Dear National Trust Traveler,
On a delightful springtime sojourn in the historic Hudson Valley,
explore the region’s rich and eclectic architectural heritage. Tour
the spectacular gardens, splendid mansions, and historic homes of
Revolutionary War heroes, famous artists, and Gilded Age financiers.
Private visits and special receptions distinguish this program, which will
be accompanied by architectural historian Grace Gary.
Amid bucolic scenery, discover historic estates and important
contemporary art. Take in the history and beauty of two National Trust
Historic Sites: Kykuit, the magnificent estate of John D. Rockefeller,
and Lyndhurst, summer home of railroad magnate Jay Gould. We will
also explore Olana, the Moorish-style castle of Hudson River School
artist Frederic Edwin Church, and Locust Grove, designed for artist and
telegraph inventor Samuel F. B. Morse. Other extraordinary homes on
our itinerary include Staatsburgh, the Vanderbilt Mansion at Hyde Park,
and Cedar Grove.
See the outdoor sculptures at the Storm King Art Center, enjoy
a wine tasting at the oldest vineyard in America, and have lunch at the
Culinary Institute of America. In the village of Rhinebeck, the Beekman
Arms and Delamater Inn will be the ideal accommodations during our
visits. The hotel— a member of the National Trust’s Historic Hotels of
America program—has operated continuously since 1766.
I hope you will join us as we discover the unparalleled beauty
and history of the Hudson River Valley.
Sincerely,
Olana
