We hope you’ve had a great summer,
and worked and played hard because
Autumn is here and the Christmas madness is about to begin. I don’t know
about you, but this summer was the
busiest one yet for me workwise, and
whether that’s a reflection of the economy improving or just that I’m keeping
myself occupied and out of trouble I
don’t know! The August slowdown certainly didn’t happen for me.
We were so pleased with our first attempt at a Kinetic Magazine, albeit a
cat
mag mostly just highlighting products and ads, that we decided to give
a fullblown magazine a go to help keep
you, the retailers, abreast of Kinetic’s
company news, launches, rebrands,
and even just offer you some beauty
tips and recipes.
With so many unique brands, there’s
always something to say about all of
them at any given time. Rather than
clogging up your inbox with tonnes of
email campaigns, or spamming your
social media, we felt the magazine was
a clean and concise choice of message
delivery.
It’s a great achievement to see something like this come together, especially when we’re such a close knit team.
We hope you enjoy reading it as much
as we have relished in the challenge of
putting it together.
We’d love to know what you think of
the magazine, so why not drop us a line
[email protected] and if
you have anything to contribute to the
next issue be it photos, a question, a
recipe or even an article, please get in
touch.
Enjoy!

Coconut Oil
- Your Must Have Beauty Essential
for These Beauty Recipes
There are SO many ways you can utilise coconut oil in your beauty regime. It’s a question we’re
frequently asked, so we thought we’d share with you the basics and a few recipes for you to try.
FOR HAIR
Coconut Oil is fabulous for deep moisturisation and smoothing. Here are a
few uses for you to try:
• Used as an organic deep conditioner, coconut oil can do wonders for dry
and dull hair. Apply to towel-dried hair
lengths and tips and leave it in for at
least 2-3 hours or, even more effective,
overnight and just rinse it off with shampoo afterwards. With time, the coconut
oil’s fatty acid structure will build up the
hair’s elasticity, add a healthy shine to it
and help to prevent split and dry ends.
• The Taming of the
Shrub: Coconut oil
can easily be used
as hair pomade
to tame stubborn
and frizzy hair. Just
work a tiny amount
of oil into the dry
lengths of the hair.
To prevent the
hair from looking
greasy or weighing
it down, remember
that a little product
goes a long way!
• Applied to the
hair before blow
drying it will work
as an organic heat protection, as the
oil will coat the hair and build a barrier
between the heat and the hair.
• To ease a dry and itchy scalp, massage pure coconut oil onto the scalp.
It will help to reduce the feeling of tension, prevent dandruff and can be a
remedy for eczema.
FOR SKIN
• Applied to the skin, coconut oil can
be used as an organic moisturiser and
may also ease itchiness and skin which
is dry and irritated or suffering from
psoriasis and dermatitis (good basic
skin care!) The oil soaks in quickly,
does not leave a greasy/sticky feeling, does not clog pores and does
not stain clothing. Plus, it will cover
your skin with a slight hint of coconut
smell. Yummy!
• Due to
its naturally
high lauric
acid
content, coconut oil has
antibacteri-
a tiny amount of (firm) coconut oil between the tips of your fingers and gently
massage it onto your eyelids. After that,
take everything off with a cloth or a cotton pad.
• Coconut oil can also be a great substitution for shaving gel or cream, as it
makes the razor glide easily over the
skin, leaving it soft and
moisturised. Say goodbye to dry shins and irritated armpits!
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- ½ tablespoon of coconut oil
- ½ tablespoon of almond
oil (alternatively: olive oil)

FOR HANDS
When massaged into the
nails and cuticles, coconut oil is a great and effective nail treatment and
can help to stimulate nail
growth. It also makes a
great moisturiser for dry
cuticles. Try this nurturing

al properties and therefore represents
an organic alternative to conventional deodorants.
•Fed up with having dry, chapped
lips and applying lip balm every minute in a bid to keep lips hydrated and
smooth? Coconut oil is an excellent and
non-addictive lip balm, which leaves the
lips beautifully soft.
• Being a true skin all-rounder, coconut
oil can also be used as an eye makeup
remover, which does not irritate the
sensitive eye area and gently melts
away mascara and eyeliner. Just melt

