BOCK BEER FEST
BY INA MILLER
The NuLu Bock Fest will take place on
Saturday, March 26th from noon until 8:00
p.m. in the 600 and 700 blocks of East
Market Street. The event will include safe
and fun goat races sponsored by area
businesses, music from the Billy Goat Strut
Revue, as well as original bock beers from
area breweries available only at the NuLu
Bock Fest.
The NuLu Bock Fest event revives an
annual Spring ritual tracing back to the mid
-19th Century to mark the changing of the
season when the dark German lager,
known as bock, was released across the city after a winter of aging. The
holiday, which usually coincides with Lent, was hugely popular in Louisville
during its first brewing boom, but fell out of favor during Prohibition.
Sponsors include Garage Bar, JEB Advertising, MagBooth, and Sonablast
Records, Worthington Law Firm, Harbor House of Louisville, Via Studios,
Carman and the Kentucky Guild of Brewers. Food will be provided by local
vendors and area restaurants.
Goat races are traditionally associated with Bock Day, as “bock” means “goat”
in German. The event will kick off with the ceremonial blessing of the goats at
noon, and the day will include seven races with separate divisions for kids
(baby goats) and adults. The goats will race from Nanny Goat Strut Alley to
Billy Goat Strut Alley on Clay Street. Area businesses are encouraged to
sponsor goats, and all goat welfare and race ethics are being overseen by the
local chapter of the 4H, the Louisville Aggies. Businesses who are interested in
sponsoring a goat may visit this website or call Ina Miller at (502) 468-1516.
Bock beer is a rich, complex, malty, low-hop style of lager. There are many
varieties of bock that can all be different: Maibock, Doppleback, and Eisbock.
Although it is now almost always a lager, bock was originally an ale that was
brewed by German monks in the Fourteenth Century. The monks would often
drink the rich beer during their times of fasting. Bock Fest will welcome the
following Kentucky Guild of Brewers:
Against the Grain
Akasha Brewing Company
Blue Stallion Brewing
Country Boy
Ethereal Brewing Company
Falls City Beer
Goodwood
Gordon Biersch
Third Turn Brewing
West Sixth Brewing Company

REVELRY BOUTIQUE GALLERY
FEATURES PINKY LA RUE
Revelry is excited to welcome Leah Tinari, a whimsical illustrator and artist.
Mo met Leah through Gill & Augusta Holland, who are both big fans of her
work—they have quite a few pieces from her.
“Pinky La Rue” focuses on “the stuff” that has infiltrated her life as she
navigates motherhood in New York City. The series is a tribute to children
and their playfulness as well as a realization of the humor in being a parent.
The content and formal elements in her paintings combine to offer a
personal and occasionally caricature-like narrative, addressing and
encompassing both the awkwardness and complexity of life.
WHO:
Leah Tinari
WHAT: Pinky La Rue
WHERE: Revelry Boutique Gallery, 742 East Market St, Louisville
WHEN: Through March 15th, 6:00-10:00 p.m.
Leah Tinari is best known for capturing spirited scenes of celebratory
friends and family. She works in acrylic, gouache and spray paint on both
paper and canvas.

A TRADITIONAL EVENT
CELEBRATING ITS 10 YEAR
ANNIVERSARY │ MARCH 10TH
The Blessing of the Beer and the Tapping of the Keg has become a favorite
tradition of the Hibernians and Goodwood Brewing Co. Join the Ancient
Order of Hibernians, and their friends at Goodwood Brewing to celebrate the
birthday of the Bourbon Barrel Stout, launched in 2006. A special ceremony
will bless the beers at the brewery in preparation for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Parade.
Everyone shows up around 5:00 p.m. at Goodwood Brewing Taproom at 636 East Main Street. A procession lead by
a bagpiper, Father Fowler and the Hibernians will lead the way into the brewery. After a few words from the Ancient
Order of Hibernians and Goodwood Brew Crew Father Fowler will bless all the batches of Bourbon Barrel Stout that
have been patiently waiting for over three months while the beer aged in Kentucky’s finest Bourbon Barrels.
After the ceremonies at Goodwood Brewing Co. the group will convene at O’Shea’s on Baxter for the Tapping of the
Keg (approximately 6:30 p.m.). The blessed keg will be marched into O’Shea’s; Father Fowler will lead us in prayer
while the staff at O’Shea’s taps the first keg for consumption. Then the fun starts with Blessed Goodwood Bourbon
Barrel Stout. Only available once a year at this time!
Food specials of corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash and other special selections will be served in honor of
the approaching St. Patrick’s parade.
The Highland Reign will rock the house at 7:00 p.m. with progressive Celtic music that will surely get your toes tapping.
We hope to see you there so we'll have the chance to cheers with you. ▪
