Family Tree, to be released on June
19th, 2007 on Tsunami LG/Fontana
North, will feature previously unreleased
tracks from the vaults of the Estate of
Nick Drake. The album, produced by
Drake Estate manager Cally, tells the
story
of
Nick
Drake’s
musical
development in the years prior to
recording his official debut, Five Leaves
Left. Family Tree explores the upbringing
of an artist who – in his tragically short
career – produced three albums which
continue to be treasured by fans.
Recorded in the late 1960’s, the 28
tracks feature lo-fi recordings made on a
reel-to-reel tape recorder.

GRADY, Austin Chronicles’s Best New Band
winner is now being unleashed across Canada
with their sophomore cd “A Cup Of Cold Poison.”
This trio of tall Texans will captivate you with a
sound somewhere between early ZZ Top and an
alien abduction. Equal parts Southern Gospel and
Satanic Ritual. Gordie “Grady” Johnson on lead
vocals and guitar, “Big Ben” Richardson on bass,
and Billy “Thunderball” Maddox beating the drums
loud and proud, kneel at the altar of the one-chord
stomp and make every show a unique offering.
As reviewed in Observer Music Monthly UK:
Christopher Gray, Austin Chronicle writes:
GRADY’S second album of roughneck blues is a
long way from Sunday school; as “One of These
Days You’re Gonna Lie Down Dead” advises,
“Your sweet chariot is a box of pine.” A farmer’s
prayer for rain in “Rolling Thunder” comes in
language better known as a Vietnam bombing run
and fits new drummer Billy “Thunderball”
Maddox’s razor-blade swing. Welcoming
Continental Club peers Chili Cold Blood; “Tyrant of
Texas Funk” Barfield, whom the Austin trio covers;
and Bourbonitis poet laureate Alejandro
Escovedo, who guests on romp “Three Legged
Not Final Artwork
Race”, frontman Gordie “Grady” Johnson
unleashes his guitar like a starving hellhound with
a fresh whiff of raw meat. GRADY’S slash-andburn theology is nothing if not educational. Closer
“On the Wagon” recounts the morbid origins of the
familiar expression: a hangman, his condemned,
and one final swallow of whiskey. Somewhere in
there is a lesson for us all.
The new cd “A Cup of Cold Poison” was recorded
live off the floor at Willie Nelson’s famed
Pedernales recording studio and even features a
spoken word introduction by the Red Headed
Stranger himself.

STATE OF SHOCK Life, Love & Lies
What is it about the West Coast? Could it be the
water that flows from the snow pack on the
North Shore Mountains? Perhaps it’s the fresh
breeze off the pacific or the herbs that grow in
the lush forests surrounding the Lower
Mainland. Whatever it is it’s true to say that the
604 area code has produced some of the most
successful rock acts in recent, or even ancient,
memory. BTO, Loverboy, Trooper, Bryan
Adams, Default, Theory of a Deadman &
Nickelback come to mind without any effort or
research. Well another name is about to be
added to that list, STATE OF SHOCK.
Life, Love & Lies is not the first full length
release for STATE OF SHOCK. Winning the
2004 CFOX Seed’s powered the release of their
debut album ‘Guilty By Association’ in June .
Singles ‘Wish I Never Met You’, ‘If I Could’ and
‘So Many Times’ followed in due course along
with supporting tours and a satisfying
nomination as Favourite New Group at the 2005
Canadian Music Award’s. Not bad for a first

release but something was missing.
Back to the drawing board. Slowly a new
group of songs began to take shape and as
is often the case they were light years
ahead of their first batch. The ‘something’
that had been missing was maturity. You
can hear it in the songwriting, you can feel
it in the room when they perform. This time
they’re ready.

Tomahawk’s third release, Anonymous,
links the outfit with the Native American
culture that bore its name. A thirteen
track album that reverentially explores
and reinterprets the darker, more
recessed ancestral music created by
North America’s indigenous people, the
title reflects the countless individuals who
contributed to these songs but went uncredited throughout history.
Now a three piece, Tomahawk recorded
Anonymous in two parts.

John Stanier (Battles, ex-Helmet)

Celebrating their tenth year, Nora is the
only one of Alternative Press Magazine’s
“Bands You Need To Know” to name
themselves after a character in the
classic Christian Slater vehicle “Pump Up
The Volume.” Lifelong hardcore scene
veterans committed to the most forward
thinking end of the heavy music
spectrum, Nora infuses their material
with dark humor and creative energy. It
could be argued that the greatest thing
Nora have achieved with their new
record, “Save Yourself”, is the simple fact
that they even managed to craft the
damn thing at all. But that would be
missing the point. Because through all of
the misfortune, anguish, heartache, false
starts and agonizing stops that plagued
New Jersey’s ever defiant chaotic heavy
music mainstays as they embarked on the
journey between 2003’s critically lauded
“Dreamers and Deadmen” and this one,
despite innumerable distractions, Nora has
attained their greatest artistic achievement.
This is their “Master Of Puppets”, their
“Reign In Blood”, their “London Calling.”
Nora is reborn.

Hate it or love it, 50 Cent possesses the ability to shift gears from
the glamour train of the mainstream to the grimy rhythmic sewer
system known as “the streets.” His pairing with fellow G-Unit
affiliate DJ Whoo Kid on Bulletproof goes beyond the musical
billboarding that “Fif is back” with a reality check for all MC’s who
have lost their swagger. 50 continues diversifying himself by
delivering songs that appeal to the common listener, ranging from
radio smashes like “Why They Look Like That” to b-side gems like
“I Warned You” and “Grew Up.” Bulletproof further proves that 50
Cent is on the top of his game.

