Since 1989, the volunteers of the FMH Development Council have played a key role in building the charitable support
that the hospital needs to provide state-of-the-art healthcare to the people of this community. Most recently, their
efforts have been focused on raising funds for the hospital’s new Cancer Institute through The Time is Now campaign.
In early February, the Development Council’s efforts had resulted in campaign contributions that were approaching $13
million, representing a cross-section of the community’s generosity.
On February 19, 2016, Frederick Memorial Hospital received the most generous, non-estate gift in its history. A $3 million
contribution from native Fredericktonian and longtime hospital supporter James M. Stockman has increased the total
amount raised for The Time is Now campaign to nearly $16 million. In recognition of this extraordinary gift, the hospital’s
new cancer care facility will be named the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute.
Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Stockman and all of our campaign donors, Frederick will have the very best in leading
edge cancer care, close to home.

Development Council
At the heart of the hospital’s fundraising efforts is a core of volunteers called the FMH Development Council. Led by Dr. P. Gregory Rausch, Chair, and
Jeffrey I. Hurwitz, Vice Chair, the Development Council is comprised of more than 75 community and business leaders. This dedicated group has
helped continue the tradition of philanthropy that has been the cornerstone of the hospital’s ability to meet the community’s healthcare needs for well
over a century. Founded in 1989, the Development Council’s efforts have raised more than $73 million for renovation, new construction, service line
enhancement, and new and replacement medical technology at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

New Cancer Institute Named for James M. Stockman
Lifelong Frederick resident James M.
“Jim” Stockman has presented Frederick
Memorial Hospital with a gift of
$3 million, the largest non-estate gift in
the organization’s history. Mr. Stockman’s
gift is earmarked for the hospital’s new
state-of-the-art Cancer Institute, scheduled
to open in the summer of 2017.

entrepreneur, began his support
of Frederick Memorial Hospital in
1993 with a $50 gift. His generosity
has continued throughout the years,
culminating in an historic $3 million gift
that will change the face of cancer care
in our community.
Campaign Update

receive intravenous chemotherapy, hydration and other medications.
Located on the hospital’s Rose Hill campus on Opossumtown Pike, the new
James M. Stockman Cancer Institute will provide a single, convenient location
for the multidisciplinary care of patients with cancer. Medical, surgical and
radiation oncology, as well as all support services, will be under one roof—
making treatment for those battling cancer more manageable than ever before.

Our compassionate, experienced people are
the heart of the FMH cancer care program. For
nearly 40 years, these highly-trained professionals
have provided patients with leading-edge cancer
treatment and therapies, innovative surgical
techniques, access to clinical trials and research,
emotional support and complementary therapies—
helping to earn our program’s reputation for one of
the most comprehensive in the region.
With demand for this high-quality, multidisciplinary
care on the rise, our decision to build a larger home
for our award-winning cancer program was a timely
one. When the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute
is complete, it will house everything our patients
and their loved ones need all under one roof, in one
convenient location.
At double the size of the existing facility, the new
Cancer Institute will allow for more space for the
multidisciplinary, collaborative care that has become
the gold standard in cancer treatment, and provide
room for new technologies, expanded treatment areas
and additional onsite services for patients and families.

One of the cornerstones of the hospital’s charitable giving program is the Order of the Good Samaritan. Founded in 1989,
the Order has grown from 20 to 710 members. Its $18 million in charitable contributions have played a key role in helping
the hospital move forward with renovations, new construction, service line enhancements and the purchase of leading
edge medical technology. Members of the Order of the Good Samaritan support Frederick Memorial Hospital through a
pledge of $10,000 or more over a 10-year period.
In 1994, the Special Gifts Committee of the FMH Development Council established additional giving levels within the
Order of the Good Samaritan.

