Sail right into the pages of a storybook along the legendary Danube,
through pages gilded with history, and past the turrets and towers of castles
steeped in legend. You’ll meander along the fabled “Blue Danube” to grand
cities like Vienna and Budapest where kings and queens once waltzed, and
to gingerbread towns that evoke tales of Hansel and Gretel and the Brothers
Grimm. If you listen closely, you might hear the haunting melody of the Lorelei
siren herself as you cruise past her infamous river cliff post!
During this 12-day journey, encounter the grand cities and quaint villages along
the celebrated Danube River. Explore both sides of Hungary’s capital–traditional
“Buda” and the more cosmopolitan “Pest”–and from Fishermen’s Bastion, see
how the river divides this fascinating city. Experience Vienna’s imperial architecture and gracious culture, and tour riverside towns in Austria’s Wachau Valley.
And in Germany, explore a baroque cathedral and stroll cobbled streets lined
with half-timbered houses. Savor the tastes of authentic dishes, learn about local
legends, and understand why Strauss immortalized the “Blue Danube” in his
famous melody.

Danube River
Cruise
Enjoy the views from your riverboat’s sun deck,
lounge, or the windows of your outside cabin as
we dock in Passau. Today, a local guide will take
you on a walking tour through the cobblestone
streets of this Baroque town renowned for its
lovely stained glass and nearly 100 churches.
See the Altes Rathaus, the old town hall with
14th-century origins, murals on the façade and
a glockenspiel in the tower. We also visit St.
Stephan’s Cathedral, home to a magnificent
pipe organ that is one of the world’s largest.
Overnight in Passau. (B,D)
Here’s How Your
Trip Will Unfold...
DAY 1 Overnight flight to Europe
(International in-flight meals)
DAY 6 Passau to Linz &
DAY 2 Arrive in Prague
Welcome to Prague. Upon arrival, we will transfer you to our lovely hotel in Prague– the perfect
location to explore this amazing city. Catch up on
your rest, and get ready for our journey to begin.
(In-flight meals)
DAY 3 Prague
This morning you will discover the magic of Prague
on a tour of the modern and vibrant Czech capital.
Your guided walking tour of the city features many
of the highlights including Old Town, Wenceslas
Square and the Charles Bridge. Later, you have the
option of taking the must-see tour of the historic
Jewish section of town. With over a thousand
years of history, the Prague Jewish Community is
filled with many sites that testify to its rich cultural
and legendary past. Your expert guide will take
you through the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of the
most iconic sites in Prague established in the 15th
century and where the oldest tombstone–from poet
and scholar, Avigdor Karo–remains. You’ll also visit
some of the surviving synagogues before walking
through Maiselova Street, one of the two main
streets of the walled Jewish quarter. (B)
DAY 4 Full Free Day in Prague
Today is yours to explore what TripAdvisor ranks
as the 5th best world destination! You may wish
to take an optional tour to see the historic Prague
Castle, the largest medieval castle complex in
Europe. (B)
DAY 5 Prague to Passau
After your breakfast this morning we enjoy a
lovely drive through the Czech countryside into
Germany and our cruise embarkation at Passau,
Germany. Board your home for the next seven
nights, the newly appointed Amadeus Royal.
Salzburg, Austria
After a restful night aboard, enjoy a day of
cruising to Linz, Austria, or join our day trip to
Salzburg. As the birthplace of Mozart and the
setting for “The Sound of Music” Salzburg is
filled with Baroque architecture and the old
town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Literally
meaning “Salt Castle”, Salburg’s fortunes came
from tolls on salt barges plying the Salzach River.
In the afternoon, our ship docks in Linz, home
of the oldest cake in the world, and a European
Cultural Capital City. (B,L,D)
of Melk, and Wachau Wine Valley
This morning we arrive in the Wachau Valley for
a tour of the Benedictine Abbey of Melk. Melk is
best known for its staggeringly massive monastery, which was founded in 1089 in a medieval fortress. After 1,000 years it’s still functioning as an
abbey and school. In the 15th century the abbey’s
monks played a leading part in central European
monastic reform and it took its present magnificent Baroque form after a devastating fire in the
early 18th century. The abbey church with its enormous dome and ornate golden-hued bell towers
now stands proud on a rocky bluff high over the
Danube River. Melk boasts the largest ecclesiastical library in the world, with over 80,000 priceless
volumes and a wonderfully frescoed ceiling, while
the new museum has many jeweled reliquaries
and manuscripts on show. Napoleon used Melk
Abbey as his headquarters when campaigning
in Austria. Today it is surrounded by landscaped
gardens with spectacular views over the Wachau
Valley and the Danube. Later enjoy an afternoon
visit to Dürnstein also in the Wachau Valley. A
charming medieval village surrounded by some of
the finest winemakers in Europe. (B,L,D)