FESTIVAL
FEVER
2015 saw not one but two Kinetic brands make their debuts at Great British
festivals. With an increasing number being concerned with the environmental
impact their events have on the surrounding land and the planet itself,
we saw this alignment as the perfect positioning for JASON and Dr Bronner’s.
Both brands’ hair care and body washes are biodegradable and packaging
is manufactured from postc onsumer resin, as well as being recyclable.
JASON GOES TO
GLASTONBURY
One of the most iconic natural beauty brands in the industry was in at-
tendance at arguably the most iconic
music festival in the world, Glastonbury, with Vanity Van. The festival is
the world’s largest greenfield festival,
and is attended by around 175,000
people[1]. Needless to say, when a
mass of people equivalent to the pop-
ulation of Huntingdonshire ascends
on an area the size of a small town,
the organisers are very conscious of
the festival’s footprint. The majority
of staff are volunteers, helping the
festival to raise millions of pounds for
good causes[2], and many charities
and organisations run promotional
or educational stalls, Network Recycling manage refuse on the site, and
in 2004 recycled 300 tonnes and
composted 110 tonnes of waste from
the site.[3]
The Love the Farm, Leave No Trace
6
campaign gently pushes revellers to
respect the environment and clear up
after themselves.[4] It was launched
after the 2007 muddybeyondbelief
washout Glastonbury, where a large
number of tents were left behind,
and one of the cows on the farm died
after ingesting a tent peg left behind.
This led to biodegradable tent pegs
being handed out free to all campers[5] . In 2008 Glastonbury Festival
was awarded The Greener Festival
Award for 2008[6]Vanity Van is
the UK’s leading supplier of mobile
beauty treatments, and regularly attends music and arts festivals up and
down the country. JASON was selected as the hair care brand of choice,
thanks to its green credentials, and
the products went down like a house
on fire with press and public alike.
The best feedback came from one
reveller on Twitter

INTOLERANCEABOUT COELIAC
DISEASE
Coeliac disease is a common condition that affects approximately 1
in every 100 people in the UK, with
around 2/3 female and 1/3 male.
Some experts believe that due to
misdiagnosis the figures might be
even higher.[1]
Many medical experts will argue
that there is no evidence to suggest
that gluten in beauty products will
cause irritation to the skin when
applied to coeliacs, however there
are countless tales of people suffering from reactions. Dr Ron Hoggan
of the Journal of Gluten Sensitivity
states that “Conventional medical
wisdom is that there is no risk to
coeliacs unless the patient gets the
product into their mouth or an open
sore. Yet my daughter tried a cream
that contained oats and developed
a rash that stayed until she stopped
using it.”[2]

my skin and body to behave normally again,” she concludes. [3]

Dr Bronner’s
Magic Soaps
Rebrand
Dr Bronner’s packaging has been modernised with the help of global branding and
marketing guru, Jelly Helm, who has worked with some of the world’s biggest brands
including Nike, Starbucks and Wikipedia. We find out the who, what and why’s.

