We continue to use the masterful work of Cristobal Balenciaga as our macro trend to
re-interpret two of our season’s key themes: Balencia-Gaga and Elegant Angst for the
woven, jersey and denim market. Balencia-Gaga’s cocoon silhouettes, dropped waistlines and ¾ length sleeves are contrasted with graphic Sonia Delaunay inspired prints
and houndstooth in elegant miniature and playful oversized versions.
Eye popping Hibiscus red and Wild Orchid pink combined with this season’s must-have
muted brights Emberglow and Southern Moss, create an irresistible sophisticated look
when finished off with the season’s basic colours Dark navy and White Swan.
Crepe and jacquard fabrics, 3D textured jerseys and scuba like fabrics are key to creating the minimal structural shapes we have grown accustomed to.
In Balencia-Gaga our raccoon mascot is represented in a sophisticated all over diagonal
printed blouse, while in Elegant Angst we applied it to a black sweat with tone-on-tone
sequins.
To continue with Elegant Angst’s fascination with the grunge revival, we focus on basic
Blacks and Dove Grey combined with the season’s Deep Purple, Balsam Green and earthy
Burlwood Brown. Multi-coloured lurex, body contouring lace and mesh and imitation
leather collar detailing give deconstructed drapey and asymmetrical silhouettes an
elegant modern twist.
Prints include a traditional tartan, a split polka dot and a cracked clay print which is key
to Fall 2012’s fascination with nature inspired prints.
Balencia-Gaga and Elegant Angst come from the same macro trend, giving the collection a very branded coherent feel. This still allows us to go in two different themed directions so we can cater to our global customer base and offer them a variety of musthave silhouettes, colours, prints, fabrics and detailing for the start of Fall/Winter 2012.

fabrics & colours
Balencia-Gaga colors are classic mid-century modern. Hot pink is offset by
creamy beige, while sumptuous orange and avocado green offer full, rich tones
that conjure interiors of the era. Orange-red offers a hot punch of color, harmoniously clashing against the rest of the range. Camel is a key neutral, offering a
chic base for brighter hues. The palette is combined in eye-catching geometric
patterns, textural weaves and knits and sophisticated color blocking.
Fabrics range from nubbly tweeds to flat dense woolens. Intentionally pilled
surfaces and tweeds made from extraslubby yarns. Fine-gauge yet opaque
jerseys, often infused with stretch, are used for scuba-slim tops, while stiff taffetas and bonded leathers have enough bounce and body to hold new sculptural shapes. Touches of Lurex® and innovative Mylar®-dipped knits add a subtle
futuristic feel that hints at the technology-obsessed space-race days. Shaggy
furs and padded effects provide luxurious textures and give garments even
more volume and dimension.

fabrics & colours
The dark romance of Elegant Angst is echoed in its moody palette. Muted jewel tones emphasize the alluring nonchalance of the trend, while
a faded rose shows its softer side. Muddied browns give items a heavy,
emotional feel, and industrial greys offer a cool counterpoint. The tones
come together for grunge-influenced plaids and grainy texture patterns.
Luxurious fluidity is key for Elegant Angst materials. Fine jerseys and
liquid silks and satins allow for graceful gathering and draping. Chunky
yarns – often marled or space-dyed – are used for oversized sweaters,
while featherweight chiffons give garments an ethereal feel. Gutsy
yet ultra-soft tweeds – especially new salt-and-pepper versions – are
perfect for slouchy tailored looks. Supple black leathers project both
toughness and indulgence, while nylon and other synthetics return for
chic versions of the anorak and puffer coat.
