State Recognition
6th Grade House
6th Grade has been on a writing roll! After finishing
the unit on personal narratives, we charged into argumentative writing. Students are sharpening their
thinking skills about characters in literature and how
they are developed.
Students have also been studying weather and water.
They began by looking at the current water crisis in
Flint, Michigan and learning about the lack of fresh
water available to people around the world. This
lead to research on the importance of bottled water
and studying the negative effects that plastics have
on our environment. Students are now conducting
experiments in class that focus on air pressure,
weather fronts, and the water
cycle.

The West Milwaukee wrestling team has been on
the rise over the past few seasons. In 2015 the
team won the Conference Tournament Championship and this year we finished 9-1, Dual Meet
Conference Champions, and Runner up in the
Conference Tournament Championship.
These accomplishments are due to the support of
the school and all the wrestlers putting in the time
every day at practice. Our team this year has
done a couple of things no other West Wrestling
team has ever done in beating Frank Lloyd
Wright, Lane, and Lincoln for the City Championship/Dual Meet Title.
The wrestling team hopes to continue their success into the future after such a great performance
at the Conference Tournament and get more students involved with our team.
Coach Matysik
Students in Ms. Wagner’s Social Studies hard at
work enjoying some of the great weather.
The seventh grade Balanced Literacy classes are
working on forming solid arguments. This unit will
culminate in the typically very popular in-class debates!
In Social Studies, students are battling their way
through the Revolutionary War and will soon journey with our forefathers through the creation of this
country. With the upcoming elections, this is an excellent time to cover the basics of government.
8th Grade History
In 8th grade History we are finishing a Unit up on
Manifest Destiny (westward expansion) and culminating it with an argument essay (CER) on The Alamo.
By next week we will be venturing into the causes
of the Civil War and learning more about the costs
of that war and other wars!
