another landmark year for everyone going to SXSW this year!

Here are a few of the highlights this year:
• President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama
will be Keynote Speakers
Plan accordingly for heightened security and crowds as
the President will have a technology-focused keynote
conversation on March 11 and then first lady is expected to
talk about her Let Girls Learn initiative, which aims to help
young women around the world gain access to an education
on March 16th.
• Ellen Page and Ian Daniel join the
SXSW Film Keynote lineup
Co-creators of the documentary series Gaycation will
discuss their careers, as well as cultural attitudes toward
LGBTQ people and the larger equality movement on
Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 AM.
• Coheed and Cambria will headline the SXSW Outdoor
Stage at Lady Bird Lake on Friday, March 18
This is just one of the hundreds of acts that you can see
through the music portion of SXSW.

2016 Star of Texas Rodeo
This year is going to be better than ever! It’s never just a
Rodeo here. There’s something for everyone at this year’s
Star of Texas Rodeo. Whether it’s seeing Willie Nelson
and Family perform on March 12th or watching the official
sport of Texas you are going to have a great time!
Rodeo Austin is one of America’s top 10 ProRodeos. The top
ranked athletes in each event compete in Rodeo Austin for
the title of Champion. Enjoy extreme competition, bull fighting
entertainment and the fan-favorite Mutton Bustin’.
Rodeo Austin also hosts over 130 live music performances
during the fifteen-day Fair and Rodeo, and is proud to bring a
concert series that has something for everybody, from Texas
Country to punk rock.

Don’t forget the Fair! A family-friendly event open at
10 a.m. daily, the fairgrounds offers Austin’s largest
carnival, shopping, food and varity of shows and special
attractions.
2016 Pecan Street Festival
Beginning May 7th, the street will fill with hundreds of local
and national artisans offering handcrafted creations of all
sorts for 2 days. More than 60 musical acts, 30 food vendors
and family-friendly activities will fill the weekend with
food and entertainment. All supported by and benefiting
charitable partners of The Pecan Street Association,
a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization. Admission is free.

arton Springs Pool: Barton Springs Pool is situated at the
grounds of Zilker Park. It is a must-go-to place in the summer to
cool off, with a 68 degree temperature all year round. (There is a
FREE section and a separate paid section)

Planes, WWII Hangar, Library and WWII artifacts. Don’t miss

ongress Avenue Bats: The Congress Avenue Bridge is home to
the largest urban bat colony in North America. You can see these
bats emerge out of the bridge, covering the sky around sunset at
no cost.

entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Downtown Austin is hippie

• L yndon Baines Johnson Library & Museum: At this presidential
library and museum you will see, “the story of our time with the
bark off”. There are permanent exhibits as well as the numerous
special events held throughout the year.
• Mount Bonnell: Mount Bonnell is considered the highest point in
Austin at 775 feet. It is a popular tourist destination to view the
city of Austin, Lake Austin and surrounding hills.

ayfield Park: Mayfield Park is best described as a peaceful
preserve with walking trails and beautiful wildlife. Daily 5 am-10
pm. Free admission.

exas Memorial Museum: Dinosaurs and fossils, Texas wildlife,
evolution, gems, minerals and the largest flying animal ever found,
the Texas Pterosaur. Events include Darwin Day, Identification
Day (2/year), Family Fossil Fun Day (2/year), and Halloween.

dedicated to Texas armed forces in 19th, 20th, and 21st Century.
Here you see Living History; Close Assault 1944 each Memorial

• Texas State Capitol/University of Texas Campus: Free tours are
available daily.

ilker Botanical Gardens: The prehistoric garden, the Japanese
garden, and the rose garden are only three of the many. Throughout the year, it also serves as host to garden workshops, plant
sales, and docent-led tours. Daily 7 am-5:30 pm. Free admission.

ilker Park: Zilker Park is a 351 acre, dog-friendly park situated
in the heart of south Austin. The park offers many different types
of fun outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, jogging,
and many more. The park also serves as a hub for many special
events such as ACL, SXSW, Reggae fest, Zilker Kite Festival and
many more.
