LOCATION: Join us for the spectacular La Jolla Canyon hike
START TIME: 8:00am
DIFFICULTY: The first 2 miles are a moderate but steady climb up a nice trail as it winds up to the top
of the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The views are amazing. We hike along the ridge lines for a
while and then descend through La Jolla Canyon, This is a "loop" trail, meaning we start and finish at the
same parking lot but go up one way and back down another. Total hike distance is 7.5 miles; 1200 feet
elevation gain and return to the parking lot. Expect 4 hours for the hike including at least a couple of
snack breaks.
CARPOOL: Driving time from the Ventura YMCA is 35 minutes. If you want to carpool be in the Y
parking lot near the Anacapa tennis courts no later than 7:30.
DIRECTIONS: 4.3 miles south of Las Posas Rd on PCH, not much past Mugu Rock, watch for the sign
for Thornhill Broome Beach Campground. The trail head is at a parking lot at the mouth of the canyon
that is a left turn from PCH, across the highway from the beach. There is a parking fee to use the lot,
but you can park along PCH for free and walk a short distance to the lot. There are bathrooms there.
