It is an opportunity to hear from your child’s classroom teacher about the curriculum and grade level expectations. We
hope you are able to join us. Our specialist team will be on the east playground to help supervise school age children
during the presentations. We do ask that infants and toddlers stay with their parents. Thank you for your understanding.
Thank you to our Outstanding PTA –
We want to extend our appreciation to the PTA for their support of our classrooms. Through PTA’s generosity all
teachers are being gifted with funds to support their classes and teams. Also our 5th and 6th grade classrooms were
equipped with document cameras and 4 of the classrooms received large screen TVs. We hope that all parents/
guardians will consider attending Monday’s PTA meeting 6:30pm in the school cafeteria to learn more about how this
group impacts our school and the students.
Daily Attendance is important to student success. Teachers are sharing many new skills and strategies everyday with
your child. When a child misses school it is lost instruction. I ask that you do everything you can to have your child at
school everyday, all day and on time. First thing in the morning is a critical time for students to connect and ready
themselves for learning. When they arrive late it interrupts the flow of the classroom. I realize that at times it is unavoidable; however, I do ask that you make school a priority for your child and know that they are beginning to establish
good life long patterns that will set them up for long term success.
Absence – If your child is going to be absent please call the Health Office. If we do not hear from you by 9:30am, the
health aide will attempt to contact you.

HEALTHY HABITS
" tudents are welcome to bring a snack to
S
school daily. The intent of the snack break
is to refuel the body and mind for optimum
learning. Snacks with high sugar content
do not provide the body with the sustainable energy needed to learn; whereas,
snacks in high nutritional value (protein,
nutrients, minerals, fiber) will sustain the
body and mind longer.
Discouraged Items: cookies, chips, candy,
doughnuts, sugar drinks
Encouraged Items: fruits, veggies/dip,
hummus, crackers, cheese, GoGurt, applesauce, trail mix, craisins, dried fruit,
pretzels, granola bars, graham crackers,
fruit cups, low sugar cereal, water"
We really want our kids to grow into
healthy adults; adults who make smart
choices concerning the health of their bodies. Each month the Bird's Word will be
adding this "Healthy Habits" section to
provide quick and easy ideas for healthy
snacks and lunches, as well as tips about
fitness, food choices and general health.
Excellent Attendance
Being in school every day means your
child won’t miss out on learning. Try to
schedule appointments and family trips
outside of school hors. If he asks to stay
home “just because,” remind him of
what he’ll miss, such as his reading
group or art class. Explaining that he
can be absent only if he’s sick or if
there’s a family emergency.