'The Voices' is the debut solo album from
Paul Gigliotti former lead vocalist for
Wave. In 2001 a song hit radio airwaves
that immediately seemed to define that
summer; “California” introduced the world
to Wave – whose gold debut album,
Nothing As It Seems, eventually
spawned three Top 40 hits [California,
Think It Over, Sleepless] and two Top 5
videos [California, Think It Over].
“California” instantly became a top
requested track on radio [SOCAN #1
Award and the #2 most played track in all
formats for 2001]. The hits continued
with Wave's sophomore album, State Of
Mind [2003], delivering the instant pop
radio jewels “That’s How It Feels”, “Moon
Underwater” and the unforgettable CHR
fave “Don’t Say Sara”. Wave hits sung
by The Voices founder Paul Gigliotti
continue to receive regular radio airplay
countrywide. Scanned sales of the first two
Wave albums have thus far accounted for
65,000 units in Canada.

Raheem Jamal Boombox
“Radio” Raheem Jamal is a Roxbury, MA (home of Hip
Hop legend Edo. G) veteran MC who has cut his teeth
most recently as a frontman for two super groups; Project
Move and Electric Company. In Project Move, Raheem
rocked along side Moe Pope (Mission, Crown City
Rockers), Anonymous and Beyonder (7L & Esoteric,
Bladerunners, Vinyl Thug Music). The Electric Company
consisted of all three members of Project Move, Insight
and Dagha. Project Move’s “Love Gone Wrong/Butterfly
Theory” and Electric’s “Life’s A Struggle” became instant
cult favorites in Japan and Europe (specifically France)
and Raheem and the rest gained critical acclaim. He has
toured extensively with both groups supporting many upper
echelon and like sounding artists including KRS-1, Jurassic
5, Talib Kweli, Digable Planets, Little Brother, Slum Village,
Common, Pharoah Monch, CL Smooth, Jeru the Damaja,
Special Ed, Royce Da 5’9, Big Daddy Kane, Edan and
more. Raheem Jamal is now ready to spread his creative
wings and stand out on his own two. Entirely backed by the
lavish production of Hip Hop maverick Raydar Ellis (best
known for his critically acclaimed debut album “Late Pass”
and production for 7L & Esoteric and Dr. Dre proteges
GodBody), and hot off the trail of his stand out “Not The
One” single, Jamal paints beautiful pictures with words,
that dance and flow over the soundscape. Sometimes
positive, sometimes pessimistic but always truthful and
thoughtful, “Boombox” is how rap albums used to be. How
rap albums should be; One MC, one producer, a couple of
their boys. Songs about life, love, struggle and strength...

The prolific James Jackson Toth, working under the nom de tune
Wooden Wand has released some 20 plus albums over a handful of
years. However, Toth considers James and The Quiet only the third
proper Wooden Wand full length. While each release has explored a
psychedelic-folk wonderland, this album is far away one of the most
concisely focused and downright catchy recordings in the WW
oeuvre. Co-arranger and vocalist Jessica Toth may be the record’s
secret weapon. While perhaps best known for her role as lead
vocalist and occasional guitarist in Wooden Wand & the Vanishing
Voice, on James and The Quiet she emerges as the perfect foil to
Toth’s inimitable artistic voice. Together with Ranaldo, Jessica wrote
and fine-tuned most of the albums exquisite harmony vocals and
piano lines. Hoping to transcend genre tags, Toth, with more than a
little help from his friends, has crafted a consistent and creative batch
of songs that rewards repeat listens and continues to showcase his
talent as a songwriter.

CPC Gangbangs rise from ashes of garage punk architects Les
Sexareenos, Daylight Lovers and Spaceshits and create a new drug,
punk, weirdo, hate trip that spews from the Franco-Anglo Petri dish of
Montreal. With already 5 vinyl only EP’s under their belt CPC
Gangbangs have solidified their status in the subterranean abyss that
is the new punk underground railroad. Although their sound is
celebratory and consuming it is often evil as well and full of the
promise of self destruction boosted by copious amounts of cocaine,
LSD and Canadian Maple Whiskey. This sound is part Warsaw, part
th
13 Floor Elevators, part Flamin’ Groovies, part Turkish psychedelic
rock and all while their feet are deeply rooted in the unrestrained
attack of primal punk deconstruction. Guitars are broken, amps are
on fire, drums avalanche off the stage and someone gets hurt. It’s no
wonder that Vice, Horizontal Action, Victim Of Time and other fine
institutions that promote reckless, irresponsible action hail the CPC
Gangbangs as the best value for your money when it comes to wildly
entertaining, subversive rock n roll. Never has the sound of
something falling apart sounded so perfect.

My Sister Ocean consists of 2 schooled
musicians (Holden Daniels and Eugenio
Pacileo) who have been the rhythm section in
several bands since they first jammed in
January 1996. In the spirit of other duo
bands, they have a simple, pared-down
sound that communicates directly to the
listener, and without the status-quo electric
guitars getting in the way. The band is
unafraid to delve into softer, more delicate
material (like on the Kravitz-esque track "Let's
Drink To Us), but they mostly deliver a very
original variety of heavy, hard-hitting, melodic
rock.
The band has already shared the stage with
many of Canada's best acts (Edwin, Bif
Naked, Default), and their touring plans in the
near future involve coast to coast Canadian
dates, and stops in Europe and Australia. In
fact, the band plans on touring non-stop in
support of the songs until they take a break to
record the next album in 2008.

promotional tour, a winning spot in the Canadian Radiostar Songwriting Competition
at Canadian Music Week 2007, and even an endorsement from one of the world’s
best bass amp companies (Gallien-Krueger), it’s easy to see that My Sister Ocean
has both the musical abilities and business sense to become one of Canada’s
breakout bands of 2007