The 1902 Club
The 1902 Club is a dynamic group of donors who are deeply interested in helping Frederick Memorial Hospital realize
its vision of providing “Superb Quality, Superb Service, All the Time.” Contributions from members help the hospital to
provide necessary new services and state-of-the-art equipment vitally needed to keep pace with today’s rapid advances
in medical technology, as well as providing funds for the expansion of the hospital. Members of the 1902 Club contribute
annually to Frederick Memorial Hospital.

The ACE Club
ACE stands for A Caring Employee. ACE is the giving club through which more than 650 FMH and FMH/Trivergent
employees are showing their support of Frederick Memorial Hospital. To date, members of the ACE Club have pledged
more than $300,000 to help the hospital keep pace with today’s rapid advances in medical technology, and expand its
programs and services. Currently, contributions from the ACE Club are being directed to The Time is Now campaign to
support hospital’s new Cancer Institute.

Angel Fund
When one of our employees experiences a financial crisis caused by a catastrophic situation, his or her co-workers have
created a resource that can sometimes be of help. Known as the Angel Fund, this special resource is an example of how
FMH and Trivergent employees have come together to support one another in a spirit of compassion, stewardship,
timeliness and professionalism. Building on seed money donated in 2008 from members of the Board of Directors and
the senior leadership team, the Angel Fund includes 260 employees who donate regularly through payroll deduction.
The Angel Fund has provided 130 grants totaling more than $97,000 to employees in need.

The FMH Auxiliary made the first signature gift to The Time
is Now campaign, pledging to contribute $1 million over
five years to build a new facility to house the hospital’s
cancer care program. The organization is raising the
funds to fulfill their pledge through many different
projects and events, including the FMH Gift Shop, and
the Select Seconds thrift store in Downtown Frederick.
Both projects are run entirely by volunteers, lowering
overhead and greatly increasing donations to FMH.
The FMH Auxiliary has made a 5-year, $1 million pledge to The Time is Now
campaign in support of the hospital’s new Cancer Institute.
The FMH Gift Shop
This popular variety store is located along the hospital’s recently-opened main corridor connecting the Outpatient
(Green #1) entrance with the rest of the hospital. The newly renovated gift shop is open 365 days a year, including
Thanksgiving and Christmas, offering sodas and snacks, balloons and flowers for all occasions, toys and plush animals, an
assortment of baby items to celebrate new arrivals and many seasonal and gift items.
Select Seconds
A familiar site at 8 East Patrick Street in Downtown Frederick for many years, Select Seconds is a thrift store staffed entirely
by FMH Auxiliary volunteers. In addition to clothing for women, men, children and infants, Select Seconds also has
collectibles, antiques, jewelry, small furniture items, books, toys, games and gift items for sale.
FMH owes a debt of gratitude to the Auxiliary for their tireless service and enthusiastic support. Interested in learning

Did You Know? The Auxiliary’s volunteers bring warmth, comfort and hospitality to our patients and
their families, and support the hospital’s daily operations in dozens of areas. During 2015, 668 FMH Auxiliary
volunteers contributed 85,098.75 hours of service.
Lasting Legacy
Through the years, Frederick Memorial Hospital has been blessed with many benefactors who have created a personal
legacy by supporting our healthcare programs and services through planned gifts. The Lasting Legacy program has been

Meet Robin Rose
Frederick resident Robin Rose has joined the FMH development team as Vice President
and Chief Development Officer. As a member of the FMH senior leadership team, Robin
is responsible for directing all of the Office of Development’s fundraising programs.
Robin brings a unique combination of skills and experience to her role at Frederick
Memorial Hospital. In addition to 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, she has
local philanthropic experience with the Greater Maryland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s
Association, Frederick Community College, Washington County Public Schools and
Heartly House.

other members of the development team to gather support for The Time is Now campaign.

In 2001, Patty and Jeff Hurwitz created the FMH Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund with an initial contribution of $25,000.
Since then, more than $1.3 million dollars has been raised to help the hospital provide the community with the latest
technology for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
