THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
WHY DO CATHOLICS ADORE MARY?
We Catholics do not adore the Blessed Mother.
We honor her because she is the Mother of Jesus, the Son of God. It is
God Himself, who first honored Mary, when God chose her to be the
Mother of Jesus. The veneration is different from the veneration and
adoration of God, our Creator. Mary is honored as the Queen of Heaven and Earth.
Mary said: “My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord. My Spirit finds joy in God
my Savior” (LK 1: 46-47).
We believe that God saved Mary from the stain of original sin at the moment of her
Conception. God chose the Blessed Virgin Mary in His plan for the salvation of the
world. God sent his Son Jesus into the world. Jesus took on flesh and He became a man
like us.
We Catholics honor the Blessed Virgin Mary because she is the Mother of Jesus. Our
Blessed Mother has a prophetic role and she comes to the world through apparitions, to
deliver the message from God.
Fr. Moody

WEEK SCHEDULE
MAY 17, 2015
SUNDAY, MAY 17TH
Reflecting on God’s Word
These days most corporations and churches
have vision and mission statements. Often they
begin with a model vision that the institution
strives to live up to. They go on to state what the
institution seeks to do—how it puts its vision into
practice. A parish vision and mission statement
might say: “We are the Body of Christ. Utilizing
the gifts of each member, we collaborate to bring
more and more people into God’s kingdom of
freedom, justice, holiness, and love.”
On this feast we are given the ultimate vision
and mission statement for the Church. It goes
something like this: Christ is now working with
and for us “at the right hand of God” (Mark
16:19). Through the power of the Holy Spirit we
are to be Christ’s witnesses “to the ends of the
earth” (Acts 1:8). We seek to do so by
“proclaiming the gospel to every creature” (Mark
16:15) and “building up the body of Christ, until
we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge
of the Son of God” (Ephesians 4:12–13).

Living God’s Word
In today’s readings, Christ leaves his “corporation,”
the church, and trusts the “employees,” his disciples,
to run things in his absence. Considering the twothousand-year history of the Church, many might
question the wisdom of his decision! Yet, Christ knew
that the Spirit would always guide the Church in continuing his messianic mission.

4, 12–13). —Virginia Stillwell Derechos de autor © 2014, World Library Publications.

OUR SANCTUARY LIGHT BURNS THIS
WEEK IN CHURCH FOR THE GOOD
HEALTH OF CLARISA MERLE
Iglesia. Derechos de autor © 2014, World Library Publications. Todos los derechos
