In 1991, I was
appointed as a parttime pastor to Madison
Our Master’s United
Methodist Church. I was
a part-time pastor, and
a full-time student at
Garrett Evangelical
Theological School in Evanston, IL. I was also
trying to be both a husband and a father to
my family. The only way I got through all that
was due to God’s Spirit with me, the support
of my family and the support of the Church.
I remember the first time my family and I
had to move. My daughter Seren came into
my office and told me she was both sad and
afraid. She was sad because she would miss
her friends and afraid about making new
friends. I didn’t tell her then, that I too was
both sad and afraid. What I did say to her
was, “As Christians we have many friends,
most of whom we haven’t met yet.”
Lynn and I have made several moves
during the course of doing ministry. We have
met many Christian friends.
I have found that one of the toughest
things for me to do is to say “Good bye.” The
word comes from an old phrase, “God be
with you.”
Lynn and I have been with you for the
past five and a half years. Together we have
done a lot of ministry and mission work in the
community and the world, especially through
our apportionments and our giving to special
ministries and through our noisy can
collections. Lynn and I greatly appreciate all
that you have done as the Church in Delavan
and Walworth County. We love you all.
Some of you have
asked me what I’m
going to do after
retirement. At this
point, I’m not sure. I
am praying about
it. I have a few
things I want to do
such as my photography and writing. For the
most part I have every confidence that God
will have something for me to do. For one
thing, Lynn and I are looking forward to being
the best grand-parents we can be.
As for all of you, I have every confidence
that your new Pastor, Rev. Maribel Celiz and
this congregation, along with Vida
Abundante will do wonderful ministry and
mission together in the name of Jesus Christ.
You will be in my prayers, always. God
bless you all. Pastor Stan
I also want to thank the congregation for
the past two years as your secretary. The
opportunity presented itself at a very low point
in my life when I felt that I had nothing to offer
after losing my job and an unsuccessful job
search. But, when you put your cares in God’s
hands and have faith, things happen. For the
better, even if you do not see it at the time
and these two years have restored me.
I know that I would not have had the
opportunity to get to know so many of you
better than I have in any other congregation
and to see the beautiful souls inside each and
every one of you. We have walked many
journeys, events, funerals and days of laughter
together and I have been blessed. Know that
you will be missed. Blessings, Lynn

 Meet Your New Secretary—Jeanne Esch has been hired as the
new secretary and will begin training with Lynn on June 2 for two
days/week until the end of the month. Jeanne previously worked for
12 years at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. She has been
married for 25 years to Paul Esch, has two dogs and loves flower
gardening, dollhouses, reading and outdoor activities. She is a

 Our next UMW church-wide event will be the Dawg Daze Craft Fair and Ice Cream Social on
Saturday June 27. The Craft Fair will run from 9:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. and will feature booths on the
church grounds. The Ice Cream Social begins at 1:00 p.m. and there will also be a food stand with
proceeds supporting the Leukemia/Lymphoma Scenic Shore 150 Bike Ride that Erica Reddy is
participating in. Spaces are available so if you know any crafters, please let them know and have
them contact Pat Brown at 262-728-3689. This will be the last day of the Wall Dogs in town. There will
be other functions in Phoenix Park at the same time. Parishioners may donate crafts of their choosing
to the UMW craft table with proceeds from this table and rental of booth space supporting UMCOR.
We hope to make this an annual event. Any questions may be addressed to Pat Brown who is the
event coordinator.
 The Finance Team would like to send a special “Thank You” to everyone who participated in
our recent Stewardship Drive. Because of your response, our team will have a little better
understanding of our monthly income and to better set up a church budget to cover our expenses.
The Delavan United Methodist Church has been blessed with many generous givers to help carry on
the Christian message throughout our community and worldwide. Without you all this would not be
possible. “Thank You” for your caring and sharing. God’s Blessings to All. Serving under the Lord’s
Guidance, Your Financial Team
 Thank You to Chris Anding, Jean Pippitt, Jim Aldinger, Pastor Stan and Lynn Curtis for cleaning all
the Shelter laundry…a big job that went much quicker with many hands!

 Bishop Jung Announces Continuation of INM Campaign in Wisconsin—Earlier in May
Bishop Jung said, "We praise God for the work of Imagine No Malaria (INM) and for the work of
Wisconsin United Methodist Churches and people to raise funds and awareness for this life-saving
project. So far, over 48,000 lives have been saved by the work of the churches all
across the state. And we know that we can make it to our goal of saving 100,000
lives. With passion and commitment to that goal, we are excited to announce that
the INM campaign has been extended for another year – ending at Annual
Conference 2016. As part of the denomination-wide $75 million effort, we stand
strong in our commitment to raise $1 million and save 100,000 lives for this important ministry of the
UMC. Imagine No Malaria’s life-saving programs focus on equipping and empowering the people of
Africa with the tools, treatment, and education they need to eliminate the threat of malaria in their
communities. Wisconsin churches that have not been involved or could do more are encouraged to
do so. Visit www.ImagineNoMalariaWI.org for more information and resources to get involved. In just
the last eight years, malaria deaths have been cut in half. But we still have more to do until the work
is done. Thank you for your continued commitment to this incredible change.”

