KEEPING KIDS COOL & HYDRATED AT SCHOOL
As San Diego is facing hotter weather and Santa Ana conditions, schools face the challenges associated with outdoor
recess. Since the Santa Ana winds have picked up, even our ‘non allergy’ kids have started to complain about headaches,
stuffy noses, etc. from pollen clouds.
By working together, we can mitigate this problem and keep kids safe from the heat. You can send your children to
school ready to deal with the heat by:
• Sending students with a water bottle on hot days
• Making sure kids have a cap with a brim that protects their face when they are outdoors (they must take off
their cap when indoors)
• Talking to your child about the dangers of getting overheated
• Also, please make sure to apply sunscreen to your child before school, as school staff are not permitted
to apply it
In addition, our staff is exercising caution and paying extra attention so that students do not become over heated by:
• Having a modified lunch for Elementary where students eat lunch inside for 15-20 mins, limiting time
outside playing on the hot asphalt
• Allowing water bottles at school so that teachers make sure their students have plenty of liquids
• Encourage sipping water frequently after time spent following physical activity
• When possible, conducting activities in the shade
Just a reminder to please report medical concerns to Mrs. Winter, our School Nurse. Please cooperate with her
attempts to maintain up-to-date medical records on your child. Failure to do so may result in your child’s exclusion
from school. Children who become ill during the day will receive immediate attention. You will be called to pick up
your child if your child is too ill to return to class.
ROBOTICS TEAMS UP AND RUNNING!
Excitement is building for our Robotics program, which is
growing this year. We have teams coming together in
Elementary and Junior High, getting ready to design,
engineer, program and build. Meetings are taking place after
school almost every day of the week.
Questions? Contact Aaron Rogers
Last year’s team had fun completing their missions!

MOMS IN PRAYER WELCOMES YOU!
We Meet Monday Mornings from 8:20-9:20am in the After School Care Program (ASCP) Room # C110. (The ASCP doorway is located at the north end of the courtyard, before the archway to the playground.) Moms In Prayer is an open
invitation to come when you can (coming once is not a commitment to attend every meeting). Experience the joy of
replacing anxiety with peace and hope when you pray with other moms.
Who are we?
• Moms In Prayer International is a worldwide community
of moms praying for children & schools.
• An interdenominational, Christ-centered prayer ministry.
• Women who pray together on a regular basis for children
and schools.
• Moms, grandmas, aunts – any woman desiring to pray for
children and schools.
What’s our purpose?
• To pray for our children, teachers, staff, and schools.
• To pray that our schools will be directed by biblical values and
high moral standards.
• To provide hope and strength to moms who carry heavy
burdens for their children.

BRING IN THOSE BOX TOPS
Yes! Yes! Yes! We will be collecting Box Tops in all three divisions again this year! Hopefully, you have a stock pile of
Box Tops that you have been collecting over the summer.
Elementary, grades K-5, will be competing grade by grade, as well as Junior High, grades 6-8, and High School, grades
9-12. The grade that turns in the most Box Tops, for each division, will be awarded a “Free Dress” Day!! We will have
a new competition for all 4 quarters!
Here’s what you do – rip, clip, or snip Box Tops off of the packages where they are found. Put the Box Tops in a baggy
with your grade # on it. Then turn them in to your teacher, to the box at the front office counter, or put them in Mrs.
Turner’s mail box, or give them to me personally.
Can’t wait for those “Box Tops” to start rolling in!! I have already had some 2nd graders turn Box Tops in on the first day
of school! Ready, Set, GO!!! -Mrs. Turner
WELCOME BACK, FROM PAC!
MCS Parent Action Committee is made up of parent volunteers that plan and implement family events, fellowship opportunities, and service opportunities that support MCS. There is NO membership or required meetings! It is a great
way to be involved, informed, and get to know other parents. Working? No problem! Many of our events are in the
evening – some are even on Saturdays!! We would love to have you!
Are you looking to get more involved and connect with other parents while serving the school? PAC is looking for
“helping hands” to be involved in family events throughout the year. If you would like to be a part of one of these
events, please contact Katie Scherpbier or Brigit Sheng.

HP PRIME GRAPHING CALCULATOR GRANT
We have an amazing new resource on our campus this year – wireless enabled graphing
calculators. This summer Mrs. Williams participated in a 3-day AP Statistics Summer

Solution. At the conclusion of the training, MCS received a grant of an
HP Prime Class Kit with 30 wireless-enabled calculators (a $5,000 value)!
These calculators will be used this year in the AP Statistics class, with
the plan to expand into other HS math classes next year.
Features of this calculator include: full color, touch-enabled, College Board
Approved for SAT, AP Exams, pinch and zoom, gesture user interface, statistics and calculus packages, and emulators and apps for device integration.
Features of the wireless kit include: wireless connectivity to each calculator in the classroom, capacity

SUPPORT MCS WHEN YOU SHOP AT AMAZON.COM
Want to shop at Amazon and support MCS at the same time? This is so easy! Instead of going directly to Amazon.com,
go to our website, click on Quick Links and then Amazon Link (right at the top). MCS will get a percentage of what you
buy. Anything that Amazon sells (except Kindle books) earns money for MCS! So, shop away and MCS benefits!
SCOOP ON SCRIP
WHAT IS SCRIP? Scrip is another term for gift cards. Scrip allows families to raise $$$ for Maranatha Christian Schools
and set up a student scholarship fund that will be used as a reduction in your student’s tuition.
Families buy gift cards at face value. Great Lakes Scrip credits our school a % of each card purchased. Last year some
families reduced their tuition by nearly $500.00 and also helped fund PAC programs.
HOW DO YOU GET STARTED? Go to www.shopwithscrip.com. Click on the green “set up a family account box”. Enter
your information including Maranatha’s enrollment code: ACD5261831372.
You then sign up for Presto Pay. This is how you pay for your cards online. Once you are set-up
allow three days for your account to activate and then you can start ordering your scrip cards.
FUTURE ORDERS Simply order your cards each Monday 8:00am and you will receive your cards the same week on
Thursday.
SCRIP NOW if you would like to shop “NOW” check out the SCRIP NOW merchants and print off vouchers right off
your computer. Go to the website www.shopwithscrip.com. Click on SCRIP NOW. All the participating merchants are
waiting for your purchase. Follow the prompts and print your voucher on your printer. It’s that easy… Any questions
