Queen Maria of Romania. The castle was
used as residence by the Romanian royal family. In 2009, the Castle fully re-entered the possession of its legal
heirs, Archduke Dominic, Archduchess Maria Magdalena and Archduchess Elisabeth.
Dracula is a 1931 American vampire-horror film produced by Universal and directed by Tod Browning,
starring Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula.