aging?
Is this still the same products?
Our soap labels are iconic and were developed by Dr Bronner himself! So although
we didn’t want to change them much, we
did want to make the words on the bottle
more readable and generally tighten up
the whole design. We tend to think of the
redesign as a “restoration” as well, since in
developing it our design team took inspiration from the fonts and layouts that Dr.Bronners had used in older bottels, going back
to the 50s and 60s. Additionally, we wanted our whole family of products to be more
cohesive - to look, well, like a family!
The new design
looks pretty similar
to the old design,
what’s different
about it?
There are hundreds of small details that
went into this redesign, but a few of the
more salient features are:
• improved usage advice located on the
right side of our lables
• a new banner at the top that reads “Family Soapmakers Since 1858”
• a lot of work with font selection and font
sizing to make all the text on the bottom
more readable
• a revised logo
• new “certification” area
• a “prayer” or pledge that appears to the
right of our logo
Did you remove any
of the original For all intents and purpose, our products
are the same as before - we have only
changed the design of the labels.
The only small change to formulation is in
our Liquid Soaps, where we’ve replaced a
minor potion of Coconut Oil with Fair Trade
& Organic Palm Kernel Oil from smallholder farms in Ecuador (www.natural-habitats.
com) that creates the same copious foam
as coconut oil.
I noticed that some of the names of the
products have changed, why the new
name?
It’s true we changed some of the names
of our products. In general, our aim with
all of the name changes was to give our
products simple, more descriptive names and to have consistent naming conventions
across our entire family of products. One
example of this is the change of our “Shaving Gel” to “Shaving Soap” which we feel
is more descriptive of what the products is
(though, as stated, the product itself has not
changed).
Is the name of the
company different?
Are you just Dr.Bronner’s now?
We have always been “Dr.Bronner’s” - a
fact that can be seen on old labels that
say “Dr.Bronner’s Pure Castile - Soap”. In
the 70s, after an Esquire article titled “Dr.
Bronner’s Magic Scaps”, people started referring to us by that name, and the name
stuck! On our new labels we honor this her12
itage by placing “Dr.Bronner’s at the top
and including the complete “Dr.Bronner’s
Magic Soaps” on our logo, which refers to
our body care division.
Your logo looks different, why? Sometimes it has stars
above it, what do
those mean?
As we were redesigning our packaging we
decided to also update our logo. We’ve
kept the arms shaking hangs around the
Earth, but have changed the lettering to
reflect the other fonts we use. We have
increased the prominence of “All-One!” which in not just a catch-phrase for us, but
a summation of our driving purpose and
philosophy. On some versions of our logo
you will see stars - these honor Dr.Bronner’s
“cosmic” vision, and are in the shape of
Metatron’s Cube, a sacred geometrical
figure that symbolized the oneness of all
creation.
Your soaps say
“Dr.Bronner’s Magic Soaps” and your
coconut oil says “Dr.
Bronner’s Magic
Foods” - are you still
one company?
Yes we are still one company - Dr.Bronner’s. The two different names refer to the
two product lines within our company: our
body care products line and our food products line.

our 20s and 30s, hormones (both
sex and stress) can be unbalanced
and this tends to manifest itself in
breakouts and blemishes around
the chin and jawline.
Acne is commonly associated
with teen skin, but more and more
women are also experiencing the
condition. For teens, when we hit
puberty, testosterone levels in both
boys and girls can increase, which
causes an overproduction of sebum
from our sebaceous glands. We
need sebum in our skin as it acts as
a natural moisturiser, but when too
much is produced our pores can be-
Many mainstream brands formulated to treat breakouts and acne contain alcohol. This can be very drying
on the skin, and can leave it feeling
tight, too tight for comfort! Whilst
alcohol may help dry up sebum, it
can send our sebaceous glands into
overdrive as they try to compensate
for the lack of sebum in the skin.
In the long run, alcohol-containing
skincare may infact make breakouts
and acne skin worse.
For acne or skin prone to blemishes and breakouts, look for products
to target these problems. Natural

Bark Extract, Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Salicylic Tea Tree Oil, Honey,
Lemon and Oatmeal. Do not look
for products to “dry out” the skin as
this will only cause the affected areas to produce more oil in the long
term, and also do not be scared to
use products that contain the right
types of oil, as oil balances oil in
the skin. Besides from Tea Tree, you
may also wish to consider Bergamot, Clove and Lavender.
Always remember that what you
put in your body affects your skin
as well as what you put on it. Limit
caffeine and alcohol intake, don’t
smoke, and drink water like it is
going out of fashion. Acne can be
caused by deficiency in Zinc and
Essential Fatty Acids. Good sources of zinc include shellfish such as
oysters, beef and lamb, spinach,
cashes and pumpkin seeds. Make
sure you eat a healthy, balanced

and vegetables.

