the Stanton Mustangs at No. 4. “Pre-season rankings are all well and good,
but we are worried about the rankings at the
end of the season,” said Hansen.
“We are attacking this season one game at
a time, and if we take care of the details, the
wins will come.” “Our main focus was Sept.
5 against a much-improved Gator program,”
Hansen said about the Mustangs’ opening
game in Wisner last Friday. Stanton won the
game 48-20 on an unusually cool night.
The Mustangs return eight starters on offense and eight on defense.
“Our major focus this season was to replace several solid lineman we lost through
graduation.”
“The new guys have stepped in there and
I think they’ve done a very good job,” said
Hansen. E
The 2008 version of the Stanton Mustangs
football team enters this season with high expectations, and they are not the only ones who
think so. Several publications have shown Stanton
a lot of respect, ranking them in the Top 2. Surprisingly, the Huskerland Prep Magazine
ranked the Mustangs No.1, above two-time
defending state champions, Wakefield.
“Wakefield returns several key starters
that will make them very tough,” said coach
Greg Hansen. “I expected us to be in the preseason top five, but No. 1 was a shock.” Several other publications showed
their high expectations for the Mustangs as
well, with the Omaha World Herald and the
Lincoln Journal Star both rating Stanton at No.
2, and Calpreps.com (a computerized website,
that specializes in high school sports) ranking
