Hi all,
I will see everyone at the Apple Blossom Parade and at the meeting. My knee is fine and I'm back in action.
Don't forget we need cars for the Saturday Grand Feature Parade.

I am also pretty disappointed that no one would step up and handle the Poorman’s tour. If we don't have enough interest in participating, maybe we should tell the Queen City Region it's canceled.
The Apple Blossom Car Show is two weeks away! We need to get
the cars ready and we need help. Field set up requires many people to
get the area laid out.

Members are needed to help
lay out the show field and flea
market field, and paint space
numbers on the grass.
This is a “potluck” meeting. The
Club will provide the meat entrée. Please bring a “covered
dish” (appetizer, salad, veg side,
dessert) to share, and your own
dinner plate, tableware, tablecloth and beverage.
Don’t forget the serving spoons!
Everyone who is available and
able to walk the fields, please
come and help. More hands gets
the job done quicker !!

Club members in Hopper Top 25
On April 10, a very bright,
sunny, but very cool day, the
Hopper's Auto Club hosted
their spring "Cars-For-A-
Cause" auto show at Shenandoah University.
Jerry won top 25 plaques for
their cars.
There were plenty of antique stock, hot rods, and
modified cars at this years
show. The Shenandoah Region Club was represented by
Jim Tillery, with his 1955 Plymouth Belvedere Club Coupe
and Jerry Lunt, with his 1935
Ford Deluxe 5-Window Rumble Seat Coupe. Both Jim and
Way to go Jim & Jerry.

club shelter, Jim Barnett park. It’s

 June 4 — 26th annual Orphan Car
Tour, known this year as the
"Arundel Steeple Chase". Morning
car show at 10:00 a.m. ("The Orphan Car Showcase"), the traditional
afternoon driving tour which starts
at noon, and a 4:00 p.m. buffet dinner. (The public is welcome to attend the car show.) The Tour is
open to antique "orphan" (no longer
manufactured) vehicles, and will be
held rain or shine.
Participants will meet at the Annapolis Moose Lodge at 1980 Crownsville
Rd. starting at 9:00 AM. At noon,
after the two-hour "orphan" car
show, cars will be released onto the

Starting just west of Winchester Medical Center,
from the intersection of
Route 37 and Route 50 -Drive west on Route 50
(Northwestern Pike) for approximately 2 miles.
(Round Hill Road). At 0.3
miles, turn right at Church
rear driveway (Trinity Lane)
into the parking lot. The
Fellowship Hall entry is at
the bottom level, rear of
Church, off the parking lot.
Shortly after crossing Nat’l
Lutheran Blvd., turn left on
Rte 654 (Poorhouse Rd)
If you are driving east on
Route 50, you can turn right
directly into the front driveway of the Church. Proceed

SRAACA April Fun Run lives up to name
On April 3rd, the Shenandoah Region of the AACA
launched the 2016 season
with a “fun run” to the Washington County Rural Heritage
Museum located at the Agricultural Education Center in
Boonsboro, Maryland.

after a delightful
trip through the
byways of West
Virginia and Maryland.
The intrepid group met at
the Triple J 7-11 near Berryville at 1300 to begin the trip.
We were led by Art Bragg
and Eric Kirk, who together
checked out the route and
provided extensive, thorough
directions for the day’s run.
The museum is
a three-building
complex, with the
first being the 19th
century family
building (how they
lived). There were several
sample rooms showing how
farm life existed then, including a one-room schoolhouse,
complete with teacher. There
were also several demonstrations going on at the same
time, such as a weaving demonstration, and quilting.
The group of eight vehicles
set out with Art in the lead,
and with Eric bringing up the
rear to ensure the group’s integrity. We traveled through
Summit Point, and on to and
A docent from the museum
provided some classic church
music on the Moller pipe organ in the hall. The Moller
organ was built in nearby
Hagerstown, and was a great
example of the instrument.

89th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Grand Feature Parade
As in year's past, our club
will once again participate in
the Apple Blossom Grand
Feature Parade. The parade
is scheduled for Saturday, 30
April at 1:00 p.m.
We will be in the preparade, so the cars move
fairly quickly through the parade course, (helps to reduce
over-heating). Prior to the
parade, I will inform all participants of exact location of
departure point and time.
Don’t miss

showcase our club and our
cars to thousands of locals
and visitors so lets get those
cars out of mothballs and onto
the parade field.