CURRENT
Avalon Organics has been a mainstay in the natural and organic market since the late 90s in the UK.
To the consumer it is a trusted, reliable brand, but the retailers have noticed it is prone to being overlooked on
the shelf. The packaging needed to be more vibrant and modern to sell.
With this in mind, a refresh of the packaging has been underway, to modernise the brands look and feel,
whilst building on Avalon Organics’ organic heritage. The refresh is not exclusive to the body and hair care,
but the skincare systems are also getting a makeover both inside and out. The key formulas have been improved
to enhance products’ efficacy, and deliver better skin results.

Beauty question 2
Beauty Problems Solved!
Antipodes
to the Rescue
Beauty question 1
“My face gets really dry
over the colder months.
What’s your best advice
for keeping it smooth and
soft?”
Our expert says
Protect the skin daily by using a moisturiser with natural plant oils full of essential fatty acids and antioxidants to
help neutralise free radical damage.
A facial oil featuring nutrient rich plant
and seed oils rich in vitamin E and
omega3 and 6 fatty acids will improve
the condition of the skin. Including
serums as part of a daily regime will
help nourish and repair the skin as it
absorbs into the deeper layers of the
skin. Eating foods rich in omega3 fatty
acids can also help improve the condition of your skin. Including a fish oil
supplement may also boost Omega 3
levels. Finally avoid hot water when
taking showers and instead use warm
or lukewarm water best for preventing
parched skin.
We advise
Feed your skin with the following
nutrientrich products for extra nourishment.
Grapeseed Butter Cleanser this cleanser is a godsend for dry,
dehydrated skin as it contains super-nourishing cacao butter, along
with soothing olive and harekeke oil
to moisturise whilst also cleansing.
Divine Face Oil - features the superior collagen-boosting action of avocado oil to help reduce the appearance
of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and
scars, and plumping EFArich rosehip

twist on the classic smokey eye.
Wondering how to recreate? Here are some step by step instructions for recreating
a smokey eye, whichever colour option you go for!
1) Use a makeup primer to cover your eyelid all the way up to the eyebrow.
2) Using the Skinny Dip eyeshadow from your Mystical or Enlighten palette, cover
your eyelid as a further base for the makeup.
3) Using the highlight eyeshadow colour, fill in from your lash line to your socket line.
Blend at the socket line.

Multiples come into play. There are three colours on the
palette which all blend effortlessly for shimmering highlights,
glowing illumination and beautiful contours
Contouring
We all love fresh, dewy skin but
sometimes recreating the look can
prove more difficult. We’re going
to let you into a few tips of the
trade on how to best achieve the “no makeup m
 akeup”
look. To perfect your skin, and have all the world guessing
“is she, isn’t she”, follow these key stages.
Fresh Faced
Firstly, thoroughly cleanse and tone your skin with Pacifica
Sea Foam Face Wash and a toner of your choice. We recommend Antipodes Ananda Hydrating Gentle Toner. Make
sure you follow a good skincare regimen and exfoliate and
treat your skin regularly, dependent upon your skin’s needs.
Those concerned about anti-ageing the skin may wish to try
Pacifica Sea Change Youth Serum.
Next, apply your moisturiser, but in a slightly different way;
use your foundation blush to ensure
greater and more even coverage as well as provide a
great base for the actual makeup. Pacifica Day & Night
Cream is suited to most skin types.
Skip the heavy foundation and apply a sheer layer of
coverage from either Alight MultiMineral BB Cream or Ultra
CC Cream with SPF17, available in 2 shared, Warm/Light
and Natural/Medium. The CC Cream offers slightly more
coverage and SPF, whereas the BB Cream is light coverage
and more like a tinted moisturiser.
Finish with a translucent powder, such as Antipodes Skin
Brightening Finishing Powder. If you want to add a slight
flush to your cheeks use the Pacifica Radiant Shimmer
Coconut Multiples.

