Animal Friends Humane Society’s event of the year,
the Bark ‘n’ Purr Ball, carried on in it’s tradition of fun-filled
raffles, games, and spectacular auction items. The event resembles a much anticipated holiday. Shared love of animals
and dedication draws supporters of the shelter together, year
after year, much like a family reunion. On the eve of March
15th, Receptions Banquet in Fairfield was bustling wallto-wall with a sold-out audience turning the event into yet
another huge success!
This year the fundraiser made it possible for patrons
to see how their donations benefit the animals. Not
only would winning bidders take home a great prize or
basket; they would leave with the fulfillment of knowing
how they made a difference. The shelter operates entirely
on donations. Hence, the outpouring of gratitude from
Animal Friends Humane Society for all those who attended and the support that comes from the community.

This little cutie was adopted by Deb & Pat
McMahon from Cincinnati.
3/26 Dee was adopted today! She now has a sister,
Harley, to play with. September 27, 2013 was the start
of a new life for Dee. She came to us and we were able to
get her healthy and back on her feet. Today is yet another
milestone for our sweet Dee. We wish you all the best!

Hi Meg,
I didn’t get the chance to say hello at the Birthday Paw-ty last
Saturday. Probably because you were handling so many adoptions! :)
I really enjoyed working the cat adoption area. I think we had
21 or 22 adoptions. It was such a happy day!
Also, I wanted to thank you for your support of our adoption
of “Batman” back in May. He was one sick kitten...He went down
to 1lb and I wasn’t sure he was going to make it! :( But, finally he
started to rally! It took 6 more weeks to get up to 3lbs but he is now
at 9lbs at 5mos old. With his massive tail, muzzle and hindquarters.....we anticipate he will be a big boy when he grows up.
I attached an updated picture....he is truly handsome. We renamed him Meilo (pronounced Me Lo).
Just thought you might like some closure, as you see so many
adoptions and probably never get to know how they are doing.

The guest of honor was Sadie, a 4 year
old Lab mix, an adoptable dog from Animal
Friends who paraded around all evening, sideby-side with volunteer, Meg Kleman. She was
so gentle as she sweetly drew attention to her
need for a home. One guest expressed her
fascination with how well behaved Sadie was,
amid so many people. She asked how it was
possible that this wonderful dog had not been
adopted. She genuinely had no idea that black
dogs are overlooked in shelters. So, in her
own dear way, Sadie helped spread awareness
of Black Dog Syndrome.
We were delighted to be joined by representatives from PAWS (Progressive Animal
Welfare Society). Seated center at their
table was Joseph’s “momma”. This requires
no explanation if you are among the many
thousands of Facebook Joseph followers
who faithfully read “his” letters, as penned by
momma. Joseph is a German Shepherd that
gained global attention after having been tied
to a tree for a year, rescued in a severe state of
neglect. PAWS (Middletown) provided his
initial sheltering. Around the table, all were in
agreement that animal rescue and welfare is a
shared mission. Everyone is in this together.
They appreciate the enormous challenges
AFHS must deal with as Butler County’s
only open-admission shelter. Also present
were advocates from OVCA (Ohio Voters
For Companion Animals) who graciously
lend their support to AFHS. Auction services
were kindly donated by “Auctions by Maggie”.

Saving the best for last, Sadie
got her forever home the day after
the Ball! She was seen online and her
new family drove from Tennessee to
adopt her from the shelter.
The fundraisers have outdone