The Orphan Tour is held annually in
the greater Washington-Baltimore
area.
Orphans are defined as cars or
trucks at least 25 years old produced
either by now-defunct manufacturers, or by the discontinued divisions
of surviving companies. Tour sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Packards (a
region of The Packard Club), the
Potomac Chapter of the Studebaker
Drivers Club, the Keystone Region
Chapter of the S.D.C., the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the HudsonEssex-Terraplane Club, The DeSoto
Owners Club of Maryland, and the
Potomac Ramblers chapter of
the American Motors Owners Association and AMC Rambler Club.

the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince
William Street. Antique and street
rod cars and trucks — over 150
vehicles last year! — may take
part. Fifty "class" trophies and 12
special awards are awarded. Flea
market, car corral, door prizes, and
silent auction are also planned.
Other highlights include two ModelT Ford assembly demonstrations.

admission and free garage parking

Monthly Sunday Fun Runs
* May 22: “A Look at the Past”— Meet at 1:00
p.m. Winchester Frederick County Historical Society,
1340 S. Pleasant Valley Road.
Directions: Turn off Pleasant Valley Road by the visitors’ center. Enter lower entrance of the
Hollingsworth Mill next to Abrams Delight.
We will see many interesting items at the
Hollingsworth Mill. A time to reminisce of businesses
in Frederick County and Winchester. Shenandoah
Region member Art Bragg has loaned them 124 items
for this exciting display. After Hollingsworth, we’ll go
next door to Abrams Delight Museum built in 1754,
the oldest House in Winchester.
From there we’ll motor downtown to visit George
Washington’s Office Museum. This small log cabin
located on the corner of Braddock and Cork Streets
was his office between September 1755 and December
1756. Experience the “George Washington and the
West” exhibit.
Once we finish our tour of George Washington’s office
you will receive information for our next surprise visit
in the Kernstown area. We are expected there between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m.
I expect a good turnout of region members and prospective members for this Sunday run and all those I
have planned for May through August.

The second building is the
farm building (how they made
their living). It is chocked full
of farm machinery which
traced the development of machines, such as a threshing
machine, a reaper of the Cyrus
McCormick type, plows and
other tools that the farmers
made use of from the late
1800s into the early 1900s.
There was also a static demonstration of hog butchering,
milking, butter churning and
several other displays of farming.
The third building is the
transportation building (how
they traveled). In this building are antique cars, bikes,
trucks, etc.
Here are the only two Dagmar automobiles known to exist, the Norwalk Underslung,
built in Martinsburg, Eric
Kirk’s own Paige, and several
other cars and trucks, some of

which have participated in our
Apple Blossom shows in past
years.
The Thomas collection of
memorabilia, such as sleigh
bells, Good Humor truck bells,
harness bells, along with
spark plugs, keys and many
more items of automobile interest are prominently displayed.
The carriages
are from the
Estate of the
Daughren’s of
Washington
County. Admiral Daughren
was the Navy
Admiral for
Abraham Lincoln. The carriages were
donated to the
Museum from
the estate of
Shenandoah Region member
Charles R. “Bud” Smith.
Along with the cars in the
museum, there was a truck
show on the grounds nearby,
with numerous over-the-road
tractors on display. The
trucks shown covered a wide
range of marques, such as Diamond T, Peterbilt, Ford and
several Macks, having had
their birth in Hagerstown.
The trucks were as polished as the cars, only much
larger! Antique farm tractors
were also on display.
After spending a couple of
hours, the group reassembled
and struck out for Bonnie’s
Diner at The Red Byrd where
they had set up a large table
in a back room for all 22 of us,
no doubt to keep us away from
the real customers!!
We had a very fine dutch
treat meal, and lots of storytelling, and general good conversation. After the meal, and
the conversations, our group
departed for home, splitting off
into several directions. It completed a delightful day, with
ideal, although chilly weather.
Again, we owe great
thanks to Art and to Eric for
planning and organizing this
trip. Well done!! And, to use
a much used and abused
phrase, a good time was had
by all!!!
In case you missed the “fun
run” and would like to visit the
museum on your own, the museum is open Saturdays and
Sundays from 1:00pm to
4:00pm. Weekday hours are
available by appointment by
calling 240-420-1714..
There is no admission
charge, however donations are
gratefully accepted.