Boosting Immunity
This Winter
What are the common reasons that
immune
systems
can be lowered?
Immune systems can be lowered when
people are ill, stressed, tired or run
down. A poor diet can also lower immunity. The young and old are more
susceptible to low immunity, as the former are building their immune system,
and our immune system weakens as we
age.
Why are people
more susceptible to
getting a cold come
the autumn months?
People are more susceptible to colds and
flu in the winter months due to a number
of external factors. Firstly, in the winter
months we tend to spend a lot more time
indoors, in closed air circulation areas
in close proximity to others. This means
that any infections or viruses carried
are much more easily spread. Another
reason is that many viruses thrive in the
slightly cooler climate. Influenza for instance is most stable at 5 degrees Celsius. Finally the change in humidity also
affects the likelihood of infection. Most
viruses are spread through the air on
water droplets, and the drier the environment, the more time the droplets carrying the virus hang around in the air,
opposed to a humid climate where the
water molecules are attracted to each
other and fall to the ground before we
have a chance to breathe them in.
Dietary wise, what are the key culprits
for lowering immunity, and what foods
would you recommend that can support
the immune system?
The change in our diet from the winter
to summer could also be partially responsible for our susceptibility. In the
summer months we are automatically
more inclined to eat fruits, salads and a
more varied diet whereas in wintertime
we may tend to reach for the sugary,
salty snacks, comfort eating, as well as
stocking up on stodge at meal times.
Also, the tendency to cook vegetables
in winter opposed to eating them raw
means much of the nutrient content is
lost. As well as still trying to incorporate
raw, colourful vegetables into your diet
and including fruit, cook your vegetables in ways that cause the least damage to their nutrient content, namely
steaming, grilling and roasting.
Eating a diet rich in high quality protein can aid immunity, as it has been
shown that when bodies lack protein
they lose their ability to make antibodies, and immune cells become depleted. It’s also important to eat a vitamin
rich diet. All vitamins play their part
in immunity in one way or another,
be it vitamin C promoting phagocyte
function and supporting Tcell function,
or vitamin E supporting a healthy inflammatory response. Minerals also
play their part in our immune systems,
in particular zinc a potent immuno
stimulant and a deficiency in it has
been shown to suppress T-cell function
– along with iron, copper, chromium,
selenium and manganese. Antioxidants and phytonutrients found in col28

Elderberr y – powerful actives in
these berries have an incredible effect in the body preventing flu
viruses entering the cells of the
body. Elder is also beneficial for
treating sore throats and infections.
Echinacea – the root of the plant
is antiinflammatory so limits symptoms of cold and flu by reducing
mucus production, whilst the aerial
part of the plant is antiv iral.
Propolis contains proteins and
compounds that have the ability to
alter and regulate the immune system, and which possess antibacterial and antiv iral benefits.
Manuka Honey – offers broad spectrum protection against a variety of
infectious organisms including bacteria, microbes, viruses, fungi and
protozoa. When buying manuka

Astragalus – has antibacterial and
antiinflammatory properties and
protects and supports the immune
system and is particularly effective
at preventing colds and upper respiratory infections
Gingko Biloba – works by improving blood circulation and has an
antiinflammatory effect in the upper respiratory system
Ginseng – Korean Ginseng has
been shown to increase the active
response of the immune system in
people suffering from bronchitis,
whilst Siberian Ginseng has been
shown to boost the number of functioning immune system cells
Why is vitamin C always recommended during cold and flu season?
As well as being an antioxidant,
fighting free radical damage, vitamin C acts in a number of ways to
support a healthy immune response
in a number of physiological and
biological ways. It is thought that
vitamin C attacks the nucleic acid
of the virus cells, fighting bacteria
until dead. Vitamin C also supports the production of interferons, enhances phagocyte function
including nitric oxide production,
supports antibody production and
activity, supports cellm ediated immune response, enhances cytokine
production, inhibits various forms
of T-lymphocyte death, enhances
T-lymphocyte and B-lymphocyte
production, inhibits neuraminidase
production, supports natural killer
cell activity, detoxifies histamine,
enhances mucolytic effect, enhances prostaglandin formation, and
more!
ourful fruits and vegetables are also
important in supporting the immune
system.
What are your top
supplement recommendations for a
strong immune system?
A multivitamin and mineral, ensuring
that levels of B and C vitamins are
high, or failing that taking a separate supplement that contains these,
you can find B complex supplements
combined with vitamin C. You may
also wish to choose a vitamin D supplement, as in the wintertime the sun
is not strong enough for us to naturally create vitamin D. Our stores last
about 3 months from summer, which
leaves us with around another 3
months where we could be deficient.
There are some natural remedies that
you may wish to consider taking before falling ill to boost your immunity

