Artist Statement
“I have been an artist as long as I can
remember working in many different
mediums, but I always come back to painting
as my first love. I moved to Point Reyes 24
years ago and it was like coming home,
because I grew up in the Allegheny National
Forest and wild nature and creatures have
always been my friends and teachers. The
paintings are gouache on paper or acrylic on
canvas and the images reflect the magic I see
in the world.”

note from our executive director
Dear friends,
Warm wishes for 2016. A big thank you
to the West Marin Community for the
generous support we have received this past
year. Your participation has allowed us to
offer our many performances, classes and
programs for children, adults and seniors.
We could not do it without you.
With the New Year comes another transition for the Dance Palace, the retirement of
board president, Ann Emanuels. Ann has
tirelessly guided us for six years with dedication, intelligence, humor and grace. Her
contributions are too numerous to name.
With appreciation we wish her many new
adventures in her next phase.
Please join us this
spring. We have a full
schedule of events,
including the West Marin
premiere of Geoff Hoyle’s
original solo show Lear’s
Shadow, An Evening with Isabele Allende,
the first Dance Palace Community Awards
Banquet and piano concerts with Thomas
Schulz and Paul Smith. And don’t miss our
Kids Musical Theater program, Press Start,
a wacky comedy about vintage video.
With warm regards,
Alison Marks

BUYER’S REMORSE: HOW OBAMA LET
PROGRESSIVES DOWN — A READING &
CONVERSATION WITH BILL PRESS
Bill Press, prominent liberal syndicated
radio and television
host (and part-time
Inverness resident),
concisely explains the
many ways he says
President Obama has
failed to live up to
either his promises
or his progressive
potential. In his new
book, Press reflects
back on what for
many progressives
has been a
disappointing
presidency and comes
to a depressing conclusion: Obama
grossly misunderstood the mandate of the
enthusiastic crowds that swarmed him on
the campaign trail. Instead of recognizing
their burning desire for strong progressive
leadership, Obama tried to be a “postpartisan” president. According to Press, he
leaves his supporters haunted by what might
have been. Whether you agree or disagree,
this will be a lively evening. Presented by
Point Reyes Books and the Dance Palace

available at Point Reyes Books and at the

latest novel, The Japanese Lover. Known for
writing in the literary style of magic realism,
Allende is adept at marvelous surprises. At
this evening benefit for the Dance Palace
Community & Cultural Center, she will read
a little, converse a little, answer questions,
and more. Sponsored by Point Reyes Books
and the Dance Palace.
Location: West Marin School.
