The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Mission Statement
The mission of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce is to improve the economy of Bastrop and thereby,
the quality of life for all its citizens through economic, community, and leadership development.
Entrepreneur Workshop
Do you want to help your community become
entrepreneur ready? What does that mean in
today's economy, and what does it mean to a community like Bastrop?
These questions and more will be answered at
this "Kickoff" workshop on Wednesday, April 1
from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. We want your involvement and input. This session provides guidelines
and criteria to develop local systems that support
entrepreneurs as a means of invigorating the local
economy. If you are an entrepreneur and you want
to mentor other businesses to help Bastrop grow
and prosper, then you need to attend this FREE
workshop!
n Topics to be covered in the session include:
n The Power of Entrepreneurs
n Supporting Entrepreneur Venture
Development
n The Community Certification Process
n A Community Assessment Matrix
n Creating a Strong Entrepreneur Support System
n Youth Entrepreneurship Programs and Resources
n Action Plans for Success and Sustainability
Expect this to be an action-packed day full of sharing, discussion, experiential learning and practical
applications. At the end of the day you will leave
with plans and tools to rally people in this community around critical issues, with specific strategies
for program implementation, and with information
on where to access resources. Come prepared to get
fully involved in this "high energy" workshop as a
significant amount of material will be reviewed in a
relatively short period of time. The agenda allows for
Q&A, for discussion, and for drafting action plans to
get things "kick started" - even before you leave for
home. We've made it easy to register so do it now...
Call 512-332-0068. The workshop will be held in the
Heritage Hall, at 1020 Main Street in Bastrop.
We're hoping you join us for this interesting, informative and thought-provoking workshop. Bring your
ideas and be ready to share them!
Thanks for all you do for this community and we
look forward to seeing you at the workshop.
Sincerely,
Nancy Wood

Michael Oldham and his wife
Pam purchased Barnard Tire
and Wheel in November 2010.
Mike and Pam moved to this area
from Shamrock, Texas where he
farmed and ranched for the past
35 years and Pam is an RN
working in the ER at Smithville
Hospital, when she’s not in the
Tire store. They have a long
history of community support
in Shamrock and plan to continue that here in Bastrop, looking forward to growing with the
Bastrop area.
Offering a wide variety of services, a full line of name brand
tires including commercial and
farm, they also have a shop that
can handle every aspect of car
repair except engine overhaul.
Michael and Pam kept the same
great employees – Scott Neal
heading up the repair shop is
headed by Scott Neal, a lifelong resident of the area with
10 years experience and the latest in technology to do the job
right; in the tire department are
Russell Johnson as head tire
tech, his son Brian Johnson,
Eddie Parker, Michael Chavez
and Eric Barnard. Along with the
employees, you can count on the
Oldhams to keep the same traditions of good fast service, excellent customer service and low
prices. The only things they’re
changing are some recent painting and some new equipment.
So next time you need tire,
wheel or engine service or repair
work, give Barnard Tire and
Wheel a call at 512- 321-4506

The Bastrop Chamber of
Commerce is proud to welcome new member, The Brent
Thurman Foundation. For the
last three years, the foundation
has hosted the Brent Thurman
Memorial PBR Bullriding at the
Bastrop Homecoming Arena.
This coming fourth year prom-
ises to be better than ever.
The Brent Thurman Memorial
Bullriding (BTMB) event was
started thirteen years ago in
memory of a unique young man
who tragically lost his life at
the National Finals Rodeo in
Las Vegas, Nevada, in December
of 1994. Out of this loss has
grown a foundation that carries
on “Brent’s Dream” of reaching
out to those who are physically
and mentally challenged. The
Jr. Bullriding Competition will
be held on the evening of Friday,
June 10th. The Exceptional
Rodeo will be at 6:00 p.m. on
Saturday, June 11th, followed
by the PBR Event at 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds go to support Texas
Special Olympics and Marbridge
Ranch, organizations that Brent
loved and supported during his
lifetime. For more information
see www.brentthurman.com or
call 512- 891-9991.