Boosting beneficial bacteria
shown to support cardiometabolic
health in overweight individuals
Carrying excess body fat is known to alter the way the body processes carbohydrates and fat,
and can lead to unwanted cardiometabolic changes over the long term. While there are numerous treatment options available, such as special diets, physical activity and other conventional
therapies, the risks associated with excess weight are considerable. Scientists continue to explore
new ways of improving the health of individuals fighting the so-called battle of the bulge.
It has recently been found that various biochemical and metabolic differences exist between overweight
and lean persons, one of which is
the diversity of the bacteria housed
within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Intestinal bacteria, which outnumber our own human cells by ten
to one, provide a significant contribution to many bodily functions.
The beneficial bacteria we harbor
in our guts play a profound role in
the health of the immune system,
the skin, and even protect cells and
DNA from oxidative damage. A
disruption of their delicate balance
can leave us vulnerable to unwanted metabolic changes and illnesses. In recent studies highlighting the
differences in intestinal bacteria in
the guts of individuals of varying
weights (differences that have also
been identified among individuals
with blood sugar challenges), scientists have begun to investigate a
novel treatment that can potentially
harness the power of these bacteria to combat obesity through the
supplementation of prebiotics and/
or synbiotics (a blend of probiotics
and prebiotics).
The first meta-analysis on the sub-
ject recently examined the effects
of both prebiotics and synbiotics
on key metabolic markers in overweight and obese adults. A systematic search was conducted using
various and known research databases; studies were eligible for
inclusion if they were randomized,
controlled, clinical trials which used
a prebiotic or synbiotic intervention in obese or overweight (body
mass index (BMI) over 25 kg/m2)
adults between 18 and 65 years
old. Plasma lipids, fasting insulin
or fasting glucose were assessed
as outcomes, and two independent
reviewers checked the studies for
quality before including them in the
analysis.
Specifically, the extensive review
looked at key biomarkers including total cholesterol, lowd ensity
lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc ), high
density lipoprotein (HDLc ), triglycerides, fasting glucose, and fasting
insulin in a total of 13 studies involving 513 overweight or obese
participants. Nine of the studies
administered prebiotics, primarily
derived from inulin or fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a sweet tasting
30
sugar polymer that feeds good bacteria, at doses ranging from 5.5
21 grams per day. Studies on synbiotics provided FOS at a maximum
dose of 2.5 grams per day, along
with common probiotic strains including Bifidobacterium, and/or
Lactobacillus, and/or Streptococcus at doses ranging from 200 to
5 billion colony forming units (CFU)
per day.

