Trust Grace®‘s Long History and
Experience in Package Desiccants
Helping You Deliver high Quality
Products to Your Customers
Grace® pioneered the concept of protecting package
contents with the desiccant properties of silica gel
back in 1913. Since then, our materials science
expertise and manufacturing capabilities have continued
to expand and today Grace is the word‘s largest
manufacturer of specialty silica gel.
Packaging engineers and quality control engineers rely
on the desiccant properties of silica gel to insure the
successful delivery and high quality of their products.
Final quality has a significant influence on customer
satisfaction.
Grace‘s commitment to quality is exemplified by our ISO
9001 certification, LEAN Six-Sigma processes, culture of
continuous improvement and our dedication to deliver
high quality products to our customers.
Grace‘s material‘s expertise extends beyond silica to
encompass molecular sieves, catalysts, packaging
technologies, construction products, and process
chemicals.
Grace® packaged desiccants are a highly effective way to
maintain product integrity in today’s global supply chain.
Applications
Grace® packaged desiccants meet military specification
MIL-D-3464E and are approved for direct contact with
food. The portfolio is formed from our extensive expertise in the utilization of materials science to packaging
issues. Our products are flexible and robust enough for
a multitude of applications:
The adsorbent properties of silica packets such as
these made by Grace are widely recognized due
to their extensive use in a range of consumer and
industrial products.

Choosing the Right Dessicant

Silica Gel vs. Clay
Indicating Silica Gels
Grace® Silica Gel is a pure, chemically inert, amorphous
silica. Its high adsorption capacity is attributed to its
millions of tiny pores. The mechanism of adsorption is
purely physical, with no change in size or shape of the
particles even as they become saturated. Even when
fully saturated, the material still looks and feels dry. The
highly porous nature of Grace® Silica Gel allows it to “lock
away” moisture in its internal pores. By contrast, when
clay becomes saturated, it becomes a wet mud that can
seap out of the bag.
Grace® Indicating Silica Gels can be used as a general
indicator of the water content (relative humidity) of the
gas in contact with the silica gel. As the gas becomes
more saturated with water, the gel will change color.
When used in combination with Grace high capacity
silica adsorbents, indicating silicas are effective tools
to get the most efficiency from your desiccant.

Experience the Grace® Difference
Backed by decades of experience, Grace is more than
a desiccant supplier. We understand the material
science for your moisture protection application and
can provide the highest performance materials for
your specific application. Our high performance
desiccants ensure your customers are satisfied when
their products arrive. When navigating today’s complex
and extended supply chain, the difference is Grace.

A Proven Portfolio
Grace® standard size silica gel packaged desiccants
are designed to meet the broadest possible range of
packaging applications and configurations.
Our comprehensive product portfolio has the configuration that is ideal for your application.
Consult your local sales representative for assistance.
Listed below are only a few of our most popular desiccant
configurations.
What is a unit? How much do I need?
A unit equals the amount of desiccant needed to adsorb
3.0 g of water at 20% r.h. and 6.0 g of water at 40% r.h.
Grace® Silica Gel unit weight is 23.5 grams. As a rule, one
unit is required per cubic foot of volume in rigid, sealed
containers, or one unit per 100 square inch area for
sealed, flexible containers.