WE Energies is helping to protect our natural environment both today and for our future generations.
Bats are an important part of our eco-system with the eating of tons of crop pests. Due to a deadly
white-nose fungus, millions of bats have died and may become an endangered
species. WE Energies is committed to helping reduce bat mortality in Wisconsin.
They have joined with the Electric Power Research Institute to develop technology
to protect bats flying near wind turbines. Using ultrasonic microphones near
turbines that check for sonar chirps bats make to navigate, a predictive Bat
Detection and Shutdown System has been developed. This system helps to know
when bats are normally near the turbines. This research allows the turbines to be idle during the
predicted times and will help save the lives of numerous bats. Be sure to pay attention to God’s world
around you and aid in its protection.

UMW HAPPENINGS by Chris Anding
June 2015
May’s beautiful spring weather is rapidly unfolding as we approach
June. Memories of the beautiful dinner, tributes and program at the Mother
Child Friend Banquet May 6 will not soon be forgotten. We had an
awesome event with the Men’s Club serving a beautiful dinner headed up
by Ron Anderson, the 3 Yartey sisters, Breanna, Gracie and Kylene giving
an original tribute to each other as sisters, Erica giving the tribute to a child
and Renee giving a tribute to her best friend, Erica. It was all very
entertaining. This was followed by our speaker, Roberta Karstetter giving a
review of her very original prayerful art work meant to provoke thought and
meditation. Thank you and hats off to all who contributed to this event to make it memorable.
Our Rummage Sale May 16 might be called the sale of the year since we filled up the Fellowship
Hall with our best finds and donations, baked goods and coffee and was very successful. Thank you to
all who contributed items for sale and to all those who volunteered to help with
the sales and clean up. We appreciate it very much.
A big thank you to those who helped fill our Flood Buckets and gave
donations. We will be sending 10 Flood Buckets with Pastor Stan to Annual
Conference in June. From there, they will be transported to Midwest Distribution
Center, Chatham, IL and then distributed to those in need of cleaning up after
floods and hurricanes in the United States.

One of the things that Trustees is responsible for is making sure that Church building and parsonage are
maintained well but we need your assistance to do some of the things that need to be done. Below is a
list of some of the things that need to be done. It’s not a complete list and more will be added as needs
arise. This list will be posted in Fellowship Hall and we would ask that you sign-up on that list and then
keep the list below as a reminder of what you have volunteered to assist with.. As you do a project, if
you would like to be reimbursed for materials, let any of the Trustees or Lynn know and you will be
assisted in filling out an expense voucher. If there isn’t any urgency to complete a task it’s perfectly fine
to work at your own speed and if you need any help, you shouldn’t feel afraid to ask. If you can think of
something else that needs attention, please let us know. Thanks! Jim Aldinger

MISSION TRIP DISCOVERIES
By Chris Anding
Hi! I’m back from southern Illinois where Midwest Mission Distribution Center is located at
Chatham, Illinois. It is as it says, a center where mission kits and equipment to further the mission
efforts in faraway countries is located. What got me there? I had an email asking if anyone
from Delavan United Methodist which is in the Circuit 44 area would be interested in going on
the Circuit 44 mission trip May 11-15 to make health or school kits, school desks or help with
inside construction of the facility. All that was needed
was the motivation and capability to help. What we
take for granted such as hospital gowns and linens,
school desks and ready-made school bags is valued in
such places as Nepal, Africa and South America
where the need is great. Midwest Missions annually
attract people of all faiths including Jewish and area
residents who regularly come to repair sewing
machines, stitch together school bags, make patterns
for children’s outfits in the hospitals and orphanages
and volunteer to supervise incoming volunteers.
They also rehab bicycles which are most people’s
method of transportation. We counted 270
donated bikes on the grounds. Nomads, retired
folks with more time and bigger equipment come
to help with the big projects like finishing the
warehouse. There are only three paid staff
headed by Pat Wright. We met the man who
designed the school desks donated from area
schools who is a retired math teacher.
Our group rolled
many hospital linens,
made school bags
and desks and hung insulation in the new addition. I serged school
bags for three days. On the third day, three seamstresses came to
sew handles onto 77 bags so that was my week’s work. Our group
of 15 from Walworth County Circuit 44 stayed in a very comfortable
dorm with a huge great room including all the amenities, kitchen
and eight bedrooms with bunk beds. Our group was led by Pastor
Kim Brumm, Whitewater, who pastors at the Richmond UMC.
Coordinator was Mary Ann Gerlach, Whitewater and our cook was
Diane Quade who did an excellent job. Our trip was both mission
oriented and spiritual as we each took turn giving our testimonies
during morning and evening devotions.
You have another chance to join the group possibly in May of
2016 or for sure in June 2017 which has been scheduled. See you
then!

