News you can use!!!
The last several months have been awesome!!! We had a Kitten Extravaganza in July and it was a great success. A
supporter donated $1000 for 20 cats to be adopted and spay/neutered. We had a great turn out. Many animals got
lifelong homes. We had a contest to name 2 kittens. The names were picked by a drawing. Caesar and Cicero were
the winning names and the winners were our very own Dr. James and Camilla Shumaker! This was a great success
due to all the help from Jennifer Ellington who volunteered her time and resources. She stepped up to the plate, to
make this event happen. Special thanks to all of our volunteers. You make our four legged friends, our staff, and board
members so proud!
Special thanks to Dollar Tree located at Hannan Plaza. Donations were given in a four week time span of over $1000
in toys, cat and dog food, food bowls, treats, leashes, collars, and kitty litter. Thank you so much Jan the manager,
staff, and the public for supporting our cause.
Let’s hear a big applause for our young volunteers!!!! Carley Resser, Addie Pope and Jenna Henshaw, opened up a
lemonade stand and gave our four legged friends a donation of $70.00. We are so proud of you!!!!
We have upgraded our computer and installed new software from Pet Point that will give us accurate information on
each animal and will make the paperwork and reports so much easier.

Executive Director: Terry Vannerson
The Board and Staff of the McCracken County Humane Society continue to make improvements for
humane management of unwanted dogs and cats. Under the direction of Terry Vannerson, concerted
efforts are being made to upgrade the animal shelter, its grounds and the policy and procedures that govern
the treatment of our animals. The heating and air conditioning of the kennel area is being upgraded and the
siding on the shelter is being replaced.
Our mission is to find suitable homes for the animals. All of our animals receive veterinary care if needed.
If the adult animals have not been spayed or neutered, then this is done prior to adoption. All animals who
are adopted have their immunizations updated and the adopter receives a health record.
I continue to stress to our friends the need for ongoing support. The earnings from our investments are
not enough to cover the expense of operations. Donations are critical to the success of the Humane Society’s
mission.
We invite you to come out to the shelter on Coleman Road to visit and see what is being done. We are
always are open to suggestions. Most of all, we thank you for your continued support.
James L. Shumaker
Board President

Services
McCracken County Humane Society, Inc. has been in operation for over 60 years. We are a
501 c (3) Nonprofit organization. We operate on the generosity of donations. We serve the McCracken County
area, outlying counties and states.
Adoptions
Services we currently offer and watch for more to come!!!
Our Adoption staff helps hundreds of animals find homes each year. We also have a Foster Program that cares for
baby animals and works closely with rescue groups. We have an off-site adoption kiosk for cats and kittens at PetSmart
during their hours of operation (Monday-Saturday 9am-9pm & Sunday 10am-6pm).
Spay & Neuter Program and Voucher Certificates
In 2013, we partnered with Ceglinski Animal Clinic and Animal Care Center to ensure that all animals are spayed and
neutered before being adopted. To continue this endeavor with our young animals, their adoption fee includes a
prepaid spay/neuter voucher. With the overabundance of cats and dogs, one of our goals is to help control the pet
population.
Boarding
We offer boarding to cats and dogs if provided with their current, up-to-date veterinarian records. Our staff walks and
provides group playtime, as requested.
Training of Shelter Animals
Our staff coordinates with our volunteers to teach essential training techniques. Combined with volunteers, we train
our animals by using positive reinforcement methods. When trained, shelter dogs become better behaved, less stressed
animals in the shelter environment, thus making them more desirable to potential adopters.
Health Records
Upon intake of all animals, a health record is started and they are assessed, weighed, vaccinated, dewormed
and pictures taken for our website, PetFinder and Facebook. All animals get a rabies shot and are
spayed/neutered when age appropriate.

DONATING IS A WAY YOU CAN HELP
We need your continued support to care for these animals to get them ready for their lifelong
homes. Your donation is tax deductible and is used for vaccinations, medical care and our spay/
neuter program. You can give a one time donation or monthly.
We can also use dog and cat toys, canned, dry dog and cat food, kitty litter, & Milk Replacement
Supplement for kittens that are being fostered, and new or used heating pads.
You can also give of your time by volunteering. Our volunteers walk dogs and puppies and socialize
with cats and kittens. They help with bathing, grooming and training the basics in animal behavior.
Students and groups can get credit for community service and receive a letter from MCHS for hours
volunteered.