discomfort, the authors noted that
some of the effects may have been
due to the content of fructans and
galactans, members of a group
of shortc hain carbohydrates and
sugar alcohols which are poorly
absorbed in the GI tract, called
FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols). FODMAPs
have been investigated in recent
years due to their ability to induce
various intestinal symptoms among
certain people. Nevertheless, most
of the individuals in the study resisted study dropout, despite reports of
GI discomfort, indicating that there
may be a digestive adaptation period to these compounds.
By establishing the presence of a
clear difference in the microbiota of
lean and obese individuals, both in
composition and function, this meta
analysis suggests a new clinical value for supplementation of prebiotics
and synbiotics in the management
of obesityr elated cardiometabolic health concerns. The authors
speculated that the powerful effects
seen from prebiotics and synbiotics
on cardiometabolic outcomes likely stem from the effects of inulin,
previously been shown to have a
lowering effect in individuals with
imbalanced blood lipids. The positive effects seen in participants
with blood sugar concerns were
thought to stem from the presence
of already elevated triglycerides as
well as lower HDLc concentrations,
commonly found in insulin resist-
What they found was that supplementation with prebiotics significantly supported normal levels of
total and LDL cholesterol in obese
participants, as well as triglycerides
and HDLc levels among participants
with blood sugar concerns. A significant improvement in fasting insulin was observed as well, though
no significant effects were observed
regarding fasting glucose. Synbiotic supplementation was also found
to support healthy levels of triglycerides and fasting insulin in the
general population.
ant individuals. Although no specific biochemical mechanism was
suggested to explain these effects,
it’s been theorized that probiotic
bacteria may affect metabolism by
modulating inflammation and that
synbiotics may both improve gut microbiota composition and attenuate
proinflammatory pathways.

Recipes from the Nutiva Kitchen
The Miracle of
Red Palm Oil
WHAT IS RED PALM
OIL?
To put it simply Nutiva red palm oil is
derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree
(Elaeis guineensis). It is referred to as
“red palm oil” because of the rich, dark
red color of the palm berry fruit.
WHAT DOES NUTIVA RED PALM OIL
TASTE LIKE?
You may not yet be familiar with the
amazing nutrition and taste of red palmoil, but for over 5,000 years it has
been a staple of indigenous cultures.
Legend has it that this sacred food was
revered for its healthful properties and
entombed with the pharaohs of ancient
Egypt for their enjoyment in the afterlife. Some red palm oils have what
might be described as a harsh or strong
odour and flavour. We have a proprietary coldfiltration process that results in
a delicate, buttery flavor excellent for
cooking and baking. We’re often asked
if our red palm oil is raw. Fresh harvested organic palm fruit bunches are
steamed to release the oil from the fruit,
then expellerpressed to further separate
the oil. All palm oil is extracted in this
way; there is no 100 percent raw red
palm oil. This steam extraction / cold
filtration process helps retain the wonderful nutrient benefits.

WHAT ARE THE
NUTRITIONAL
BENEFITS OF RED
PALM OIL?
Red palm oil is a nutrientdense culinary
oil. Its rich orange colour reveals the
presence of antioxidant vitmins A and
E, in the forms of betacarotene and
rare tocotrienols and tocopherols of the
vitamin E family. These nutrients provide
colour to vegetables and fruits such as
carrots and tomatoes. Red palm oil also
contains at least ten other carotenes,
including the antioxidants, tocopherols
and tocotrienols (vitamin E). The end result is a delicious buttery oil with a mild
carroty flavour.
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS
8 chicken drumsticks
4 Tbsp. Nutiva Organic Red Palm Oil
2 medium lemons + zest (juiced)
2 tbsp. parsley (fresh)
1.5 tsp. ground pepper
3 tbsp Nutiva Organic Red Palm Oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp chili pepper flakes
200g red lentils (rinsed)
1 onion, coarsely chopped
250ml water
100g Nutiva Organic Coconut MannaTM (melted)
1⁄4 tsp turmeric
2 large handfuls of spinach (coarsely chopped)
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp. kosher salt
METHOD
1. Gather and measure all ingredients. If cooking in an oven, preheat to Gas Mark 3
2. Place the chicken drumsticks in a large bowl, and coat them with the melted Red Palm Oil.
3. Add the salt, pepper and parsley and stir together well.
METHOD
4. Transfer mixture to a slow cooker, or place in a cooking pot for oven cooking.
5. Using a grater, zest the two lemons over the mixture in slow cooker. Once the lemons have been fully zested, squeeze the juice from both over the chicken drummies.