TREASURER’S REPORT – MAXINE PETERS
April Income $10,826.56 with 1 more Sunday of collection. Checking account balance as of 5/14/15 $1,178.07/ Bills

not. There is no details available on this matter for this account. The committee agreed to wave the amount owed
and will move forward from this point on. We have been blessed with a generous gift of money from Bob Svensen
family. The family wants something dedicated in honor of Pastor Stan before he leaves. It was suggested to move
forward with the handicap auto door openers for the main entrance doors; one on each set of outside and inside
doors. They must open simultaneously. We will also take advice from the installers. Jim will email quotes and
information to the Trustees and church council for their discussion and approval, not waiting for next meeting to
get this moving. Motion to accept the money from the Svensen family and that it will be put into the Foundation
for future needs; as well as to proceed with the door openers pending approval by Trustees and council was

starts in July full time, she will keep Lynn’s schedule, subject to change as Jean moves forward.

Delavan United Methodist Church-Board of Trustees
Minutes for May 4, 2015
Attended by:, Pastor Stan Curtis, Jim Aldinger, Peggy Behrens, Gene Gallup, Jeff Neiger, Lupe
Manriquez, , Don Hummel, Van Brown, Hector Valadez. Absent: Dick Martin. Called to Order: 7:01 pm
by Jim Aldinger. Opening Prayer: Pastor Stan
Review of Minutes: Minutes submitted by Jeff Neiger. Approved on a Hummel/Gallup motion
Old Business: (Updates)
Parsonage Repairs: (Aluminizing Facias and Soffits) Don Branton has volunteered to do the job. Phyllis
Almburg (PPRC) has requested (from Jessica Rima) that we use professional cleaners for all of the
parsonage floor cleaning before the new Pastor moves in. This will be recommended to the Church
Council
Security: Lights were left on in the entryway. They had been turned off after the first service and left
on after the second service. Lupe will check with his Pastor.
New Business:
New Member: Dick Martin will no longer be able to serve on the Trustees committee. A new member
will need to be found.
Freezer: Reid Barr has given a freezer to the church for $40.00 A new motor was needed for $27.00 and
was installed by Jim Aldinger. It will be placed in the food pantry, but it is to be used for the kitchen
only. It is not to be used for the food pantry.
Fans: New fans needed for the sanctuary. We need commercial, high quality fans. Jim has found some
that will oscillate at a slow speed creating little noise. They are $209.00 each or $179.00 each if we buy
four plus $100 for shipping, for a total of $816.00 for four. Questions were brought up about the fans:
where to place them, how tall are they, do we really need four, are they returnable if they don’t work
out for us? Lupe will check on prices through his company. Memorial funds may be used for this. A
suggestion was made to only purchase two and check with the company to see if we could get the
reduced price if we decide we do need four. This information will be taken to Ad Council.
To Do List: Jim has presented a preliminary list of things that need to be done. Much discussion
followed. The men’s bathroom needs some work done. Don Edmunds will look into it. The possibility of
putting the list in the Tower was brought up. It would be a request from the Trustees along with a letter
from Jim notifying the congregation that there will be a list posted in Fellowship Hall. The list should be
posted in both Spanish and English and also announced to the Hispanic congregation.
Youth room: Jessica wants the Youth room to be used for the Sunday School. At the present time it is
filled with “stuff”. This needs to be cleaned out.
Church Pews: Four sections of pews are currently being stored in the Resource Room. A suggestion
was made to sell them at the craft fair or rummage sale. Another suggestion was made to put them
along the wall in the new addition for seating for those waiting. Tables and many Christmas trees are
also being stored. They could be sold at the rummage sale or donated to Goodwill if we do not use
them.
Chairs and Tables in Boiler Room: These could also be put in the rummage sale.
Other Business:
We are currently having problems with the internet. The router often needs to be unplugged and reset.
Need to look into getting rid of the routers.
Adjournment:
Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm. on a Neiger/Brown motion.
Submitted byPeggy Behrens, Secretary of Trustees
Next Meeting June 1, 2015 at 7:00 pm.
